• Adrienne had been delighted for the reprieve when she had received a letter from Alec, inviting her over for a few drinks. With her mother monitoring her drinking now a-days, something harder than a blusher of strawberry wine was as tempting as anything she had ever seen. Of course, she could not tell her parents where she was going and had retired to her room early with a 'headache', only to sneak out the window moments later, walk to the edges of the property, and apparate.
  
  She appeared at the end of Alec's driveway under a torrential downpour of rain. Therefore, she walked briskly, still getting rather wet even as she did so. She made it to the front door and knocked firmly, sputtering like a wet kitten as she pushed her wet hair out of her face. When the maid opened the door to let her in, she smiled thankfully, taking off her hooded cloak to reveal the burgundy dress beneath, a personal favorite with a tailored waist and plunging neckline to show off every curve of the figure she was so proud of.
  
  She was directed to the parlor, and she moved with a gate like water, born and bred into her through years of careful marriages. She pushed her hair out of her face, looking down to adjust the sleeves of her dress as she walked in through the open doorway. "Alec, you had better have something stronger than wine or I'll tie you down and-" she looked up to see both men in the parlor, one expected and the other not.
  
  Her eyes widened slightly upon seeing Lucian Allaird poised in a chair next to Alec, but she showed her surprise for only a moment before speaking again, her playful flamboyance back. "This is like a scene out of a nightmare, except you were both naked and chasing me down a long hallway." She teased before curtsying to Lucian. "Bonjour, Mr. Allaird."
  
  She then made her way across the room with a visible sense that she had been there more than once, and poured herself a tumbler of brandy. She took a heavy sip and all but purred in delight, closing her eyes and savoring it before she sauntered across the room. She took her seat in the arm chair next to Alec and smiled over at him, sipping her drink.
