    Alcohol Is Free

Her siblings had apparently decided to steal a broomstick and try and go flying with it around the estate, which Lysa had thought to be very dangerous as not even four year old Cliona would take part in the whole stunt. She had tried to make them see reason and it didn’t work, so Lysa decided to do what was the most sensible thing.

    Tell Papa.

She didn’t care if that would make her a tell-tale. After her mother’s accident they didn’t need anyone else falling off a high distance to their death.

She found him in one of their sitting rooms, his head resting on the table and him snoring. Her pretty nose wrinkled at the rather penetrating smell of alcohol and she gracefully approaching her seemingly sleeping father.

“Papa,” she said softly and gently poked his shoulder. Nothing. More persistently, she urged: “Papa!”

Tiger could not help himself - after loosing Birgit then he had a hard time dealing with anything - and as such he had done like his brothers often did. After locking up his weapons, he had hit the bottle. This was all he could focus on right now - even though he had five children who needed him. While he had someone to look after them, then he did not wanted to be absent in their life. But right now - he could not handle as much as usual.

As such, it was not uncommon that he was napping while sitting up, leaning over a table. As he did the moment Ilysa poked him on the shoulder. Not responding to the first, he heard her voice the second time and looked up slowly. "mmm, yes?" he asked, looking at her but having a hard time to focus.

Ilysa hated to see her father in such a state. She had also wept for her mother’s death, she had also felt helpless and hopeless, but in the end of the day she had put on a strong face and carried on, like her mother would have wanted her to do. Papa, on the other hand, had embraced the bottle as his sole friend in his sadness, ignoring his five children that needed him.

“Papa, you’re drunk again,” Lysa observed and even made a face to make her point clear. She had not forgotten the actual reason she had seeked her father, but truly, how much help could he really be in such a state? Lysa suspected that he’d probably tumble down and break a leg while trying to stop her siblings from being idiots.

Ilysa was so much like Birdie, maybe not in look - and maybe in look - but definitely in personality. There was not a doubt that she was Birdie's daughter, and Tiger could not help but smile slightly at the similarity. "I am." he admitted and looked at her.

"I miss her, Ilysa. It is hard being without her, especially when I have guilt as well." he continued. He felt guilt - a lot. Why had he not told her the truth about their twins?

Ilysa missed her mother very much herself, but she wouldn’t let that affect her as much as it did Papa! He clearly seemed too absorbed in his own grief and didn’t see that there were other people who needed him.

“That is still no reason to drink so much whiskey!” Lysa commented, her brows furrowing a bit. “You smell like you came from some shady pub!”

He could not help but chuckle slightly. "You have been listening to your mother too much." he said with a small smile. It would be typical Birgit to tell him not to drink too much because of the children.

"What did you want Ilysa?" he asked and looked at her, slowly focusing more and more.

The mention of her mother hurt her, but Lysa tried to ignore it, as there were more important matters at hand than her grief.

“Kennard, Lir and Cliona decided to steal a broomstick and fly around the estate!” she said. “They threatened to hide all my books if I told you, but I just couldn’t let them break their heads!”

"They will not hide your books. You know that you have access to the family library." he said with a small smile. "And the broomsticks are locked in - just as my weapons. I have it under control Lysa." he added gently. He had thought as far before he had begun drinking enough to leave him drunk. Locking up broomsticks and weapons so no one got hurt.

“I hope you are right, Papa,” Lysa commented. “But you know them, they can find a solution to any of their problems.”

Lysa rather admired them for those qualities, when they did not use them to cause harm. But this was not some puzzle they had to solve. If they got their hands on a broomstick they could easily get hurt.

“I wish you could have the same control over that,” Lysa added then, turning her eyes to the half empty bottle. She usually wasn’t so bold towards her father, but someone had to tell him about it!

"Trust me, my dear. I will know if they get their hands on a broomstick." he said and gently caressed her cheek. When she made a comment about the alcohol he just sighed. "You are right, but without your mother here, then I find it hard to figure out what to do. She was my love, and without her to help me day after day, it feels hopeless. How can I concentrate on the dragons and not get hurt, when I am worried about you all. So it is easier to drink, then I cannot go out and work." he said.

“We have a governess, you should worry about us!” Lysa told her father. Though, a single governess probably wouldn’t be able to deal with them all. Not when Kennard and Lir always got in some trouble and Cliona was almost always involved as well.

“As for your work, you have a responsibility,” she said. “You are a MacFusty, not the town’s drunk fool! You have a duty to the community!”

What if Papa’s dragon managed to escape and started burning muggle villages to the ground? Papa was going to be the family’s head one day, he couldn’t wallow in despair for so long!

Tiger was not very worried about the dragons, his brothers surely had it under control and they could understand why he was not exactly fit for work right now. "Okay Lysa, you are right. You remind me about your mother." he said with a smile.

He took the bottle and held it down to her. "Here. Pour it all out." he said softly. He was happy that she was there.

“What, on the floor?” Lysa exclaimed. The whiskey had clearly gotten to her father’s head if he could even consider such a thing. The whole room would surely smell like whiskey for at least a week and it was just a waste to pour away so much good whiskey. Lysa was not planning on drinking it, but surely the cook could use it for something.

“I will call for one of the maids to take it. And you should take a bath.”

"No - I meant to pour it out on the ground when you were outside." he said with a small laugh. "I will my dear. Soon." he said - he needed a bath it was probably the truth, but he was not sure if he could get to the bath by himself - however he did not wanted to put that kind of pressure of Ilysa. He would get there eventually.

“Not soon, now,” Lysa said. Her voice wasn’t pushy or strict, but it did show that she’d be disappointed if he didn’t get a bath by dinner. It’d be good for her siblings to see her father somber for once.

She took the bottle of whiskey which was thankfully half empty already. “I will take this to the kitchen. And you should bath now Papa!”

With that, she stood on her toes to give him a small kiss on the cheek - even if he smelled terribly - and walked out of the room to head to the kitchens.
