Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission

She awoke to a fleeting kiss on her lips. Connie returned the kiss with as much passion as she could muster at such an awkward angle. Her hands cupped his cheeks gently and whimpered softly against his mouth. The light from the flames flickered violently against their skin; illuminating them for a moment before allowing the room to fade into darkness.

The kiss became the gentle one Connie was craving earlier. Their lips moved with no real urgency, time slowed around them. She moved her hands down to his collar and tugged, trying to get him to move into a more comfortable position.

Like a princess in a fairy tale, Connie woke to his kiss. The soft, sweet kiss was almost painful; for all that Cai enjoyed the feeling of his lips lingering against hers, he desperately wanted more at the same time. He was all too willing to be pulled on top of Connie, though he knew they could not stay long for fear of getting caught.

Trying not to rest too much of his weight on Connie, Cai reached up to run his fingers through her beautiful locks. "Connie," he breathed softly, looking into those dark, intoxicating eyes. He wanted to just kiss her and keep kissing her -- to do more than kiss her, for all that he could not allow himself to take advantage of her -- but he had a feeling they should at least try to make sure they were both happy with this.

Cailean certainly hoped that Connie was happy with this, because he certainly was. He adored the feeling of having her pinned, loved the taste of her lips, and was addicted to her kisses. The only way Cai was going to stop this was if Connie stopped it.

Which is why they needed to at least try to talk. "Are you ... happy? With this?" Her lips were just inches away and begging to be kissed, but Cai restrained himself.

Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission

The warmth generated from the fire did not compare to the warmth created by the two bodies lying so close together. Just as it was in the snow, Cai stopped their actions to make sure she was okay. Connie wondered if she had been with anyone else if they would've cared as much as he appeared to care, or if they would have taken advantage of the situation. 'Cai is not like that.' she decided, 'He would never use me like those boys used the Slytherin girls.'

"Yes Cai," she breathed, "I'm okay with this if you are." It wasn't a lie. Connie's only insecurity about this situation was the likelyhood that they had already been seen, or would be seen. Her streak of exhibitionism most likely already made such fears true, but a girl could hope right? "Are you -- are you okay with this?"

More than once that night she gave him the chance to leave her -- the chance to get up, walk away, and leave Connie to her devices. More than once Cailean refused her offers and continued to stand by her side. If push came to shove and they have been caught, Connie hoped he would still stay with her, at least as friends. She nested her face into the crook of his neck, and placed a number of kisses up and down the side of it. The idea of Cai rejecting her right now suddenly scared her, Connie wanted to stay with him in this moment for as long as she could.

Cai meant to answer, he really did. He even opened his mouth to speak. But when Connie started kissing his neck he completely lost his tongue and forgot how to talk.

This was important though, even more important than kissing Connie was. Pulling back, Cailean pressed his fingers to her lips to try to keep her from distracting him. Not that it was going to be easy to concentrate on anything but her laying there beneath him, looking oh so willing --

"I don't want to take advantage of you," he said earnestly. It was just as important for him to hear himself saying the words as it was for her to understand them. Saying it made it real. "If you ever want me to stop ... whatever I'm doing, wherever we are ... just say so, and I'll stop." He tried to watch for some sign of understanding, but was unable to resist further; his fingers slid away from her lips to tangle themselves in her hair, and Cai leaned in to nip at her plump lower lip before kissing her again.

Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission

As much as she'd like to ignore the fact, Connie had an extremely hard time focusing as Cai said something that appeared to be important. She tuned into what he was saying towards the end about stopping if she wanted to. Stop? Was that even an option right now? Did she even want to attempt to pull herself away from him? The thoughts of moving away from him, only made her want to move closer. She didn't want to lose the warmth that had developed around her.

Rather than respond to his statement verbally, she nodded and returned to the side of his neck. She felt vulnerable, an emotion that had become a rarity for her in recent years. The last time Connie felt this vulnerable was when she fell off her broom during a quidditch game and fell three hundred feet to the ground. And even then it was a different type of vulnerability. Then she was possibly about to die, now she was laying her heart on the line and it would most likely get wounded in the end.

Connie's nod sent relief flooding through Cai. So long as she understood that he would stop any time that she wanted him to, then Cai felt more secure that he would not accidentally push her too far.

Unfortunately, Connie was frustratingly intent on kissing his neck, which not only made it very hard to think of anything else but also meant that he had to find something other than her oh-so-tempting lips to kiss. Cai ran his fingers through Connie's long locks, enjoying the sensation of her lips on his neck, and then set about kissing her throat gently.

It was tempting to be less than gentle with the soft flesh of her neck, but Cai held himself back. If he were to be too rough, to leave marks on her -- well, that would certainly ruin Connie's reputation. He was so tempted to do more, to let his kisses travel lower --

A sudden crash made Cai jump, jerking away from Connie. It was just a rather ill-tempered looking cat, but Cai suddenly felt incredibly guilty. Dinner would not keep the common room empty much longer, and here he was with Connie in a position that would surely compromise her reputation should they get caught. "Oh, Connie, I'm so sorry," he whispered, looking around as though expecting someone to walk in on them that very moment. "I -- I'll find us someplace nice and private, if -- if you want to do this again."

Despite her willingness tonight, Cai was terrified that she would never let him kiss her again.

Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission

She bit down on his lower neck lightly as Cailean's lips traveled down her own. She wanted this, if Cai were to suggest things go further, Connie wasn't sure she'd be able to say 'no'. That one little word seemed to be the key to everything. The decision of saying 'no' was not one that she wanted to have to make. But if it came down to it, Connie knew she'd be singing it if that were the only way out.

The crash startled her more than it startled him most likely. She swept her hair into a tight knitted bun and pinned it with pins that had been so carelessly left behind by a young student. She straightened her dress and quickly stood up off the couch, nearly losing her balance. Her cat, Arthur, ran between her legs and mewed softly.

"Oh Arthur! Was that you who made all that noise? What a bad kitty you are scaring me like that." She smiled and picked him up. "You know better than to crash into things like that." Connie's cat was a pale grey and white three year old cat. When she had first attended Hogwarts she had her family's elderly cat, named Ginny, but Ginny died late in Connie's third year and so her parents bought and sent her a new kitten.

She froze at the sound of Cai's voice. At first she thought he was apologizing for ever kissing her, but then he went on and talked about finding them their own spot and Connie smiled, much to her kitten's dismay. He hissed in her arms, his tail whipping back and forth violently, Connie petted him. "That sounds lovely." She said happily, "I'll go whereever you ask me to."

Watching the cat suspiciously, Cailean rubbed the place where Connie had marked him. He'd be able to cover it easily, but he wanted to give Connie the same pleasure. The only thing stopping him was that if he allowed himself to travel below the neckline of her dress then he was fairly certain he would not stop at her collarbone. No, that would be far too close to the admittedly tempting mounds of her bosom, and from there it would be too easy for him to try to get her out of her dress completely.

Especially when Connie told him that she'd go wherever he asked. Pulling at his collar awkwardly, Cai reached over to clasp Connie's hand gently. "I'll ... I'll let you know as soon as I find us a place, okay?"

He was feeling incredibly nervous again. Connie was perfect in so many ways ... her eagerness, the way she fit against him, her hair, her eyes, those lips ... the delicacy that was such an issue for him in quidditch was incredibly attractive when she was pressed up against him. Everything about him made him feel both protective and a little wicked.

Unable to resist, Cai reached up with his free hand to rub his thumb across Connie's swollen lower lip. "Are you still tired?" he asked gently, determined not to kiss her again. Not just yet, anyway ... he'd find them someplace where no one would see, someplace that Connie's reputation would be safe.

Maybe I'm just a girl on a mission

Arthur pawed at Cai's hand that lingered on her lips. The cat apparently did not like his presence near Connie, the growling could further identify that belief. She didn't understand it. Before this instance, her kitten hardly lingered outside her bedroom for more than five minutes in favor of her bed. Now, he wanted to be held possessively by the over tired girl. Arthur, despite Connie's desperate attempts at thinning him out, was a heavy cat.

She merely nodded at Cai when he mentioned trying to find them a secluded place. Connie knew such privacy was hard to come by in such trying times, where gossip was like a wildfire and nothing could stay "mum" for more than an hour. "I am dreadfully tired, but I never want this evening to end." She stated quietly and moved back towards the fireplace. The comfort of the sofas and undying heat lulled her closer until she was able to sit on the couch. "Are you tired at all?" Connie asked innocently petting Arthur's light grey fur.

In all truths, she hoped Cai was getting tired. Even though it was fairly early to be considering sleeping for the night, she didn't like the idea of him staying in the common room alone as she moved up the stairs into her dormitory. Half of her wanted to ask Cailean to come up with her, to cuddle with her until sleep consumed her. The other half wanted as much distance between the pair as possible. In the end, the latter won that war. If Cai could even make it up the stairs, which became an impassable staircase in the presence of a male, the scandal alone made her fret with worry. "Please forgive me for allowing this to happen tonight -- I - I should have stopped it before we progressed so far." She guiltily confessed.

The cat didn't like him. Cai was sure that it was not just a figment of his imagination; it not only batted at him of simply touching Connie, but he was fairly certain that it was glaring at him. He kept a suspicious eye on the beastie, but when Connie got up without giving him a chance to tell her that he was in fact not tired his attention was fully on the lovely little ex-seeker again.

"Oh, Connie," Cailean breathed, despair coloring his features. "I'm so sorry ... I wish ... Why didn't you tell me to stop if you didn't want me to --" he could not even finish the statement. He felt horribly guilty, as though he had done far worse than kiss his beautiful friend. He had taken advantage of her just as surely as if he'd seduced her into bed. "I'll -- I'll go now, and I'll do my best to make sure you never have to see me again."

Tears swelled up in her eyes. Never see him again? Did a sudden streak of insanity fly through Cailean? If Connie were to never see him again, she'd die for sure. He was her friend first, if she couldn't have Cai in some sort of relationship, She was at least hoping for a friendship of some sort. Sure it'd be awkward at first, when the memories were still fresh, but eventually the memories would fade away to nothing.

Connie didn't know what to say to fix what she broke. Cailean looked so torn, she wanted to run up to him and wrap her arms around him, but she could hear the anxious voices outside the common room. There was not enough time to say what she wanted to say to him. Connie wanted to tell him he was wrong. He was oh so wrong. She wanted to tell him this night was filled with more magic than she has experienced in her life time. Connie wanted him to know how much she wanted him.

"Please -- Please don't leave me." She barely whispered. It was the only thing she could think of to say. Small first year children would soon be filling the room, there was no time for her to say much else.

Confused, Cailean reached out towards Connie, brushing his rough fingers against her soft cheek briefly. She'd just said that she was sorry for all of it, and yet she didn't want him to leave her? He certainly didn't want to have taken advantage of Connie, but he certainly felt like he had. Those tears -- a girl who had just enjoyed being kissed shouldn't be crying.

"I'll stay. I just don't want you to be sorry for anything." He'd just have to keep his hands -- and his lips -- to himself in the future. Connie deserved better than rolling around on the ground anyway, and their friendship was worth more to him than the pleasure that he got from kissing her.

There was no more time for talking now; the first of the younger students had entered the portrait hole and spilled into the common room. Their privacy was gone. "You should get up to bed," he said softly. He was just glad that he hadn't taken something as important as her first kiss from her.

Constance didn't trust her voice. If she spoke she was sure her voice would crack and then he'd perceive her as weak, Connie was anything but weak. Her eyes found his and she was saddened by the amount of pain displayed in them. She didn't want him to hurt, it wasn't necessary for him to.

Then his hand caressed her cheek. The simple motion, one a mother would give to her child, made her feel worse. She didn't regret it. Connie would change nothing about this night and yet Cailean felt as if she wished none of it happened. This wasn't true. The only thing she wished hadn't happened was the amount of exposure they put themselves to. Her lips grazed his hand and then she moved away from him towards the stairs.

"Cailean, there is nothing about this night I regret." She said loud enough for him to hear but no one else, "Not even giving you my first kiss."

Her first kiss? That had been her first kiss? Cai's stomach knotted with guilt. He had stolen Connie's first kiss, laying on top of her in the snow. Her first kiss should have been special, and he'd taken it from her.

Cailean didn't even really register that she'd said she didn't regret any of it. He suddenly wanted to take it all back, to let her have the first kiss she had always dreamed of. Certainly what had actually happened was nothing like what Connie had thought her first kiss would be like; her fantasies were undoubtedly perfectly romantic.

Giving Connie a half-hearted smile, Cai watched her head towards her dorm. He'd taken advantage of Connie and stolen something that could never be replaced. His only solace was that he'd stopped with kisses.
