Dreams of Prima Ballerina

Magda was carefully bending her knees into a plié before she extended her right foot and almost glided forward, keeping her back straight as she knew she should, before she stood in the new spot of her feet and looked at her governess. She looked after Flora, her best friend, but she kept her posture straight and she had to admit that the movements of the tutu and her soft pink clothes were absolutely devine.

She stretched her leg and pointed automatically with her toe, keeping a completely straight line from her hip to her toe. It was just natural, simple as that, so why should she change it. She found a bench and quickly began to use it as a barre and tried to lift her pointed leg enough to still keep it stretched but also rest on the bench.

Flora, who was dressed as a ‘flower Princess’ had just arrived to see her cousin Magda dance on a bench. It was true that many of the other people were behaving in a rather strange way, but that was no excuse for her cousin to dance publicly!

“Cousin Magda!” Flora said to her cousin quietly as she approached the bench. “What are you doing?”

Magda looked with happiness around when someone called her name, of course she was already turning into a Prima Ballerina, and when she recognized a flowery version of Flora she quickly jumped down and took a twirling step towards Flora. "Hello Flora - I am being a prima ballerina. What else?" she said and looked wonderingly at her cousin.

She could not see what she had done wrong and she stretched her foot and pointed with it, if nothing else to get used to standing on her toes and keep the posture straight. She allowed a hand to slide through her hair, before she quickly looked at Flora again

Flora had never went to a ballet. She knew that dancing was not an acceptable occupation for a young lady, though. Magda had only dressed up as one, but she seemed to want to behave as one as well.

As a good cousin, it would only be right of her to tell her to stop and be normal. But Flora was starting to feel strange. She felt more… royal. And right now, Magda dancing didn’t seem that bad. On the other hand…

“You haven’t curtsied to me yet!” Flora complained rather haughtily. “You must always curtsy to a princess!”

Magdalena smiled at her cousin as Flora told her that she should curtsey to her. Magda never curtseyed to Flora, unless it was part of their game, and even then she never did, because Magda was not going to act like her cousin was better than her. Flora was her best friend and they would never have to get down to such low levels with one another. Magda had even confided to Flora when she had written that Lestrange boy, her mother kept saying she would marry when she got older.

"You are a flower, Flora. Not a princess. I could dance a dance for you." she offered instead and looked at her cousin before she did an attempt of making a pirouette. She was happy with the way her hair and tutu skirt flowed around her in the pirouette, she was sure that she looked elegant and graceful as no other.

“I am not an ordinary flower!” Flora protested and set her foot down. Didn’t the small crown in her head make that obvious enough? Ordinary flowers did not wear crowns! “I am the flower Princess!”

Princesses were known for their kind and compassionate nature, though and Flora did not want to be an exception to that rule. So when the ballerina offered a dance, she nodded in agreement. “You may dance for me, dancer! And you could show me a few steps as well, if you’d like. And then I’ll give you a flower in return.”

"Flower princess, what ballet is that from?" she asked with a wondering look. There would of course be a ballet with a flower princess or a queen, it was as simple as the fact that she was a prima ballerina. She just looked at Flora, her cousin was among the most wonderful people in the world.

"Well, plié is one of the easiest step. You just stand straight, with you feets pointing outwards and then you bend the knees." she said and showed it with a smile to her cousin.

“None!” Flora exclaimed, rather annoyed that the dancer thought that she was a fake princess. She was clearly not very bright, as surely anyone else would have recognized her as Flora the Flower Princess by now.

“And you’re dance - your ballet - does not seem fun at all! Who would want to bend their knees and point at things with their feet? That’s just silly!” Flora commented. “Nobody dances ballet in ballrooms.”

"It is fun, once you learn how to dance it properly. It is hard work as well, and if you work hard for it, then you can become a prima ballerina, like me." she said with a smile and quickly made a small pirouette.

"Ballroom dance, they are simple, but ballet, especially when you become a prima, then everybodies eyes will be on you when you dance. You will be like a swan, beautiful, graceful." she added after the pirouette.

“I don’t need to be a prima ballerina!” Princess Flora said rather haughtily. Being a dancer was a silly job, the barely got paid that much and it took too much effort to be one as well. She’d rather sit on her throne and be a princess.

“I have plenty of eyes on me too.” Flora continued. “The people from the Flower Country come to me and seek my advice. That’s far better than being a ballerina - I actually help others.”

Besides, her clothes were nicer than the girl’s. She even had a tiara!

"Well, then you could become a prima ballerina princess. I am sure the people would love to know that their princess is able to do something to hard." she said and offered to let her actually think she was a princess. Besides, Flora did look like a princess with a tiara and everything. But she just hoped that Flora would accept that she was a prima ballerina then.

“I don’t want to be a Prima Ballerina Princess!” Princess Flora protested. She was the Flower Princess, there was no reason for her to change her type of Princess. Besides, she didn’t like the Ballerina very much. If she became her Princess then she’d likely be surrounded by more annoying ballerina girls.

“Ballet is silly and you are silly and if you will excuse me, I’d like to return back to my flowers!” With that, she rather haughtily turned around and headed to a bunch of bushes of roses nearby.
