It Was Like Dying But I Didn't Die

    December 2 1883,
    Cousin Edward,

I apologize that I did not write to you earlier, but I've been busy! Our DADA professor, had one of the greatest ideas a professor could ever have (I am not trying to be sarcastic, I truly mean it!), so we had this competition where we had to duel foul beasts that were actually our classmates who were too stupid to take the class, 'dark wizards' that were our other professors and our classmates!

I was paired with a Miss Angie Sinnet, who was a quite nice partner and we managed to stun the Herbology Professor. Professor Prince, who I am pretty sure that you know because he's old enough to have had you as his student.

After we stunned him, we had to duel my sister and some Hufflepuff and that's when we lost! I am still rather disappointed, but I at least managed to win some points, so I did not make a complete fool of myself.

But enough about me, tell me your news! Did you sign up for dueling?

    Yours truly,

    Ellory Pendergast

    Dear Ellory,

There is no reason for you to be sorry for not writing. I understand that you are busy with your studies, just like you always understand that I am from time to time busy with work.

It does sound very interesting, though at the same time it sounds slightly dangerous and not something I would want you to be a part of. However, since your professor had gotten it accepted I am sure you were never in any actual danger.

I hope you are well after it all

I did not sign up for the duels, I have seen how they can end so I usually find other things to do during the weekend.

Not much have happened in my life, I will admit that my life can be rather boring at times, but hopefully once we marry, you will make me look forward to getting home from work.

    December 3 1883,
    Cousin Edward,

You always seem so concerned about me being hurt! Do you think me so silly that I cannot properly take care of myself?

Please, do not think that I am chiding you - I have noticed that I may come off differently in letters than how I actually feel.

I cannot blame you for being worried, considering your occupation, after all! You probably see victims of badly practiced spells daily, so you must be worried whenever someone attempts something too complicated. But I assure you that I have always been good at using wands. Classes that involve wand-work have always been my favourite. Except Charms, but I blame Professor Argyle for making the passing grade ridiculously high. I wish I could say that I am similarly talented with potions and herbology, but then, you'll be good at them for the both of us.

    Yours truly,

    Ellory Pendergast

    Dear Ellory,

I am naturally concerned about those that I take close to my heart, and you have already gotten very close to my heart.

And I do not think you are silly, far from it - just very unlucky.

Now I am sure you can look after yourself, and I am sure you will get good grades in your NEWTs - and where you have problems, potions and herbology as you mention yourself, then I am sure we can get by when we work together.

    December 5 1883,
    Cousin Edward,

Very unlucky? I find it quite amusing that you have this impression of me! I would call myself clumsy, perhaps, but not at all unlucky! If I were unlucky, as you seem to consider me, then I would have likely failed my OWLs, never been picked as prefect and I'd probably be betrothed to someone horrible and old. But seeing that none of these are the case, I'd call myself quite lucky.

I appreciate your offer for help, though am quite good with the classes I take. Besides, you have better things to do than help 'unlucky' school-girls. Like making sure that not half the population has feathers and tails because of failed spells.

    Yours truly,

    Ellory Pendergast

    December 6 1883,
    Dear Ellory,

Maybe unlucky was a bad choice of words, but I had a hard time finding another after having been to work for half a day.

I hope you can forgive me, though I will admit I do not find it hard to imagine that you will forgive me. You are a kind young lady and as such I cannot see it being a problem.

My offer for help is of course counting from now, though you are right in your assumption that I am quite busy at times, then I will always find time for you.

    Edward
