What was it about?

[Mordecai Greengrass]

Mordecai was not sure why he even had to follow his governess, but he was not one to fight her. He liked being out alone, and being in Gladrags, was not exactly a place where he expected anyone would bother him. He had been having another terrible nightmare this night so he was feeling very jumpy and nervous today. He had taken some paper and a piece of coal with him, and while his governess were being fitted for a dress, he sat down silently and tried to focus sorely on the nightmare.

He began drawing, what little he could remember from his nightmare. It did not really made any sense, but maybe if he drew it. Because usually he could not even remember the nightmares when he woke up, so he was definitely going to do what he could to keep remembering this nightmare - it might help mother and father to find a healer that could help him stop these nightmares. "Now what was it about?" he mumbled to himself.

Children were not unseen in Gladrags. Cassie rarely paid them too much attention, and at first she ignored the boy who had come with his governess. She was still not feeling back up to par after fainting earlier in the day, and was attempting to go about her work.

Then he got out some charcoal, and Cassandra's dark eyes went sharply to his minder before she addressed the child directly. "You can't have that out in here, little one. You'll get all the fabrics smutty."

Mordecai looked up surprised and with wide eyes when someone talked to him. "I will not touch anything, I promise. I just really need to draw this before I forget it." he said quickly and politely. Mordecai was not one to go against someone telling him something, and he knew that he had nothing to say here. He was not sure if she was right or not, so he were going to accept what she said as true.

"It is very important." he added, in hoping on convincing her.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

"Not in the shop," Cass said firmly. "If I let you ruin the fabrics, they'll take it out of my pay." She could not afford even a fraction of the fabrics in Gladrags, and she was not going to be lax on this.

  

[Mordecai Greengrass]

"I will get my parents to pay if it happens. Please, I am never able to remember my nightmares." he said and looked at her. "If I can remember the nightmare, it might help get them away. It will make things easier for my parents." he added.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

"Not in the shop," Cassandra repeated. She felt for the boy; nightmares were hardly wonderful. Still, he was just a child, and he could not guarantee that his parents would pay for any mishap he had. "If you want to do that, you'll have to scoot along outside."

  

[Mordecai Greengrass]

"I am not allowed outside the shop until my governess is finished in here." he said quickly. "Please, it is very important. Or it felt important." he said feeling more and more confused by the second - but still, he placed the coal away and waited.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

Whether his dream felt important or not, Cassandra couldn't have him drawing with coal in the shop around all the expensive fabrics. She hesitated, then got out the rag used to clean the counter, made sure it was clean, and then used her wand to dampen it.

"Here," she told the boy. "Wipe your fingers and tell me about your dream."

When the rag was held out to him, he carefully took it and wiped his fingers clean. He had given up getting to draw his thoughts now, so he might as well keep his fingers clean if it made her happy. "It was mostly just a bad feeling, like many of them." he said and looked at her, holding back the rag as he was sure his fingers were clean. "Some man went out and then this other person came up and placed his hands I think, around his neck. And he just kept them there." he said, not sure if he made any sense, but it scared him.

Cassandra hesitated; that had an odd ring of truth to it. There was something about it that seemed like fact, not a dream. "Do you have other dreams?" she asked kindly. "Ones like this one, where you get a bad feeling and have trouble remembering them?"

Mordecai looked up confused at her, everyone so far had just said it was just nightmares with nothing in it, but then - he had never been able to remember anything like this before. "Yes. Whenever I have a nightmare, I just have this bad feeling and cannot remember what it was about." he said and looked confused at her. He had seen a lot of healers, his parents had paid lots of galleons and sickles to them to get them to make the nightmares go away.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

"Do you write well? Or just draw?" Either way, it hardly mattered. "You should get a book, a journal, to keep by your bed -- and a light, something that you can easily turn up if you have one of these nightmares. Then make sure you record them right away, write them down or draw them. When you have ten or so ... then have someone bring you back." She hesitated. "Tell them to bring you to see Cassandra Trelawney with them."

  

[Mordecai Greengrass]

Mordecai was wondering why she wanted him to draw his nightmares. They were just nightmares afterall, so what did it matter? "But - they are just nightmares." he said and looked confused at her. "I have seen a lot of healers about it. It is just nightmares." he truly believed that it could not be anything other than that. His parents believed that was what it was, and so did he.

"I have only managed to remember a little bit before once - it was a few months ago, something with a fire and people screaming." he admitted.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

"And no one can make the nightmares go away, or figure out what causes them?" Cassandra asked. Sometimes, things showed like this ...

"Just give it a try, little one," she said kindly. "It might help the nightmares."

  

[Mordecai Greengrass]

"Not yet." he said while shaking his head. He had not give up hope, because his parents would still pay for healers to help him.

"It cannot hurt." he said and shrugged his shoulders when she asked him to try.

  

[Cassandra Trelawney I]

"It cannot hurt," Cassandra confirmed with a smile. "Even if it does not help me, it may help the healers to find what is wrong." She paused. "It would help if you tried to remember to put the dates on your dreams."

That way she could, perhaps, tell whether or not this boy was dreaming of the future.
