    Delightful breeze, don't you think?

Love is thinking about others before yourself

Eurydice held the fabric of one side of her dress and lifted it slightly in order for her to negotiate the step out of the carriage, one hand resting against the side of the doorway to steady herself. She was supposedly on the way to getting better, a fact she had been thrilled about as she was eager to get over her illness and move on. However, though she might be on the recovering end, she wasn't completely back to full health quite yet. Charlie of course had been at her side the whole time; something she hoped she had not taken advantage of too much or made him feel obliged to do. He was really very sweet and far too charming than was healthy for a young man. Or for ladies.

Wearing a shawl draped over her shoulders for warmth against the autumn breezes, she was pleased to be out of doors and instead outside enjoying what was left of the warmer weather. Merlin knows it was going to be much colder in the following weeks and she didn't particularly want to venture out in that weather too often and risk damaging her recovering lungs. Icy cold air surely couldn't do much good for them. She looked over at Charlie and smiled faintly, "I'm glad we came here..."

The autumn had to be Charlie's favorite thing about his migration to Hogsmeade. In New Orleans, it was always humid. Stickiness has not only found on those delightful little buns, but everywhere; on your skin, in your hair, down to your very soul. Not sayin' it hadn't taken getting used to, but now it was something Charlie definitely enjoyed. The crisp breezes seemed to take away the life from the now-bronze-&-gold trees, but breathe life into the young American.

Hopefully, it would also inspire Mr. Gilmore's lover - or to more pleasant company, Ms. Eurydice Spencer. The only word the came to mind when Charlie thought of Eury was vibrant. Recently, though, through lots of medical procedures and extended stays in the Hospital, she'd been less of that and more like her own age. This had spurred Charlie to ask her if she'd like to go on an excursion to Padmore Park for some fresh air and more lively companionship than that of the dingy nurses in the Oncology branch.

"I'm glad we came here..." commented Eurydice, and Charlie offered her his arm. It did not matter to him that they were in public, because he would simply be seen as a kind gentlemen helping an ailing widow on a walk. Good publicity was exactly what he needed, especially after the past few weeks. Thoughts of Elena had plagued him, and he suppressed the by spending more and more time with Eurydice. It wasn't exactly a chore, and it wasn't really social time (because Charlie's social time involved beds and little clothing), but it was certainly better than him moping around thinking about lost love. Or worse: writing emotionally unstable and tear-stained poetry!

"Me, too, Miss Spencer. I do hope you feel better after today, so that you can finally be rid of that forsaken hospital room!" he said. Charlie had to lighten up the mood, because he couldn't risk the trip turning sour. Eurydice would grow worried and then get sicker, and then Charlie would be left with no-one. His sisters were off at school (and their correspondences were few and far apart), his friends were all alcoholics like him and couldn't understand why he would even dream of being sober, and Charlie didn't really have anyone else. Well, there was Anne-Marie, but Charlie wasn't really in the mood for a horizontal-tango at the moment.

Charlie glanced down to make sure Eurydice had a scarf around her throat and draped down her chest. The worst possible thing that could happen would be for her to catch pneumonia. Her lungs were fragile enough, and then add that to the mix? Charlie could barely imagine the dismal future that that would encompass. They walked at a slow pace, taking in the rejuvenating air and the colorful flowers. Out of the corner of his eye Charlie spotted some little, red buds that bloomed to resemble bloody hearts. The sight repulsed him, so he averted his gaze.

The concept of love was foul, at least this was what Charlie told himself. He'd been cheated of it. It had been stolen away by a thief in the night. Right? Was it right of him to be so closed off to the possibility of the thing? Heck, he had a wonderful - amazing, even - woman that was his lover standing right next to him! For the moment, Charlie decided to swallow his stupid qualms and just love. Just let the flag fly in whichever way the wind decided to take it.

"We really should do this more often, just you 'n me." he suggested. He gave her arm a gentle and lingering pat, so as to convey the emotions he could not express in front of so many prying eyes. I love you, he thought. Maybe not conventionally, but I hope you know that I do.

    Charlie wants his bosom buddy!

Charlie here has a ~thick~ Southern accent, so sometimes your character may think him strange, not understand him, or be confused by his word choice.

She knew all too well what society would think of their improper relationship, their... What was the right word for it? Dalliance? Yes, that fit. It fit rather too well for her liking. Behaving herself had never been something she had had difficulty with but sometimes even she couldn't help but give in to indulgence. Of course she knew Charlie had his own agenda, his own life, his other... lovers... but she would never have it in her to expect anything more from him. She was his landlady (of sorts) for goodness sake, his senior by more than just a couple of years and almost certainly incapable of giving him children or anything more than she did already.

They certainly were a pair. He was as melancholy as a graveyard on a rainy day and she was far more frail and delicate than she cared to admit. Well, if one was comparing to how she had been, she was comparably much stronger now. At least one of them was improving. Her heart bled for Charlie, truly it did, even if his heart was broken over another. He had been far more supportive and loyal than she had ever expected of him and for that she could never repay him.

Eurydice accepted his offered arm gratefully, flashing him a faint smile of gratitude which widened slightly at the lighthearted nature of conversation he introduced. She was quite certain it was not genuine lightheartedness but his effort was nonetheless appreciated. Just a glimmer of a sense of humor was music to her ears. "I shall most certainly be glad to see the back of it..." There was a slight delay before she continued. "I suppose they shall be glad to see the back of me also. A mutually satisfying parting, don't you think?" She flashed him a crooked grin. She would have been perfectly happy never to see the inside of the hospital again. Of course she knew better but she could still hold hope; she had no intention of allowing her health to fall into a sudden rapid decline. Not that illnesses ever liked to take into consideration the intentions of their host.

She liked the sound of more frequent trips to Padmore Park. Being cooped up for any amount of time was challenging for her; she needed a certain degree of freedom. Her late husband had been so inattentive and very poor company that she had learned to be more independent, more spontaneous with her actions. Boredom would strike and she would suddenly take her leave and find something to pass the time in the world outside the house. It made life interesting and therefore bearable. To have that taken from her was frustrating and debilitating to say the least.

"I should like that very much, you know. It is such a shame to spend countless hours inside when one can take a leisurely stroll." Eurydice wanted to ignore and forget about the fact that she wasn't quite fit as a fiddle, the lurking knowledge at the back of her mind that she wasn't did not at all encourage a carefree mood. His caring gesture in the form of gently patting her arm was not missed. She glanced down briefly, momentarily reading more into it before dismissing herself as a fool and looking back up with the faintest of smiles detectable on her face. "I ought to thank you, Mr. Gilmore. You have been an invaluable comfort to me. I cannot think how to repay your kindness." The formality of it left a bad taste in her mouth but Padmore Park was not exactly devoid of other people.

At Eurydice's crooked grin, Charlie had to give one of his own. He smirked down at her, glad that her vitality was infectious and could lighten up even his somber mood. He'd have to give her a good show, at least, even if he wasn't up to lighthearted strolling or conversation, because his Eury needed the brand of fun only Mr. Gilmore could provide.

"Very mutually satisfying parting, Eury. I can't wait until I can take you to a ball again!" Charlie chuckled, reminiscing about how long it had been since he'd attended a decent ball. Sure, his birthday bash hadn't been half bad, but for him it had pretty much a waste. Charlie was also extremely wasted that night, but he hadn't done anything too stupid. At least not compared to other grievous mistakes the American had made.

The path they had chosen at the beginning of their walk twisted and drifted into a lush little clearing with apple trees. Charlie saw a little cottontail rabbit scurry along and couldn't help but roll his eyes. It was all so clichÚ, but Eury seemed to be enjoying everything about it so he played nice and went along with it. Reaching up, he picked an apple from the nearest bough and took a bite. The satisfying crunch frightened away the little rabbit and Charlie shook his head in amusement. "[b]Do you want an apple, darling?" he inquired, confident that no one was in earshot.

He heard her thanks and quirked an eyebrow. It was rather formal and did not suit her; upper class woman or not, Eurydice was Eurydice and she was a free spirit. That was one of the multitudes of reasons why Charlie loved her. "Oh, I can actually think of quite a few... things you can do to repay me, Ms. Spencer." he teased quietly, leaning in and whispering the words into her ear. Why he was being so forward, Charlie didn't know, but to be honest, he didn't really care either.

He took another bite out of his apple as they continued walking and he waited for her - undoubtedly flustered - response. Of course, Eury was rather hard to fluster nowadays since she had been exposed to the teasing of Mr. Gilmore for two, nearly three, years. Not to mention, Eurydice could flirt almost as much as Charlie could, and that was one hell of a lot!

Ah, balls... How long had it been since she had attended one? Long enough for her to forget the exact date, anyhow. She liked them well enough, enjoyed the anticipation of the occasion, the social aspect of it all. She hadn't enjoyed them so much on her late husband's arm, not when she could sense his eagerness to detach himself from her presence. Charlie wasn't like that, not at all. "Hopefully it shan't be long now, they say I'm improving quicker than they anticipated!" That fact in itself was either reassuring or disconcerting to the very paranoid. Fortunately, Eury was not amongst the very paranoid and she found it most pleasing.

The sun was pleasantly warm but the breeze did have a cold nip to it that prevented it from being quite as perfect as it could have been. She caught Charlie's eyes rolling and felt the corners of her mouth twitch in a small smile of amusement; his cynicism was somehow highly endearing to her, for what reason exactly she could not put her finger on. Her smile broadened as he addressed her as 'darling', at which she glanced around almost guiltily as a young school girl might. Satisfied that there was no one in nearby vicinity, she smiled at him and proceeded to give her response. "Oh why not? Yes please, I shall have one. What is it they say about apples? Have an apple a day and you'll keep... Oh what is it? It's on the very tip of my tongue! Oh never mind, I know it is something to do with health anyhow, perhaps there lies in it some truth." There was a small frown of concentration on her brow as she tried to recall the accurate phrasing of the saying but it was just out of her grasp. In general, Eury was not a very superstitious woman, at least not consciously anyhow. She wasn't confident enough in this belief to attempt wishing bad luck upon herself by purposely breaking a mirror or wasting her time hunting the grounds of her estate for a four leaf clover.

As relaxed as the blonde might be about society compared to those who constantly picked and complained and stuck to them as though they provided the very air they breathed, there were still habits and mannerisms that an upbringing in a wealthy, high class family had provided her and Ulysses had let her know just what he expected of her in terms of social graces - all in all, such habits occasionally took over when it was unnecessary.

Eury raised her eyebrows in mild surprise at his insinuations, "Somehow I do not doubt that for a second," she whispered back a few moments later as she restrained a broad smirk only with half success. "Dare I even ask as to what you are suggesting?" she murmured, unable to prevent herself from glancing at him almost sheepishly.
