    The Badger Cousins Pendergast

    Dear William,

Thank you for your kind words after my father died cousin, I'm only sorry it's take me so long to say so. Please be assumed, you're not the only one I've been lax with!

I hope this letter finds you very well, mama is very keen to know that all her nieces and nephews are perfectly well. If she had her way I suspect she'd move every Pendergast and Macmillan to the castle to keep us all out of harm's way - although I do hope terribly that the worst is over for us.

    Best wishes,
    Minnie.

    Dear Minnie,
No apologies are necessary, Cousin! I have no doubt that this must be a particularly trying time for you and your family, and you have been duly forgiven.

Your letter does, indeed, find myself in good health. Aunt Atalanta will be glad to know that I am far away plague-ridden Hogsmeade. My father-in-law had been gracious enough to extend an invitation to my wife and I to reside in the country until the illness has passed, and we had been fortunate enough to escape town before the quarantine had been established. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for my mother and my younger sisters and brother, but thankfully their home has only suffered minimal damage from the fire, and for that I am highly grateful. This family suffered enough loss for a good, long while.

I now end this letter in hopes that you and our family are all in good health, and pray that we may see better days in the near future.

    Sincerest Regards,
    William

    Dear William,

As there is precious little to do at uncle John's castle other than write letters I do hope you won't mind another epistle so soon? At the moment I find I crave a sense of unity with the family that isn't here and those that remain trapped in Hogsmeade, even if I think I would be utterly terrified to be trapped in the village! How terrifying it must have been during the blaze! no more terrifying that staying in Fort Lestrange

Mama reminded me how remiss I was in my last letter not to ask after Tullia and her health specifically. I confess it still seems rather strange to me that one of our former housemates is now a member of the family and I hope I shall see her again very soon - our paths haven't crossed properly since your wedding!

As we're all out of the village perhaps we shall see you sooner rather than later. Although I pray that the quarantine will be ended soon. My very dear friend Ivy - you recall Ivy? She was in our house and year too and is soon to be married to Mr Scrivenshaft - is still there and I fret about her every day.

    Sincerely,
    Minnie.
