Well, Don't Expect Me To Move

Kristoffer had claimed a table in the common room by dumping his textbooks unceremonially upon it when he'd come back in after the day's classes (yawn) and had planned to just sit there not doing work for an hour or two. Pity all the sofas were already full of NEWT students (who didn't ever seem to be in class, and neither did they seem to be doing work, ugh); that might have been more comfortable. Kristoffer had homework to do, technically, but that would require sorting out homework that got the honour of being done from the rest of the shit they were given.

After a while of sitting there gazing aimlessly at the nearest lamp, glowing with that greenish hue peculiar to the castle's dungeons, Kristoffer tramped upstairs to snag a box of cauldron cakes from where he'd hidden them in his trunk. When he got back downstairs he'd already eaten half of one, but as he approached his table he slowed in his chewing. Someone was sitting at his table.

It was Miss Lynch, October or something - a terribly stupid name. He'd have said 'for a terribly stupid girl', but 1) all girls were stupid and 2) Miss Lynch was actually one of the least offensive ones. (Pureblood, at least. In some of his classes. And in Slytherin.) Luckily for her, she'd sat in the empty seat and not his, even if she had claimed the spot without being invited, or perhaps without realising that she was infringing on his space. Kristoffer glared at her, but was miraculously polite enough not to demand she get the hell off his table. For the moment, at least.

He sat down, stuffing the rest of that cauldron cake in his mouth, set the box of the rest of them down on the table with a thud, and watched her with deliberately narrowed eyes, wondering what she thought she was doing.

October was glad that the day was done. She could finally rest and do whatever she wanted...after doing homework. The girl welcomed the room’s cool atmosphere. Oddly, she found it calming.

Wandering around the common room, she finally found an ‘empty’ table. October had failed to notice the textbooks on the other side. She wanted to quickly finish all the work she had to do. The third year of her schooling was much harder than she had expected, especially with her additional classes. She’ll manage...somehow.

She chose to do her potions homework first as it seemed to be the easiest.  She took her book and flipped through its pages. Her attention was taken by the small thud in front of her. She looked up to see Mr. Kristoffer Lestrange , one of the many Lestrange that was in her house, sat in the other chair.  She found it a bit amusing that his family still required to undergo sorting when all of them were sorted in Slytherin. (Speaking of the sorting... There was a new Lestrange added. Her name was uhhh... Grete...Gretel..Gretchen...whatever. She couldn’t remember)

“Good Evening, Mr.Lestrange.” Tobby greeted . “Would it be alright if I sit here?” She asked. In her opinion he should be the one to ask as she claimed the table first. He was older though..It would be bad for her if she said something wrong to him and It wasn’t in her nature to be rude.

Fortunately for her, she'd learnt enough manners to have asked. Kristoffer sized her up some more; she could have prostrated herself on the floor and he wouldn't have come to an immediate conclusion that she could. He hadn't decided whether to kick her off his table, either, yet, though the thought was tempting...

But perhaps she was doing homework. He had homework to do. Perhaps she could do his in payment for being able to sit at this table. Kristoffer would see. "Depends what you're doing," he offered flippantly - with none of Miss Lynch's polite decorum - licking a few cake crumbs from his finger.

October regretted her decision on choosing to study in the common room. She could be in the library now studying peacefully and not talking to the rich pureblood boy in front of her. Sigh.

“Doing Homework...Studying.” October replied. And not being lazy and eating cauldron cake like you added in her mind. She resisted the urge roll her eyes. From the looks of it he doesn’t even need her table. Sure he brought some books with him but he was not doing anything with them. “Why?”Tobby asked with  fake sweetness in her tone.

So she was doing homework. (Or would be, if he weren't talking to her.) Dull, but what he'd predicted. Kristoffer simply shrugged at that answer, raised an eyebrow at the tone of her question, and at the very fact she'd been bold enough to ask. "Well, I don't need distractions," he answered carelessly; surely that had been obvious. If she was going to be a pain, no one would want her at their table, whether any work was being done or not. Not that studying necessarily meant she wouldn't be an annoyance. (Not that Kristoffer wasn't the bigger annoyance.)

Kris leant forwards. "Which homework?" He asked nonchalantly, though before she could answer, he grabbed the book she had open, spun it round so it was facing him and upside for her. "Potions?" Looked like it.

He hadn't started his potions yet. He hadn't yet returned her book to the proper orientation yet, either, but he supposed she could stay. He just had to figure out how to get her to give him her homework notes, else he'd have to sneak a look himself.

Wasn’t he the one distracting her from finishing her homework? He shouldn’t even have brought cauldron cakes with him if he wanted to work diligently. The mere sight of them would just make her want to eat them rather than finish her homework. “Don’t worry I won’t keep you from doing your schoolwork.” She said coolly.

October was surprised that the older slytherin had turned her textbook upside down so he could look. Rude. If she wasn’t taught proper manners she would happily smack him with one of her thicker books. Weren’t the Upper Class supposed to be well mannered ones? Sadly this boy was left out. “Yes...” She had bad feeling about this.

He just raised an eyebrow at her assurance, offered audaciously coolly. He could almost sense a bit of sass, there (which, sure, might have a little to do with the fact that he hadn't yet touched his homework).

He stared at her a minute, thinking. "Well, go ahead." Kristoffer offered abruptly, repositioning her book, depositing it ever so carefully back in front of her, even brushing a crumb off the page (and clear off the table, for the house elves to lick up later). "Carry on." A flash of a smile swept across his face, as he leant back, arms folded.

He'd give her a minute or two's headstart, so that she actually had something he could copy from her. He couldn't take homework if she were an idiot, either, so he'd have to see. And maybe not distract her. He wondered whether she'd go for a cauldron cake, if he gave her one as part of the negotiation. (She should count herself lucky that he was even considering negotiating, and not just appropriating. This was Kristoffer at his most considerate.)

She stared back at Mr. Lestrange as she tried to guess what he was planning. Her brows furrowed for a second as he returned the book. She managed to notice him brush off crumbs from her book. How odd. At first he was being rude then he became nice. Which she would have normally liked but it felt so unnatural. His smile was such a huge waste because it did not suit his face.

At least he didn’t kick her off of the table (Which was hers by the way). She blinked for a few times before finally starting her homework... slowly (But surely). A weird feeling was bothering her because of Mr.Lestrange’s sudden change of attitude towards her and the fact that he hasn't started with his school work yet.

Minutes ticking by slowly, and Kristoffer feeling particularly restless having to share his table with someone - he wasn't used to sharing, and he didn't much like the thought of having an audience, even that of a younger girl whose opinion he couldn't care less about - he made a show of flicking through his own Potions textbook. He'd set out some parchment, too, unscrewed his ink bottle, readied himself to write. He even cast the homework questions a cursory glance, then pretended to write down the answer (in reality, just a scribble in the corner that he'd tear off later) before he glanced across at her.

"I doubt you could even answer the first question," he commented dismissively, though he hoped otherwise. First, though, he wanted to get a rise out of her. Then maybe she'd give her answer up, and he'd be one step closer to not having to think about Potions and she would have begun paying for the privilege to be here.

Finally the older boy had started working but it didn’t seemed right.  Especially since she had noticed Mr. Lestrange had glanced at her a few times.  She looked over shortly to see the boy’s work but as she expected. He was scribbling.

With Kristoffer’s comment, Tobby looked up with a confused expression. Was he perhaps insulting her so that she would get off the table on her own or he was just plain old rude? “If you’re not sure about my intellect then as an older student, then would you be so kind enough to help me?” She suggested, slightly irritated with his comment. She might not be a Ravenclaw or Febby but she still managed to at least answer some of the questions in the homework.

Well, that had backfired completely. Kristoffer frowned at her slightly, wondering how on earth she had managed to twist that into him helping her when clearly she was supposed to give him the answers and save him all the hassle. He was also annoyed that even though she hadn't been indignant enough to spout the answer straight away, she had still managed to be insolent, almost sarcastic.

He huffed. Look at she was making him do! (He could have continued insulting her in spite and gotten her to leave, but Kristoffer was too stubbornly set towards actually making this interaction with her worthwhile and getting his homework done in the process that putting a stupid amount of effort into making her do it instead seemed to make perfect sense to him.) "Of course I would," he said casually, thinking that his agreement might at least shock her. He even tried a brief smile again, but given the begrudgement behind it, he wasn't sure it had worked any better than last time. "What answer did you get?" Kris asked with an exaggerated air of thoughtfulness and patience, as though he were actually going to kindly correct her if she were wrong.
