    Tilda MacFusty vs. Gemma Simpson
    #1
Hal honestly did not know what sort of a judge he might be, of this. His specialisms in runic magic were unlikely to feature much in duels - and indeed, this was not even a duel like the sort he had participated in himself, for it was a young ladies' demonstration. Hopefully he would not be completely out of his depth (he gave the two an almost pleading look, that perhaps they might spare him a comparison of flowers and lace). Once he'd read the rules aloud, Halvar said, "Miss MacFusty to begin."

She was dueling against Gemma! Tilda grinned, knowing full well that both of them would rather be dueling with less lady-like spells. Still, after curtseying, she took off the signet ruby dragon ring on her finger and attempted to make it slither and sparkle through the air around the judge.

Of course she'd start with Tilda, why not?

Gemma had to remind herself that signing up for the dueling tournament was her idea, just to get Harry to play along! She watched as Tilda started and Gemma waited after curtsying to the best of her clumsy abilities. Now what did she do? This was exactly why she didn't do these things!

In a hurry to do something, she cast engorgio on Tilda's ring and hoped for the best.

Though the first idea held more creativity, it did not work quite as planned - luckily, then, the enlarging spell was effortlessly executed. An interesting choice to add to her opponent's first display, but it had worked well. "The first round to Miss Simpson," Halvar announced. "Miss Simpson, the floor is yours."

Gemma's jaw nearly hit the floor.

She'd managed to beat Tilda in the first round? Professor Kirmani must have been off his rocker.

Raising her wand, Gemma sped through her options and decided that she could probably handle a color-changing charm, so she aimed her wand at her own shoes and cast, "Colovaria!" As confidently as she could.

Tilda was slightly disappointed that she'd lost the first round, but she couldn't help but laugh as she saw the shocked look on her friend's face. She clapped along with the others though, and prepared for when it was her turn. Finally she attempted to make the candles on either side of the Great Hall shoot a wide and glittering arc of fire. No Lady hasn't used this spell at all before

Both spells were decent, if neither perfect, but it was the arc of fire that was undeniably the more impressive. "Miss MacFusty evens the score, and may begin the third round," Hal declared.

Tilda then took her ruby ring and attempted to transfigure it into a small dragon to fit in the palm of her hand (like the ones in GOF).

Gemma grinned; that was more like it. Of course Tilda's demonstration of the fire was much more impressive than Gem's attempt at changing her shoes around.

She watched, clearly fascinated, as Tilda transformed her ring. Certainly that was the nail on her metaphorical coffin as far as this duel was concerned. Still, she had to go with something, so aimed her wand toward the ceiling and attempted a snowflake-creating charm.

The ring only became half a dragon; the snowflake charm, while perhaps less ambitious, was executed flawlessly, thus there was only one way to rule. "With that, it is Miss Simpson who will progress to the next round; commiserations, Miss MacFusty."

[Tilda: 9, Gemma: 14] lmao sorry gemma
