Tristan wasn't pleased with how he had performed in the last game. Yes, Gryffindor had won but his own performance had been shoddy at best. He obviously needed to practice harder, train harder and maybe actually get a good nights sleep for once. He was willing to bet that his shitty performance had a lot to do with the fact that he had barely had a good nights rest since September.

His mood had not improved any when he had received word from his mother that she fully expected him with her for some of the Christmas holiday and worse, she expected him to perform. At the very least, she had let him choose whatever pieces he wanted and one of his selections had been Vivaldi's Winter from the Four Seasons.

Tristan didn't know yet which pieces he was going to play on piano and which he would play on the violin but he had some time to figure that shit out. At the very least, having to practice helped kill time and gave him something to focus on. Playing his instruments also tended to sooth him which was something he sorely needed.

Lost in his music, the other people in the room ceased to exist and his mind was entirely in the realm it left to whenever he played, his fingers seemingly gliding across his violin's string like they were one with the instrument.

Rasmus had not expected to find Tristan in the music room when he had come for some extra practice. He was always quiet about entering the room when he heard someone else playing, but when he saw his lover lost in the Vivaldi piece he stopped jut inside the door to watch and listen as his lover expertly drew the bow across the strings and coaxed pure beauty from his instrument. He barely wanted to breathe lest he interrupt the other boy, and he stayed very still until his beloved completed the piece.

"Beautiful," he murmured after Tris had finished playing, going over to the other boy with his cello. "Winter? It was an excellent rendition." He couldn't say publicly how much he loved his beloved, his lover, his best friend - but he could compliment the other boy's skill as a musician. "Mind if I join you?"

Tristan glanced over at his lover as the older boy made his presence known. How long had he been standing there? Not that it really mattered, of course. "Thank you," he said with a smile when his beloved complimented his musical skills.

"Go right ahead," Tristan replied when Rasmus asked if he could join him. As if he would ever say no to having the half-veela joining him anywhere. Unless he was in the loo, that was. In that case, he would think his lover had lost his damned mind.

"I could use your help actually. My mother has insisted I perform during some dinner thing over the holidays. I need to select four pieces. I could do the rest of the three seasons but it will annoy my mother to play one and not the rest." Tristan took a moment to cackle before waiting to see what Raz would say.

At Tristan's thanks, Rasmus flashed his lover a smile and then sat next to him as he was given permission to do so. His smile faded slightly when he was informed his lover would be spending part of his winter holiday amusing his mother. That was less time that they would have together, and Rasmus felt a flash of resentment towards Tristan's mother.

"You could go with a winter theme," he suggested, "and just play four wintery pieces." At the moment, Rasmus was definitely all for annoying his beloved's mother. Couldn't she just go abuse her calming draughts and leave everyone else alone?

"I suppose. Something Christmas-y though we're not the religious sorts." No one he knew was, really. Especially not his family with their vampire patriarch. He would probably burn to ashes if he tried stepping into a chapel. Yeah, he wasn't going to ever chance going to church. His future bride could deal with an at home wedding. Unless homosexuality was legalized before then, obviously. Then he would live in marvelous sin with Rasmus until gay marriage was also legalized. Yes, awesome plan.

Unaware of his beloved's train of thought, Rasmus pondered Christmas music. "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring?" he suggested. "It makes a very lovely violin piece, and its pacing is different enough from Winter that they won't blend together." Rasmus wasn't particularly religious, either, and it didn't surprise him that a part-vampire family was not exactly keen on church. He somehow did not think that the Church of England would approve of a part-vampire or a half-veela even without their bedroom preferences and 'unnatural' love, but frankly he didn't care enough about God or religion to worry himself over what the church would approve of.

Tristan considered this option before nodding his approval. "That should do well enough. Now I just need to figure out which two pieces to play on the piano. Ugh." Placing his violin carefully back into his case, Tristan took a moment to run his hands over his face in frustration."Why can't she just leave me alone? And I very much doubt you would be able to come out to Wales as my guest."

It would have been awesome to fuck Raz under his mothers roof and defile his bedroom with his beloveds assistance. Not that he wanted his mother to find out he was having a sordid affair with a schoolmate - it would just make him smug to deal with her whilst knowing he'd bent Raz over his desk or something.

"I wish I could. We could do a couple of duets to amused your mother's friends." He somehow doubted he'd be allowed ... really, almost getting killed had pretty effectively tied him to Hogsmeade. "I'll be seventeen before summer, though!"

"We could have," Tristan murmured, his mood feeling cold as seemed to happen lately. And as usual, no evidence of it showed up in his mannerisms or expression. Anyone looking at him would not assume that anything was wrong with him. Which was good, he supposed.

Right, Raz would be seventeen soon. Did he still want to go to his deceased lovers grave? He couldn't ask that right now, though, considering where they were and all. "Did you watch the Quidditch match?" He asked instead despite the fact that he had been well aware that Raz was there. He'd mistaken his aim a couple of times because he'd been more focused on why the ever loving fuck the girl behind Rasmus kept obviously trying to swindle her way next to his lover. Not that his lover had seemed to notice but still.

"If your mother wants you to play for her over the summer, I could probably tag along," he offered, unaware at the moment that his lover was - once more - hiding the way he felt. He was going to be an adult, and once more he found himself wondering if he would then be allowed to sign himself out on Hogsmeade weekends. Probably not ... but it would certainly make getting places easier once he'd gotten his apparition licence.

As for the game ... "Of course I did. Congratulations on winning." He had been very focused on watching Tris while trying not to cheer too much for a friend, and hadn't noticed much else.

"That would be great," Tristan said. "She's always on me about how I never have friends over." Which was obviously because his mother was embarrassing. He wouldn't be surprised if she hit on Raz due to his passive veela charms.

"Thanks. Good luck on your own though I can't truthfully say I hope you win," Tris laughed.

"I'm sure she'll like me," Raz said dryly. "I'll be perfectly polite." Tristan would just have to forgive him for avoiding introducing him to his own mother. Forever, if possible. Mother would probably not try anything, but Raz was never entirely sure what she would do our not do and he was not going to risk anything. He smiled at the wish of luck, then asked, "Duet, Tristan?"

"Just don't be too charming," Tristan stated in false lightness. "I'll have to hear about you for days if you are." He nodded at the question of a duet. "Shall I play the piano or the violin?"

Rasmus tossed his lover an amused look; it was hardly like he was going to actively charm his mother! Just be charming enough to assure she had no objections to him spending time with her son ... even if she'd never know just how close the two of them were. "Piano,"  he said promptly, wanting to be close to his lover. "We could play through our composition to start?"

"Sounds good," Tristan agreed as he settled on one side of the piano bench . Getting his copy of their composition out, he settled it on the music sheet stand before flexing his fingers and brushing them against the ivory keys.

Rasmus settled in next to his lover, wishing that he dared actually touch Tristan. Their love was so dear to him; he could hardly imagine what he'd be like if he lost Tris. And so he had to keep a distance, although his thigh did briefly brush against Tristan's as he settled in beside him on the piano bench. His fingers found their place on the keys as well, his portion of their composition before him - Tris's half a gift from nearly a year before now - and he nodded at his lover to confirm that he was ready to play.
