May Your Days Be Merry and Bright

    Dear August,
I know that we had both agreed to exchange gifts the day after tomorrow, but it didn't feel right to go about my Christmas Day without sending you something, and so I hope that you'll forgive me for sending you part of your gift early -- though I rather think you will once you see it.

I remember you commenting during one of excursions to Diagon Alley last summer how much you liked the ice cream at Fudge & Son Desserterie. Unfortunately, it is not quite feasible to send ice cream over in a box without creating a very sticky mess, and so I bought you a container of assorted pastries instead. I can't tell you if their baked goods are any better than their ice cream, but I had been readily assured by one of the shop employees that they are all equally delectable, so I'm sure that they cannot taste too horrid.

Hope you're having a lovely Christmas, and that your day is going as well as can be expected.

    Yours,
    Persephone

    Dear Per,

I wrestled the family owl away from Septembers clutches just to make sure this owl would be able to rush to you in the nick of time. I feel horrible now upon reading your letter as I selfishly want to be present for when you open the gift I've gotten for you - I've been looking forward to your reaction ever since I bought it earlier this month. As such I am sadly going to have to make you wait.

Even worse is that I now have to inform you that an urgent family matter has arose quite suddenly and I will be unable to make our previously set date. I hope you don't mind having to keep our Christmas exchanges to letters for the time being.

Terrible news aside, the pastries you sent were amazing! I'd normally be quite astonished by such a display of memory but I've learned to expect the extraordinary from you on quite the regular basis now. I hope your Christmas has been quite grand and that this owl doesn't disturb you to late at night.

    Yours,
    August

P.S. I lied about not sending anything for you. Crumple this letter up once you're done reading and toss it up into the air.

[Once the letter is crumpled and tossed up into the air a charm activates that turns the paper into a small papermade hummingbird. The hummingbird will then fly down to the nearest surface and began to hum the song 'Silent Night' before going stiff and inanimate again.]
August is currently recovering from amnesia. For the past year and seven months he's been living under the name "Peter" as a LC muggle. He is very slowly remembering bits and pieces of his old life, and thusly will probably not recall your character at all as of right now.

    Dear August,
I’m pleased to hear that you’ve been enjoying the pastries, though please do not feel selfish on my account. I only wished to send you something for Christmas because it just seemed odd not to. I didn’t expect anything from you in return, though the origami hummingbird was a very nice surprise. I currently have it sitting on my desk beside me as a I write this, and I must say, it is very prettily made. I had never taken you for a craftsperson, so you must understand my initial surprise -- though rest assured it is a very pleasant surprise, and I enjoy that there are still things about you that I have yet to learn about.

As for your question, of course I would not mind keeping to letters for the time being. I won’t pry into your family’s affairs, though I do pray that everyone -- yourself, included -- is in good health and that the situation isn’t too dire, and I hope that you know that you can write to me should anything happen. I can’t claim to be very adept at comforting others, though I will try my best if you feel that you have need of it.

I hope that, urgent family matters aside, that your holidays have been happy ones, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

    Yours,
    Persephone

    Dear Per,

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the hummingbird because I must admit that I spent the better half of a few afternoons trying to get the spells to work properly. It probably could have taken me less time, but I refused to ask Febs for any help on the manner.

You should know not to feel bothered by asking me anything ever. I would never find your inquiries bothersome or invasive. On that note though, I can't say things or dire as of yet, but my Father's health has taken a tumble for the worst in the past week. As of now he's been resting at home but it doesn't seem to be a magical bug he can fight off. My Mum said we'd be taking him to the hospital tomorrow despite him insisting that it is nothing.

I'll do my best to let you know when we can meet up - but I fear I won't be able to set a time again until one of the schools next Hogsmeade trips. Please know though that I do really look forward to seeing you. I could honestly really use it right about now. Talking to you always helps ground my mind into sense and reason.

    Yours,
    August

    Dear August,
Well, rest assured, it was time and effort very well-spent, and I’ve gotten plenty of admiring comments from my younger sister (with whom I share a room with) on it. Even if she didn’t quite understand the hummingbird reference like I did.

I am very sorry to hear about your father. From what you have told me, I know that the two of you quite close, so I hope for his speedy recovery. And if there’s anything that I may do for you or your family during this time, please do let me know. I would be more than willing to help. Though might I say that, if he’s suffering from some kind of non-magical ailment, that I’m not sure what a magical hospital might do to help?

I understand, and I do not mind waiting until then. Though write to me every once in awhile, won’t you? I enjoy your letters, and it worries me when I don’t hear from you.

    Yours,
    Persephone

    Dear Per,

My father may have been one of the few things that kept me mildly sane throughout my childhood, what with having to deal with being outnumbered by my sisters and all. I'm almost fairly certain he only was able to convince my mum to let him teach me how to fly at such a young age because I was so easily out-powered by their numbers.

Just writing to me and giving me something to clear my mind with for a few minutes out of the day is all that I need for now. Your letters really have been the brightest point of my days this past week, so thank you and I promise that I'll keep in touch with you.

I'd write more but we're heading out now to take my father to the hospital and I want to send this off while I still have the time.

I hope you have a truly lovely New Years.

    Yours,
    August
