Like a House on Fire [MG]

This is Monthly Grouper--it is open to as many characters as possible!

Esther smelled smoke before she actually saw it. She was leaving her father's house--apparently to run errands, but mostly to be away. She didn't like everything about working at the school, but she liked the feeling of usefulness it brought. Instead of being at home, where she felt like a wayward child.

But as she left home, there was an almost instant smell of something burning. As she continued down the street, the scent grew stronger, until she turned a corner onto the next street and there was a very visible column of smoke rising into the air.

Hurrying along--though Merlin knew what she expected to do when she got there--Esther turned several more corners before finding herself in full view of a house literally on fire.

Aamiya heard the footsteps running towards her. The Hufflepuff,  for once, didn't have anything to offer the situation. How was she supposed to help when there was a fire raging in the house of someone she probably knew?

She felt to close to the fire, and knew it would probably be wise to get farther away from it... but her feet felt glued to where she stood. She turned her head to see who had come running, her eyes feeling a bit bigger (and more watery) than they usually did.
