I am new to your lovely town, and have had few opportunities for social outings thus far. While my English is fair enough, I fear I shall never find my footing here. It is only natural, then, that I have subconsciously searched for those of my home country, in the hopes that I might feel more at home amongst those who share a love of it.
Though I do my best never to give credence to rumors, I could not help my surprise at overhearing not only of an Italian family living nearby, but of one that shares my name. Please do not think me insolent for writing you, Sig.ra Allaird; I could not bear you to think ill of me, and likely it is foolish of me to have done so in the first place, but I am afraid my curiosity has bested me once again.
You see, while it is plainly a romantic notion-and surely nothing more-it has occurred to me that we two might share ancestry at some branch or another. I would hate to inconvenience you and would be disappointed but not at all offended were you to neglect my offer. If you wished it, however, I would consider it an honor to make your acquaintance.
