    Mr. Abbott
    • I am writing in regards to the recently appointed Head of Spell Damage, which, I am sure you know, was vacated during my recent honeymoon, and has since been filled by a woman with no Hogsmeade history, much less history at this hospital.

I cannot pretend that I can fathom why this decision was made, but I shall not question your logic at this point. I only ask why I was not informed of Mr. Dixon retirement. I do not think it much of a jump to assume that I was the logical candidate, having served both in this wing and in this hospital previously, and should have gratefully submitted a letter of inquiry, references, etc., had the position not already been filled upon my return.

I cannot help but feel it a bit insulting to both my character and my work ethic to have been passed over so completely.

    Dear Mr. Riley,

I am sure it is common knowledge that when I took on this position, there was no one to explain to me just how the little wrinkles in the system were ironed out. The hospital I come from in the Austro-Hungarian empire* always accepted applicants and the first applicant to qualify for a position was the one who was accepted. We also let department heads handle the discussion of their leaving with the staff whom they chose to speak with it to. I apologize if this is not how things have been run here previously.

It was certainly not my intent to harm or insult your work ethic or your character. My deepest and most gracious apologies in that regard. If there is something I can do for you, please let me know.

    Yours,
    Mr. Abbott

*I have no idea how they would've referred to the Austro-Hugarian empire back then, so let's pretend this is however they would've referred to it xD

    • The circumstances surrounding your admission to the hospital were obviously less than ideal. Hopefully this incident has provided sufficient insight for you, so that the error will not be repeated in other wards.

To be fair, Mr. Dixon surely would have informed me himself had I not been away on honeymoon while the decision was made, however as it was I was quite unaware of the change until the position had already been filled. Nevermind, though; I believe the new Head can just about find her office without help now so I should say she is progressing well.

While I understand that of course things are quite fixed at this point, I should ask, Mr. Abbott, that when the position is vacated again, you might keep me in mind for the promotion instead of hiring from outside the country.
