Nathaniel is approximately 5'11" and 165 lbs. He is considerably taller than the average gentleman, having two very tall parents himself. He has pale white skin and dark, blackish brown hair. His eyes are an icey blue, and they are framed by thick eyebrows. His jawline is very distinct, and despite being in his thirties he still has some youth left in his countenance. Nathaniel tends to wear an angry, or proud expression upon his face. He liked to wear whites, blacks, and browns as opposed to some of the brighter colors that are in fashion. He has an air of polish and sophistication that follows him around. Nathaniel is left-handed, but was taught to use his right hand for wizardry as ayoung boy in order to keep up appearances (left handedness can be a sign of decreased mental ability, afterall).
History:
Born during the cold months of 1848 to an upper class family of considerable wealth, Nathaniel Winters was brought into the world with a silver spoon. It was understood by the family and by the help that young Nathaniel was to be given everything he desired, as the firstborn male he was quite the blessing and everybody was to view him as such. This being said, childhood was not easy for Nathaniel. He was treated well, but also was ignored. His parents hired out governesses for the children, and as a result Nathaniel formed no connection with either parent. Nathaniel's father was in the business of buying and selling property. Over the course of Nathaniel's childhood, the family accumulated a few properties that they kept for themselves, and Nathaniel traveled often between them. Nathaniel's father rarely traveled with the family, busying himself with his own work and occupations. Nathaniel's mother grew quite ill, and though she lived she was mostly confined to her bed and still is reserved to her quarters. Nathaniel's one friend growing up was Mary, his older sister, who he loved very dearly. Mary always treated him very well, and taught him what he needed to know about society and propriety. Mary always behaved very well and very ladylike.

In 1859, Nathaniel received a letter inviting him to Hogwarts. This was to be expected. His sister had already been attending Hogwarts for three years, and the family had traced their geneaology back to magic bloodlines as far back as one could trace such a thing. Nathaniel's parents had both been in Slytherin House, as had Mary, but Nathaniel was sorted into Ravenclaw. This suited him rather well. Nathaniel had always been bookish. He spent most of his free time playing the piano and reading in the family library, and these pastimes were in common with many of his new housemates. Ravenclaw made Nathaniel feel like he belonged to something in a way that his family had never allowed for.

Nathaniel, being shy and rather timid about making friends, finally came out of his shell once he came to Hogwarts. Coming out of his shell also meant becoming interested in girls. Nathaniel had fallen for a young woman named Eliza Jane Reid in his fifth year of school. She was a two years his junior, beautiful, and incredibly bright. Having been raised strictly in the concepts of propriety, and also being very particular, Nathaniel had a certain type of woman he looked for, and Eliza matched his ideal in every way. She was bright, good at sewing and music, she read often, she was a fine artist, a brilliant conversationalist, and she had a sense of humor. She exceeded and defined his expectations. The two became friends. He was, of course, too young in comparison to her to ever hope for her hand in marriage. Nonetheless, he hoped for her most ardently. They became close friends, and spoke every day. He played the piano for her, and she read him poems. They walked out by the Black Lake and enjoyed one another's company on multiple occasions. There was an unmistakable love for one another that could not be denied.

Two years later, they both received the shocking reality of arranged marriages. While Nathaniel might have been able to protest the situation, there was no point because Eliza would never be able to fight her parents on the issue. Both so settled in etiquette and meeting the expectations of society, they put on their best smiles and accepted that their fates would not bring them together. Nathaniel graduated, and watched Eliza Reid marry another man. He stayed in contact with her and with her new family up until his marriage in 1871 to Emelina Rose Hawk, a girl he had rarely spoken to given his regard for Eliza Reid. Before the marriage, Eliza told him she no longer wished to be his friend, for the pain of watching his marriage would be too great. That was the last time that Nathaniel spoke to Eliza Reid.

The years between his graduation from Hogwarts in 1866 and his marriage to Emelina almost six years later gave Nathaniel an introduction to the harsh realities of life and the success of hard work. Harsh reality came in the form of his sister Mary's death from what healers assumed to be a miscarriage. Mary had not been wed, being rather plain and having no prospects, and so her miscarriage was both a surprise and a disgrace to the family. Outside of the immediate family, they cited the cause of death as consumption, and made a rule not to speak about Mary. Nathaniel to this day has not told even his own wife about this secret, and is both ashamed and mournful of his sister, who was his good friend for so long a time.

Nathaniel, having been such a good student at Hogwarts, had no trouble getting work. Nathaniel became a healer, and dedicated himself most passionately to his work in order to keep himself from the troubling nature of his friendship with Miss Reid. Being a healer kept him fulfilled, and soon he was asked to sit on the board of various medical departments. At 21, Nathaniel was also given several properties as a part of his inheritance by his parents. Nathaniel soon became quite good at buying and selling properties as his father had done, and was able to not only earn a living but a decent living regardless of the fact that he came from such a wealthy family. By the time Nathaniel was married to Emelina his estate was rather large and he was quite a suitable husband.

Being married to Emelina was quite difficult, to say the least. Nathaniel fancied himself a reasonable man. However, Nathaniel was very strict in adhering to the rules of propriety and etiquette. His pride often got the better of him, though, and his often led to conflict between them. Since their courtship had been almost nonexistent, they had to learn about one another during marriage, and neither of them seemed to like the other very much. Nathaniel got frustrated by her. He grew tired quickly of living with someone he was not in love with, and upset that even when they did talk they could not find anything in common. She was much more headstrong and exuberant that he had expected her to be, and sometimes lacking in the etiquette that he expected her to have. Nathaniel, having his heart broken once, was too proud to let his heart open to Emelina so that she might hurt him as well. She was so headstrong that he found her capable of anything, really.

In 1877, Hogsmeade was founded and Nathaniel bought a large estate for them closer to the town. This came at the same time that Nathaniel was offered to direct Hogsmeade Hospital, a position he accepted immediately. If he was not to be in love, he wanted to thrive in others parts of his life, and that meant work. Soon after, Emelina requested a job, and he finally found her one that was respectable, as a secretary in an MoM office. Emelina's frequent pestering for an occupation, while he would not admit it, earned her some of Nathaniel's respect, because it proved she was more driven than he originally thought. Nathaniel takes work very seriously.
