MINISTRY STANDS BEHIND BLACK
MINISTRY OF MAGIC TO SUPPPORT HEADMASTER BLACK'S LATEST ANNOUNCEMENT |
Many were shockedthough pleasantly surprisedby recent crackdowns on student behaviour at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, issued in response to recent reports of female students behaving in a particularly unladylike fashion. In addition to more aggressive supervision and harsher penalties for rule-breaking, female students are no longer permitted to play quidditch and all students are now enrolled in a mandatory etiquette course, to be established at the school immediately. Though these moves have received some criticism since their announcement, the Ministry of Magic remain behind Headmaster Black in his decision.
"Headmaster Black is well within his rights to impose any restrictions that he likes on his students, provided they do not serve as a detriment to their education or to their well-being," Minister Darcy Potter, who himrelf only graduated recently from the school, began his statement yesterday afternoon. "That Hogwarts did not already have an etiquette program in place, I am sure, has puzzled its graduates for years. The fact that the entirety of the school's staff felt the need ___________________________ |
for these changes does, in my mind, speak volumes about the state of affairs."
That the Minister's sistera quidditch player, but otherwise generally well-received by the communitywas named during the Hogwarts Hussies scandal came as a shock to many, though Minister Potter denied his sister's involvement had anything to do with the official Ministry standpoint. "It is not about retribution, it is about improvement. These girls clearly did not receive an education appropriate to their needs, and so the school is now making amends for that."
When asked about the matter of quidditch, the Minister simply stated: "It is a shame that something that so many students have enjoyed has been taken away from them. Perhaps, once the school's behavioural problems have seen themselves reined in, females might be reintroduced to the sport with parental consent, though that is a matter of discussion for Headmaster Blackthe Ministry will take no stand on the subject."
