Charming is a Victorian Era Harry Potter roleplay set primarily in the village of Hogsmeade, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and the non-canon village of Irvingly. Characters of all classes, both magical and muggle — and even non-human! — are welcome.
With a member driven story line, monthly games and events, and a friendly and drama-free community focused on quality over quantity, the only thing you can be sure of is fun!
"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Cakes, whether for dessert or served with tea, should be dainty in appearance and full of flavor. A cake which is nothing but a bite of sugar is a failure, and surely will be viewed as a fault in any otherwise lovely occasion.
Three Cakes Sure to Please Cider cake is best baked in small loaves. One pound and a half of flour, half a pound of sugar, quarter of a pound of butter, half a pint of cider, one teaspoon of pearlash; spice to your taste. Bake till it turns easily in the pans — I should think about half an hour.
Fruit cake is delightful and attractive baked in rounds.
For fruit cake, take two and a half cups dried apples, stewed until soft; add one cup of sugar, stew a while longer, and chop the mixture, to which add one half cup of cold coffee, one of sugar, two eggs, a half cup of butter, one nutmeg, one teaspoonful of soda, and cinnamon and spices to taste. Sift in two cups flour to hold it together. Bake until easily turned out of the pan.
Delightful shrewsbury cakes can be achieved when you mix a pound of sugar, with two pounds of flour, and a large spoonful of pounded coriander seeds; sift them, add three quarters of a pound of melted butter, six eggs, and a gill of brandy; knead it well, roll it thin, cut it in shapes, and bake without discoloring it.
Overheard in Whizzhard Books! Our sources are always listening, and one of them has recently told us of a conversation overheard a few weeks ago in Hogsmeade's most popular bookstore!
Reportedly, Miss Darla Darling, an Upper Class Pureblood debutante who had her coming out this past season, said the following to widower Mr. Terell Malfoy: "Oh, thank you. You are ever so kind."
Naturally, our source was very curious! Mr. Malfoy's wife died several months ago after producing his heir, and clearly a man with such a young son should remarry as soon as possible, for the sake of his child! Just because he is still in mourning does not mean that he cannot meet a girl or two - and Miss Darling's comment would imply that a compliment was paid!
Miss Darling and Mr. Malfoy would make a very fine match indeed. And though Miss Darling is slender, she is less visibly delicate than the late Mrs. Isolde Malfoy, and so may be less likely to perish when producing Mr. Malfoy's child.
Regardless, it is all very interesting, is it not? Witch Weekly readers should pay attention to gossip, in case there is any further information! We'll certainly be keeping an eye out.
Miss Darla Darling, born August 14th, 1866, is a fashionable metamorphmagus from a good family.Mr. Terell Malfoy is not only a first son, but also the Head of the Department of Mysteries! An excellent prospect, in my opinion.
Daring Nerve and Chivalry: An Interview with Godric Slughorn. With the publication of 'Breaking Free', the exciting new romance novel penned by Illyria Valour, Witch Weekly has had the distinct honour of interviewing a real curse-breaker! A former Gryffindor, Mr. Godric Slughorn is twenty-six years old and unmarried, and has travelled the world through his work for Gringotts Bank. And, like his fictional counterpart who swept the icy Miss Emiliana Redgrave off her feet, Mr. Slughorn is rather charming indeed!
Mr. Godric Slughorn.
Mr. Slughorn, thank you so much for agreeing to speak with us! What was it that first drew you to your rather thrilling profession?
"The first appeal of Curse-breaking was the sheer adventure of it - no curse-breaking trip is ever quite the same!"
It must be terribly exciting, but aren't you ever scared? It is, after all, reportedly quite dangerous.
"Not much!" Eyes twinkling, Mr. Slughorn laughs. "Well, yes, of course I'm scared - but I've always been able to power through things like that."
'Curse-breaking has always been my dream'.
Would you ever consider changing careers?
"I don't think so. Curse-breaking has always been my dream, and I really do love it - besides, every little mission is so different that I could never get bored doing it, so I don't even know why I'd want to change."
What are your hobbies outside of your work, Mr. Slughorn?
"I enjoy both fencing and duelling immensely - and spending time with my several nieces and nephews, of course."
And you have so far remained unmarried, which is such a terrible shame....
Mr. Slughorn laughs again. "No, I'm afraid there's no Mrs. Godric Slughorn."
I am sure many of our readers would consider themselves quite fortunate to call themselves your wife. Do put them
out of their misery and tell us what exactly you might hope for in a bride!
"I'm not sure if I'm quite ready to marry, yet! But when I'm do, I do hope to find a wife who shares a sense of adventure."
Thank you so much for agreeing to speak to us, Mr. Slughorn, and please do stay safe!
"Thank you! It really was a pleasure to talk to you."
October is the month of Libras and Scorpios. The team of Witch Weekly was gathered some of the most notable October birthdays of our community!
Hippolyta Scamander
October 19th, 1860 - Libra
First of all, let’s wish Mrs. Scamander a very happy twenty-fifth birthday! Most of you know Mrs. Hippolyta Scamander as the wife of one of the candidates these past elections, Mr. Eugene Scamander. What many of you might not know is that Mrs. Scamander is a professional hippogriff breeder! Certainly a quite interesting occupation for a woman!
Edward Mohr
October 16th, 1857 - Libra
One of the most prominent Quidditch players of our generation, Mr. Mohr is the keeper and captain of the Appleby Arrows. He was also the second string keeper for our national team for the Quidditch World Cup, though he never actually got to play. Mr. Mohr is happily married to the beauty Threnody Mohr, with who he recently welcomed into the world his second son!
Katherina Selwyn
October 2nd, 1830 - Libra
The eldest daughter of the late William Lestrange, most of you might remember Mrs. Selwyn from the scandal surrounding her husband’s heir this summer. Her only son, Mr. Kimon Selwyn was practically passed over by his bastard brother! As our sources tell us, since then Mrs. Selwyn has retreated to the family’s country home in Norfolk. A wise decision, if you ask me!
Lucius Lestrange
October 17th, 1827 - Libra
The brother to the above, I’m sure that you’re all well acquainted with the current Lestrange patriarch. Mr. Lestrange had an interesting life so far, having travelled the world and worked several high positions within the ministry until his retirement in 1876. A family man, Mr. Lestrange has seen two married daughters and he was tragically left widowed earlier this year.
Prometheus Yaxley
October 12th, 1850 - Libra
Brother of the late Titan Yaxley and husband of said brother’s widow! I’m sure we were all shocked to find out about his and Mrs. Cecelia Yaxley’s marriage. No one knows what the motives behind that marriage were, but we at Witch Weekly all like to think that, as his new step daughter and niece said, is for the best.
