Appearance: Lillian inherited her mother’s vibrant red hair, a fact she disliked at first, but has come to enjoy. Her eyes are a striking, wide grayish blue, and her complexion very fair. She's 5"5', and rather lithe. She's right handed, and fairly useless with her left. She wears a mix of American fashions like her sister, but has been collecting British styles since arriving back in England (which she actually prefers). She prefers dresses without bustles, as she thinks they look quite stupid. The dresses are often in shades of blue or green. She speaks with more of a toned down Boston accent than a British one, but still says many words and phrases with her old accent.
History:
1863 |Lillian is born to Orla and Atticus Vane. She’s the third child, so there isn’t much fanfare when she comes into the world, but her flaming red hair inclined everyone to believe she’d take after her mother. She gives no one any rest in the home, as she’s a fussy baby. She doesn’t like to sleep through the night, and requires constant attention.
1865 | Ella is born, and Lillian is jealous of the sister. She’s caught attempting to pull the baby towards the stairs. However, she soon warms to Ella and doesn’t quite understand why the baby is so boring.
1867 | Lillian breaks her leg one winter while sledding with her siblings. The whole experience is rather traumatic for her, as nobody believed her leg was actually broken. It was mended straight away with magic but she is always quite resentful when she thinks back on it.
1868 | Alred is born! By this point she is actually excited about new children in the house. Plus, another ginger baby! However, she is devastated when Ace goes off to Hogwarts. But his experience really makes the dream of attending Hogwarts a reality.
1872 | Attica attends Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor like Ace. Lillian is insanely jealous. So jealous that she causes the runner on the stairs to curl upward like a tongue, knocking everything from the wall and giving their father a freight. It’s her first sign of magic. She was beginning to worry she was a squib.
1874 | It’s Lillian’s turn to attend Hogwarts! She’s already devastated when she tears her new robes on the way and has to have it fixed by a passing 7th year. However, her mood lightens quickly as she’s sorted into Gryffindor like her brother and sister. She immediately loves school.
1875 | Their mother passes away. Lillian is devastated, but tries not to show it. She becomes a little more rebellious, and she beings to dislike school.
1876 | Lillian’s favourite class is transfiguration. She enjoys watching things change form. She gets into trouble at school for turning a classmates ink well into a great black bird. She thought it was quite clever and beautiful, but it flew off with the classmate’s history essay and she was given detention.
1877 | Lillian develops a crush on a girl in Hufflepuff named Kathleen Simpson. At first she simply wants to be the girl’s friend. They become quite close and share secrets together. She loves the way Kath smiles, and the way she smells, and the way she pushes her hair back when nervous. Kathleen seems to detect that Lillian wants more. They are both unable to name what it is. Lillian kisses Kathleen one day and it gives her a fuzzy feeling and she’s so happy but Kathleen pulls her hair the next day and calls her names. Rumors are spread. Lillian definitely doesn’t like school now, and wishes she could be somewhere else.
1878 | Something goes awry at home and they are all pulled from Hogwarts and relocated to Boston. She’s not sure of the details, but she know her father messed up in some way. Lillian sees the whole thing as a second chance. She’s free of the rumours flying at Hogwarts – though they had died down a bit – and she’s able to start anew. Only… they’re not placed into an American magical school. Instead they are home schooled, a fact Lillian hates. She’s a social creature, and hates being shut in with her siblings all day long. Her brother becomes quite famous playing Quodpot and she’s constantly beginning him to take her out with him but of course it’s a lost cause.
1879 | Enter the Paxton family. Lillian is unsure about the whole arrangement. She especially feels for her sister, especially since Lillian finds the whole institution of marriage and expectations for women rather tedious. Lillian is resentful toward Ace for not being around the house more during this time. She’s annoyed with her little brother for… well… being too young to care. She vows to hate Alexandra, and spends most of this time shut up in her room or finding reasons to leave the house.
1880 | Her nephew is born. She’s pleased and more willing to love a baby now that she’s older, but she few useless around the house. She has her debut in American society. Shortly afterward is her first offer of marriage. A Mr. Hill enquires with her father but Lillian – panicked – goes behind his back and tells the man she’s planning to join a nunnery. Her father is furious, but resigned. This is the first time that Alexandra and Lillian develop a bit of a bond. Alexandra is amused with Lillian’s tactics and Lillian – feeling like she has an ally in the house – opens up to her. Alexandra wraps Lillian in her world, and soon Lillian tries opium for the first time. She loves the feeling of escape it brings.
1881 | Her father is too wrapped up in shady business to notice Lillian and Alexandra’s relationship growing. Alexandra keeps having miscarriages and Lillian feels badly for her. She knows, in the back of her mind, that she shouldn’t feel badly for Alexandra, but she finds she can’t help it. She realizes she’s attracted to the woman and one night, while they’re high on opium, Lillian kisses Alexandra. The kiss is returned and Alexandra promises to keep the whole thing between them. Another two men propose and Lillian and Alexandra find ways to turn them down.
1882 | Alexandra has her first child. Lillian is pleased, and helps her care for the baby. Another man proposes, George Dunn, a rather wealthy and kind man whose family owned numerous properties such as distilleries and plantations. Lillian is thinking of accepting. She thinks she might be happy with the man. However, Alexandra goes behind her back and turns down the offer. She also tells Atticus that the man is massively in debt, so Atticus agrees refusing is the best course of action. Lillian is furious with her father at first, before finding out about Alexandra’s involvement in the whole thing. Alexandra tells Lillian that it’s for the best. That she wouldn’t be happy with just any man. Lillian suspects Alexandra wants her to stay at home forever, to be with her.
1883 | Elias dies and Lillian can’t help but feel happy for her sister, even though it means she’s now a widow. She spends more time with her sister, but keeps her distance because she doesn’t want anyone to find out about the growing opium addiction she’s developed. She plays both sides with her sisters, as well. She’ll talk badly about Alexandra in front of them, so they don’t think she’s betrayed their family by liking the new step-mom. Though she suspects they know she’s lying, and this brings her great shame.
1884 | They move back to Britain, to Hogsmeade. Lillian has grown accustomed to life in America, and knows she will miss it. She’s worried her old school mates will remember what happened with Cecilia. She mostly keeps to herself, or is with Alexandra. She’s not really looking forward to her second debut, but she puts on an excited face for everyone. She’s not in love with Alexandra – she never will be – but she certainly desires her, and this is alarming for her.
1885 - 1886 | Lillian is attending socials with her sisters in tow, or is sometimes chaperoned by her younger brother. She enjoys attending the parties but is always worried someone will bring up the rumours from her time in Hogwarts.
She's since run into Kathleen at the hospital where Kathleen works (after an unfortunate doxy incident), but nothing came of it.
Lillian kissed a woman named Lenora at the midsummer's night performance while the pair were drugged with Amortentia from the punch. She's since met her again at Sanditon Resort for the sandcastle competition.
Lillian has made friends with Ophelia Dippet, whom she attended Hogwarts with. They've bonded over their shared experiences dropping out of Hogwarts, and their sense of mischief.
