Appearance:

Ben stands at a modest 5' 4" with a slender, willowy frame. He has wide, bright blue eyes and deep ginger hair that is nearly always disheveled from running his hands through it. He often has a healthy growth of stubble when he forgets to shave for a day or two. A light dusting of freckles covers his face and arms. Ben doesn't pay much attention to his clothes, because although he has become quite successful in his chosen profession he is still poor. He is right handed.

History:

1864 | Ben and Alfie are born, in that order.

1866 | Ben gets a little sister named Meg.

1868 | Lissy joins the family. Ben, a rambunctious child, is now old enough to be excited about it. Meanwhile, Harry begins working at the Big House as a stable boy.

1869 | Alfie catches a chill in November, and after a few weeks, dies of pneumonia. The two were nigh on inseparable and always playing together, and Ben feels the loss keenly. Formerly a bright, energetic child, he becomes more subdued and introverted after the loss of his twin.

1870 | Charlie goes off to Hogwarts.

1871 | Dee returns home with her OWLs, and becomes an apprentice midwife to Mama Spring. Charlie becomes Schrödinger's House Quidditch Player.

1873 | Jonny goes to Hogwarts.

1874 | Ben finally shows his first sign of magic -- the wall clock in the Spring cottage falls and shatters, and Ben repairs it just by thinking of it!

1876 | It's now Ben's turn to go to Hogwarts. It is a bittersweet day, as he wishes Alfie was still alive to make the journey with him, and he feels distinctly out of his element as he waits to be Sorted, despite the presence of several of his siblings around the Great Hall. The Hat considers placing him in Ravenclaw, but settles on Hufflepuff in the end. It is a difficult first few days, as Ben tends towards the quiet and unassuming, but soon makes friends with his roommates.

Jonny leaves Hogwarts with his OWLs and becomes an apprentice gardener under Papa Spring. Meanwhile, Dee marries a muggle watchmaker and sets up shop as a midwife in Harrogate.

1877 | Meg joins him at Hogwarts in Slytherin, and becomes a raging feminist. Ben is kind of scared of her.

1878 | It's time for Ben to choose his electives. He settles on Ancient Runes and Arithmancy, and enjoys them both immensely.

1879 | Lissy comes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw. Ben enjoys her overly cheerful presence, in his way.

1881 | Though he scores well on his OWLs, Ben decides not to return to school after his fifth year and instead starts apprenticing under Dee's husband, the watchmaker, in Harrogate. He proves to be something of a gearhead and loves to tinker, and turns out to be very good at what he does.

Meg also leaves Hogwarts, bouncing around for a while until she and some friends move to Hogsmeade.

1882 | Lissy is also forced to drop out of Hogwarts due to financial constraints, and she and her friend Paloma come to work in the shop. They bring a fresh energy to the shop, and though Lissy is sometimes rather too energetic for Ben, he still appreciates their presence.

1884 | Lissy and Paloma move to Hogsmeade, and Ben misses them almost immediately. He begins experimenting with charming his watches -- out of the view of muggles, of course -- and manages to work out how to make their faces change, among other aesthetic and practical effects that Ori will think of later.

1885 | Mr. Brewster, astonished at Ben's inventiveness, promotes him to a partner in the shop and tasks him with selling some of his enchanted watches in Hogsmeade every so often. Though Ben is not the best salesman, his work often speaks for itself and he is becoming quite successful! He dreams of earning enough money to move to Hogsmeade and open a little shop of his own there, but he knows he has a long way to go to make that happen.
