SILENCIO, MR. SKEETER!
LETTER TO THE EDITOR |
As a female who has partaken in the dueling tournaments on more than one occasion, I can say first hand that I have not been corrupted by dueling. Mr. Skeeter is quite ridiculous in his claims and needs a sharp reminder to return to reality at once. If the dueling tournaments are having any sort of adverse affect on the female population, it is only that they frustrate us with restrictions. Women, just like men, suffer from a competitive nature though it is only the ladies with poor sense of control and propriety who let it be known. A proper lady will not be so easily lead to violence by a brief spell in a tournament, no pun intended. By preventing women from using combative magic in _____________________________________________________________ |
the tournaments, ladies will be left out of practice and unable to defend themselves with their own wand should someone attack them. How many debutantes have to be claimed by this mysterious murderer before someone admits that had they had the appropriate practice at offense and defense, they might have survived? If men are worried that women are likely to show them up in a duel, then they ought to realize that by preventing us from fully participating, they are already admitting inferiority. If gentlemen are so afraid of our vulnerability, perhaps they might allow us to learn to protect ourselves so that we become less so. Or is that, perhaps, what they fear most of all? AUTHOR: MISS P. |
