Appearance:
Quote:Short-cropped, dark, messy hair that lightens in the summer. He is akin to a beanpole growing up and uncomfortably towers over his siblings at 5'6". He has a slight cleft chin and large ears. He loves suspenders rather than belts. He tries to wand with either hand, taking after his mother, but is ultimately right-handed.
History:
1871 | Important day(!) as it is the birth of Bartholomew Travers III.
1874 | Twins are born, Eldin and Gregory, magically in the evening. Breakfast was a hurried affair as Bart wished to meet his brothers. They look like wrinkled old men and smelled weird.
1876 | His father does something laudable with his work. Bart doesn't really get it, but is proud of his father all the same. During the summer, Bart performed his first act of magic though no one was more the wiser for it. One of their maids was busy replacing the flowers in the decorative vases. In an attempt to help, Bart found a room that she had not gotten to, attempted to remove the flowers from the vase using a chair, the tablecloth, and his wits, realized that he had no place to put the dying flowers, and, in his frustration, decided against picking them out after all. Just before he left the room, he checked to see what type of flowers he should gather from the gardens when he realized that the flowers were not dying at all and looked perfectly healthy.
1877 | Dolores is born on Christmas. Bart is fascinated with the thought of having a sister now. He doesn't much care for the holidays, preferring to keep to himself and away from the trouble-making twins than deal with all of the usual fuss of the holidays. Unfortunately, with her arrival, there would likely be more guests and relations he'd have to speak with. Another act of magic, unseen - he evades some of his relations through some sort of invisibility, returning in time for tea before his nanny had a fit searching for him.
1879 | There is general worry that Bart will not have magic though Bart is unconcerned about whether he will or not, spending more and more time outside in the garden and getting dirty when he was not in lessons.
1880 | Horatio is born! Bart spends more time "helping" in the kitchens in order to wrest away more food from cook. He's always hungry. His "first" act of magic is when he's caught with one of his father's books attempting to brew one of his tonics. Startled and worried that he'd get into trouble (since he had stolen some things to make the creation possible), he attempted to hide the tonic. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to clear everything away fast enough and the jars and components were found floating mid-air. The tonic was a mess. Fortunately, the surprise of his magical prowess (in the face of the resulting mess after everything dropped) meant clemency where he might have been in trouble otherwise.
1882 | Bart is thrilled to finally attend Hogwarts. He is not sorry to leave the twins behind, but does miss his other siblings. He is sorted into Slytherin. Finally he can learn something more than the magical scraps he found at home. Unfortunately his wand work is abysmal. Fortunately he seems to have a knack with all other subjects.
1883 | An aunt dies. Bart gives up his dreams of becoming a master duelist. He does wonder if one could make money that way though it's not in the cards for him.
1884 | The plague kills another aunt. Bart is affected - not because he thoroughly enjoyed her attention, but because he felt as though he could one day prevent the unnecessary death. Wand work is still awful. Maybe if he switched hands for this school year?
1885 | Another aunt dies. Bart has firmed his decision to no longer pursue any charm work beyond what was absolutely necessary (though he did return to spelling with his right hand) and desires to one day to make a fortune through a sort of cure all. He's more serious about his potions brewing and has a natural affinity for herbology and magical beasts and creatures course work. The latter two would be useful for combing components for his potions.

Quote:The chilly rain was a mixed blessing. It would encourage crop growth as they entered into the harvest season, but it would limit their visibility for the watch on the coastline. Things that were far from Isabella's mind as she tried to pen a letter. She tickled her lower lip with the end of the quill, considering the contents of the letter she'd received. It was a beautifully written thing on card-stock that was perfumed and entirely too expensive. But that was the sort of thing the Merchant-Prince could afford. Grandmaster, she reminded herself with a small smile.
A half-finished cup of tea sat on the corner of her desk, long forgotten and cold. Her fingers rubbed the letter, feeling the rich, thickness until she was interrupted by two soft taps. She opened her mouth to ask who sought entrance when the door sprung open. In walked a face, every bit determined and scarred by life and experience. So startled was she that the countess physically left her seat by a space of inches. Her letter dropped to her desk and her heart was caught up in her throat.
The deep guttural rumble of her name on his lips elicited a surprised exhale from hers, "Allenco." Her mouth was dry and she tried to calm her trembling at the sight of him. Having caught her so off-guard that she needed time to compose herself. Never had he barged in like this without warning. Having done so, he caught her at a most inopportune moment, exposed and vulnerable as she tried not to look down at the damning evidence of her attempting courtship with a king.
She saw all of the sleeplessness and pain on his person, but in her forbidden love for him she only saw the simple lines of a man whom she had once shared a tryst with. Isabella reached for her tea and sipped from it, grimacing when the chilled, over-steeped bitterness hit the back of her throat; she'd forgotten. Stilling her shaking hands, she rest the mug on top of her letters. Try as she might, it was a struggle to regain enough of herself to say, "What is the matter?"
