History:
- UN: Zoe was born just minutes before the new year, a month premature. Even if her parents had been upper class, the thing wouldn't be so scandalous, as they had been married for three years before conceiving Zoe. Madeline worked until the day she gave birth as a maid for one of the upper class homes. She had been middle class before her marriage to the eccentric Damien Pacquet, but her parents disowned her when she married down instead of up as they wanted for her. Madeline didn't care, however. She was happy with Damien, with whom she had been friendly with since their first year at school. Many considered the man insane, as he was hardly ever doing something that society would consider "acceptable" and he enjoyed tinkering around with things and playing the part of inventor as opposed to actually working and doing something acceptable for a living. Madeline enjoyed hard work though, and felt a sense of pride and success from working, so it seemed the two had a relatively decent agreement. It wasn't until Zoe's birth that Madeline realized how hard it would be to earn a living and play housewife and take care of a newborn. She sent her husband out in search of a job, and he landed a job as a freelance columnist at the largest newspaper in all of France. For the first time in the entire time they had known each other, Madeline was able to say she was proud of her husband.
- DEUX: When she was eleven, Zoe received her acceptance letter to Beauxbatons and promptly accepted. Although from a lower class family, she showed much promise and was awarded grants and scholarships to help pay for her schooling; she also caught the eye of a wealthy upper class woman who became Zoe's patron. All of Zoe's school things were hand me downs that her mother kept from when she went to school, or were purchased from a second hand shop. The only things that Zoe got new were her wand and her owl. Her patron offered to buy her all of her school things, but both Zoe and her parents declined. They are far from proud people, but more humble than anything. They didn't believe that a wealthy woman should be spending all of her money on school supplies for a child whom she hardly knew. Madeline and Damien had been saving all of their money for that particular day, the day their one and only daughter (and only child) would go off to school. They didn't want to be a burden on anyone else, and therefore used what they could to buy Zoe her school supplies. Unfettered by their attempts to sidestep her offer, Zoe's patron stepped in when Damien and Madeline didn't have the money to buy Zoe a proper wand or a pet of her choosing. The wand that chose her, willow with unicorn tail hair, was graceful and flexible, just like Zoe. She knew it was the perfect fit from the start, and left the wand shop to pick out a pet feeling elated and happier than she had ever been. The pet shop made Zoe's mouth drop in awe, as she had never been around so many beautiful and unique animals. It took a long time, but Zoe finally settled on a little owl whom she named Archimedes, from the English story of Arthur.
- TROIS: When Zoe graduated from Beauxbatons after attending for the full seven years, she didn't know what she wanted to do. Zoe was still just a lower class woman, despite her education. Sure, she had a patron who had helped pay for her school and who had supported her through everything she did, but that didn't help. There were a few key areas in which Zoe excelled, including caring for magical creatures, herbology and working with people who had been injured. Although naturally queasy, over her time in school, Zoe grew past her inability to look at people who had been injured because of her insatiable desire to help them. Despite her relatively good grades overall, and her excellent scores in the classes that could help her work at the hospital in Paris, Zoe could not obtain a job there. She assumed it was due to the fact she was a lower class woman, and as a lower class woman she could never be allowed to work with sick patients because she might be carrying some sort of disease herself. She understood and instead went off to try her hand at working with animals. Although she did an excellent job and bonded with all of the animals she worked with, the work she did wasn't anywhere near as soul satisfying as working with people and being able to converse with them and look after them. It took a year for it to happen, but eventually she went to work as a nanny for an upper class family instead. There she looked after a little boy and two little girls, honing in her ability to patch up bumps and bruises and cure aches, pains and fevers. She became an asset to the family almost immediately, and hoped she would be able to stay with the family for good.
- QUATRE: Christoph and Zoe met during a party the family she worked for was hosting. The Lefevre's needed Zoe late into the evening, until the children were fed and put to bed, and the matriarch offered Zoe a gown of hers and the ability to attend their gathering after the children had gone to bed. At first, Zoe graciously turned down the offer, but after pushing on Madame Lefevre's part, Zoe accepted. She put the children to bed and dressed in a beautiful gown of powder blue. When she walked into the party, she instantly caught the eye of a businessman who traveled to France quite often and did business with Monsieur Lefevre. Twenty three year old Christoph Harper fell for Zoe before he even knew what was happening. She was beautiful and he had a keen eye for beautiful things, but he also had a reputation for being flaky and loosing interest soon after starting a project. After moving his business to Paris only a few weeks later, Christoph and Zoe began to court. She managed to hold his attention for more than six months, which was a feat for anyone and anything regarding Christoph. His faithfulness nearly wavered when he found out nearly a year after they met that Zoe was not, in fact, upper class, but she was a lower class woman who was a nanny for the Lefevre family. After a long chat with Monsieur Lefevre, Christoph asked for Zoe's hand in marriage a year and a half after they first started courting. The wedding was two months later and the couple remained in Paris until Rachelle, the youngest Lefevre, was too old for a nanny (despite the fact that Zoe had officially become upper class with her marriage to Christoph, she had asked for his permission to remain the nanny to the Lefevre family until they no longer required her services). It was a sad day for all when Zoe left the Lefevre household, and an even sadder day when Zoe picked up and left home- leaving behind her mother, father and seven year old brother whom she looked after as though he were her own.
- CINQ: After their move to England, Christoph's original enthusiasm towards Zoe and their marriage waned. She had been cautiously optimistic that he would never lose interest in her, as he had chosen to marry her and not one of the other women he had courted before her, but it seemed that wasn't the case. And, to make matters worse, Zoe found this out around the same time she discovered she was pregnant. A strong woman, though one often mistaken for a pushover, Zoe felt completely lost. She went to speak with her former sister-in-law Julie, a woman who had become like an older sister for Zoe, about what to do. After much agonizing over the situation she was thrust into, Zoe eventually sat down and spoke with her husband. He threw the word "divorce" around more often than Zoe was comfortable with, but she patiently reminded him about what had happened when his older brother had divorced Julie, and the number of times he used the word decreased by half. She didn't want to have to use the baby and pregnancy (of which he didn't know) as leverage against Christoph, but at the end of an entire night of arguing, Zoe turned to her last resort. She explained she was four months along and that it was his child, as she had never committed adultery as he had, and the arguing came to a halt. For the sake of the child (and in order to stay out of the paper, which had seemed impossible after his brothers' divorce), the couple agreed to stay together. They would maintain the happy couple facade to the outside world, but each would be allowed to live whatever life he or she wanted inside their private home. They would cover for one another if need be and entered, more or less, into a business agreement for how the rest of their marriage would work.
