"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Mathias was the type of person who kept his friends close, but never had that many friends to begin with. Whether it was because others didn't care for him or because he didn't care for them, there were only a select few gentlemen who Mathias ever associated with.
Eyes pinned on the latest edition of The Daily Prophet, Mathias slowly turned the page. "How have you been since Christmastime, Mister Greengrass? Enjoying the warmer weather finally?" he asked, trying to keep his mind off the confusion that was brewing between the Pendergast-Lestranege clan and his family regarding the engagement ending between him and Miss Pendergast.
Someone had attempted to sabotage his relationship with his fiancee by sending a false letter signed in his name ending their engagement, and he'd returned to find that Miss Pendergast wanted nothing to do with him. Now he had to figure out some way to convince both his love and her mother that he hadn't sent the letter, nor that he had any intentions to end the relationship. He had a feeling it would be easier to convince Mrs Pendergast, his mother's friend, than it would be to convince his own fiancee, Miss Pendergast, who seemingly had emotional attachment issues.

Since his wife and daughter's death on July 17, 1887, Mathias has not left the home and refuses to take visitors. Letters can be sent to him for contact, but there's no guaranteeing he'll write back. He's not eating or sleeping regularly and refuses to leave his son's presence most of the day.
Theseus, despite his reservations about attending the Christmas celebrations at his wife's family's estate, had actually, for a change, enjoyed the company of someone other than a Lestrange. It was Mr. Mathias Beaumont. Their conversation that night led to the both of them keeping in touch and eventually to Black's where the Obliviator now sat across from the man.
He had always enjoyed a relaxing meeting, though few had ever remained so, and rather looked forward to meeting with Mr. Beaumont since their last chat. Theseus' friend pool was also pretty shallow, almost non-existent, so any company was welcome truly.
Upon ordering a drink, Theseus listened to Mathias' ice breaker and thought it weird for the man to be speaking about the weather, though it had been warmer so he supposed the topic was merited. "Oh yes, it's been quite nice. Tobin is thoroughly enjoying it as well and I can finally refrain from apparating to and from the manor - Mrs. Greengrass doesn't care for magical travel." He replied, figuring Valeria wouldn't mind if he shared such a minor fact. It wasn't like she and Mathias would be meeting anyways for him to mention something.

Mathias let out a soft chuckle in an attempt to distract himself from thinking about his broken engagement. "Ah yes, magical travel can be quite a pain for those who haven't mastered it. I didn't even want to think about apparating until I was at least twenty one ... or maybe it was twenty two," he said, shrugging his shoulders.
"I'm glad that it doesn't get incredibly heated there during the spring and summer months. I once took a trip to the southern United States of America during the summer—you can feel your face melting off," he said, offering Mister Greengrass a smile.

"Wow, I'm surprised you were able to last that long!" He answered with a smile, "Although I wish I could do so more frequently, apparating has to be the best thing I was ever introduced to." And it had been true; without it, Theseus may have slaughtered a few horses in the previous years based on the smells they exuded alone.
Theseus met his companion's smile with one of his own, imagining the other country as some foreign desert land. He never managed to venture down south himself, though welcomed the story as a means of caution. "That sounds dreadful, I couldn't imagine living in such an environment. Hopefully your adventures since have proven at least somewhat satisfactory."
