This was all quite fun and different. He was glad that he was able to attend though he wasn't going to stay terribly long. He'd have to get back to the shop for closing and he did try to constantly always be at hand. He supposed that was probably one of the reasons that he had been a Hufflepuff during his school days. There were all sorts of people at the races and it was proving to be a lovely time indeed.

Dorian had put in some money into the betting pool, more to help out the cause than any hope of actually winning anything. Heading towards the paddock, he regarded the majestic beasts in some admiration. "Lovely creatures, aren't they?" He asked of someone who had also approached the paddock just as he had.

As Roland liked to point out, he had personally been invited to the day’s races. Well, it had been mentioned as happening in a letter, but at least he was on a letter-writing basis with Mrs. Scamander!

Upon his arrival at Hogwarts, the Care of Magical Creatures professor had made it his business to know the local creature-folk, and as evidenced by the genuinely impressive hippogriffs they had on hand, the Scamanders certainly fell into that category. Not a betting man by any stretch, Roland had made a beeline for the paddock the moment he stepped onto the grounds of the house, and was not surprised to see that he was not the hippogriffs’ only admirer.

“Truly so!” Roland agreed brightly, though in truth, it was a sentiment he felt about most magical beasts—he probably could have found virtue in flobberworms if he looked hard enough. “I think that one—” he gestured to one of the leaner hippogriffs towards the center of the paddock, it’s plumage quite robust in spite of its smaller size “—is quite the specimen. I’m not a betting man, but I daresay she’d be a strong candidate upon which to wager.”
