It really was a wonder how the Backus family weren't all on the heftier side thanks to the delicious smells constantly wafting through the air of their bakery on High Street. Surely those smells would be what helped their business to do so well though as the smells surely reached the streets outside. Maggie, however, was apparently immune to the smells and never seemed to notice it. Whenever customers came inside raving about the delicious smells she was forced to simply nod and smile. Really, living above the bakery itself made a person grow rather accustom to it all.
When the front door opened and triggered the welcome bell, Maggie looked up from behind the display counter she was wiping down. She smiled, a somewhat genuine grin, at the gentleman entering the family shop as she tucked a stray strand of blonde hair behind her ear. She was oblivious to the smear of flour on her right cheek from having helped her father and brother earlier in the day. Mother would probably be rolling her eyes if she were there but she was out and about running errands for the shop, leaving Maggie to run the front alone.
"Afternoon," she greeted as the smell of the baking dinner loaves rushed out into the streets.
