Stubborn Love

It was good for him that she was so obviously joking, because Lou actually was still fairly nervous about how his conversation with Mr. Fisk would go. Not that the feeling of elation left much room for worry, but he didn't think it would be too hard to summon the nervousness back at the drop of a hat if he thought that Brannon Fisk might actually take some issue to his asking to pay court to his daughter. He was expecting a few gruff looks and probably a stern lecture about responsibility, or something of the sort, but all of that he could handle--and in fact it might have surprised him if Brannon Fisk hadn't done something of the sort. Actual rejection, on the other hand--well, he wasn't really one for love stories that ended in tragedy, but if his hand was forced, he probably would play Romeo for the sake of Miss Fisk, if her family tried to chase him away.

"For a kiss like that, I'd swim an ocean," he teased, squeezing her hands lightly. "But this is a nice jacket, so perhaps if it can be avoided I'll keep myself out of the pond, today. I ought to go talk to your father," he said, still too elated to properly feel the nerves that he knew were there. "But don't go anywhere. I'll be back in a flash--hopefully on the stairs," he joked, "But if you don't see me there, I suppose look for me in the pond."

Xena was significantly less nervous than Lou as he left the room- after all, she wasn’t doing the asking- but she was also certain her Papa would allow him. After all, the Jameshills were wealthy, they’d known them for years, Amity was her best friend- and most importantly, she loved him. Her Papa would never want her unhappy!

She stayed where she was bid for approximately three seconds before letting out a squeal of excitement as she realised that yes, this was really happening. Xena rushed from the room, resolving to inform the first family member, servant or pet that crossed her path of what was going on, before going to listen outside the study door.

He loved her, he really did!
