When Is Someone Truly Brave?

Her heart had clenched when she'd read Professor Sleptov's note that morning. It hadn't occured to her that lycanthropy would be something they'd cover in DADA. Perhaps if she'd made it a habit to look through her textbooks before embarking to Hogwarts, like Topaz used to do, she would have known.

Ruby liked to think that she was handling things well so far. She was resisting the urge to stay in bed every morning since returning to Hogwarts. She had also not gotten into any fights so far. And she had overheard some mean things about her family.

She wouldn't have considered to sit out the lycanthropy lectures hadn't her professor given her that possibility. It seemed sweetly tempting but, at the same time, Ruby didn't want to appear scared. She didn't want people to think that she was hiding away from the uncomfortable subject because she was ashamed of her twin sister!

If only Professor Sleptov could have given her more time to decide! She only had two hours before that class.

After breakfast concluded, Ruby located her sister. "Can I steal you away for a moment?" Ruby asked, giving an awkward glance at the friend her sister had been with. Miss Simpson gave them a nod and then left with the wave of students leaving the Great Hall.

Ruby handed her sister the note.
