    Orestes Lestrange
    #1
    In Character
    [Image: orestes-app.png]
    Full Name: Orestes Agamemnon Lestrange
Nicknames: Orie, although her only tolerates that from his siblings and aunts and uncles that are near his age.
    Birthdate: July 9, 1836
    Current Age: 48
Occupation: Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot
    Hogwarts House: Slytherin
    Wand:
Silver Lime | A particularly handsome wand wood, silver lime performs best for seers or those with a gift for Legilimency.
Dragon Heartstring | The core most easily turned towards the Dark Arts, it would not be a shock if every Lestrange had a wand with this core.
Thirteen Inches | Orestes is both tall and imposing in personality.
Rigid | Orestes does not change his views. There is no reason to do so, because his views are always right.
    Blood Status: Pureblood
    Social Class: Upper Class
    Family:
Klaus Lestrange, 1801-1875, father | Although he was not the best father, Orestes always looked up to him. His half-brother, Tybalt, killed Klaus along with twelve other Ministry employees in an effort to gain more dark magic power. Orestes was quite satisfied with the sentence recommended by his uncle, Lucius -- life in Azkaban -- even though he was asked not to sit in judgement in the case of his father's murder.

Silvia Lestrange née Turnbull, 1819, mother | Silvia married at the tender age of fifteen, just after completing her fifth year at Hogwarts, and gave birth to her first son just over a year later. While she never really loved her husband, she was used to his presence and she was left lost by her husband's death. It took several years for her to figure out how to live life without him.

Andromache Pettigrew née Lestrange, 1839, sister | Things seemed to be going well for Andromache. She married well and seemed to be happy with her husband. Unfortunately, he died after only two years; Andromache never remarried and fell to the middle class after her son squandered away his inheritance.

Arthur Pettigrew, 1859, nephew | Andromache's son is irresponsible at best. Orestes openly disapproves of the fact that he squandered away his inheritance and forced his mother to work for a living.

Priam Lestrange, 1844, brother | Since Priam is eight years younger than Orestes, they are not as close as they could be. Priam is on his second wife, and has both children and stepchildren.

Elda Lestrange née Hall, 1851, wife | Orestes married Elda in August of 1869, three months after she completed her education. Theirs is not a marriage of love and neither of them have any illusions to the contrary; rather, they married to join two wealthy pureblood families. They do, however, have an amicable (if less than perfectly faithful) relationship. So long as there are neither bastards nor scandal, Orestes does not particularly care if Elda takes lovers; he tends to take a new mistress on a whim, but politely keeps them out of his wife's sight.

Kristoffer Lestrange, 1871, son | Orestes was very pleased that the first child that Elda presented him, less than two years after their marriage, was a boy. Kristoffer was immediately spoiled and doted upon, and tends to throw fits when he does not get his way. He is entered Hogwarts in September of 1882 and was sorted into Slytherin. Betrothed to Magdalena Krum.

Frida Lestrange, 1873, daughter | Frida is a quiet child, often overshadowed by Kristoffer. While Orestes is not particularly interested in his daughters, Frida adores her father and will hear no ill about him. Betrothed to Kimon Selywn.

Gretchen Lestrange, 1874, daughter | Just over a year younger than Frida, Gretchen is very curious and constantly asking questions. Betrothed to Yarrow Macnair.

Meta Lestrange, 1876, daughter | Loud and demanding by nature, Meta gets more attention than any of her sisters (if not as much as her brothers) because she is simply better at demanding it. Betrothed to Meriweather Mulciber.

Klaus Lestrange II, 1879, son | When presented with a second son, Orestes named him after his late father. Klaus receives a great deal more attention than his sisters, but is not as spoiled as Kristoffer.

Hilda Lestrange, 1881, daughter | Orestes has very little interest in Hilda; after all, she's just another girl. Betrothed to Casimir Goyle.

Aric Lestrange, 1883, son | Orestes is glad to have a third son, but has determined Aric will be his final child.

There is the potential that Orestes has several bastards in the middle and lower class, but he does not acknowledge any of them and consistently claims any woman who tries to blame him for a bastard is simply trying to use a babe of unknown origin to her financial advantage.
Appearance: Orestes is tall and slim, just topping six feet. He has black hair that has yet to show any gray and he is frequently in possession neatly trimmed facial hair. He has green eyes which look bored more often than anything else, concealing his true thoughts and feelings. His long, thin nose is crooked, angling off to one side as though he once got punched in the face. Unfortunately that is not the case, but fortunately he has yet to pass his unfortunate proboscis on to any of his children. Always impeccably and simply dressed, Orestes cuts a respectable and mildly fashionable figure.

    History:
July 9, 1836 | Orestes Agamemnon Lestrange is born, the oldest child of Silvia and Klaus Lestrange. Silvia had only recently turned sixteen and was quite overwhelmed with being a mother.

1839 | Andromache joins the family. Orestes immediately decides he does not like her because she takes up too much of his mother's attention, although she does eventually grow on him.

1844 | Priam is born. At eight, Orestes is fascinated with the noisy pink bundle right up until he realizes that Priam might usurp his position with his father. He spends the next several years picking on his baby brother.

September 1, 1847 | Orestes begins his Hogwarts education. He is promptly sorted into Slytherin a year behind his uncle Tybalt; they would be joined a year later by Tybalt's sister Olivia. Orestes and Tybalt get along quite well, and before the year is up Orestes is closer to his uncle than he is to either of his siblings.

1851 | Orestes is awarded the prefect position for Slytherin. Although both he and Tybalt have an interest in the dark arts, he starts to feel that Tybalt is more interested than is healthy and the pair begin to drift apart.

1853 | After being passed over for Head Boy, Orestes spends the rest of the summer in a foul mood. When he discovers that he was passed over in favor of Jonathan Abbott (who had not even been a prefect), Orestes developed a special hatred for Mr. Abbott that would endure until the other's death.

May 31, 1854 | Orestes attends the Coming Out Ball for the girls in his year. Seeing as his father had already secured him an internship in the Department of Mysteries, he decided to enjoy himself that night. Orestes had been a model student, but that night he spotted a pretty lower class girl who had managed to complete her fifth year and went about seducing her. He met her in an empty classroom and proceeded to deflower her. His initiation into manhood was something of a matter of revenge on the Headmaster for passing him over for Head Boy, but he enjoyed it all the same and afterwards informed the girl that he never wanted to see her again and if she told anyone he would claim she had propositioned him. The girl was devastated and did not even stay for the rest of the ball.

1854 to 1871 | During his first year in the Department of Mysteries, Orestes spent a great deal of time studying Legilimency and Occulmency, though it took him several years to master the skills. After completing his internship, Orestes spent sixteen years working in the Department of Mysteries. Near the end of that time he married a young lady he chose because she was an heiress to a wealthy (if little known) family, Elda Hall. Shortly after Elda presented him with a son, Kristoffer, in 1871, Orestes "retired" from the Department of Mysteries and took up a position on the Wizengamot.

1873 to 1874 | To Orestes's disappointment, the next two children his wife presents him are both girls.

March 1875 | Tybalt, who Orestes had not seen frequently since his uncle left Hogwarts, came into the Ministry seeking a dark magic artifact and murdered thirteen employees. Orestes was shocked to discover that his father was among the dead.

August 19, 1875 | After a strenuous trial that Orestes had been asked to refrain from participating actively in, Tybalt was sentenced to life in Azkaban for the attack on the Ministry. His sentence was suggested by his own brother, Orestes's uncle Lucius.

1876 | Elda presents Orestes with a third daughter, much to his annoyance. He wants a second son as he is well aware there is always a chance that Kristoffer will die through accident or illness before reaching adulthood.

1877 | When magic is revealed to muggles, the Ministry explodes in activity. Even though he is a Wizengamot member and not an "active" member of the Ministry, Orestes is kept busy with working to clean up the mess, punish those responsible, and the Ministry's move to the new village of Hogsmeade. Since Orestes is busy at the Ministry, Elda and Silvia are left to manage the family's move to their new mansion in the district of Hogsmeade called Wellingtonshire.

1879 | Orestes finally receives a second son, whom he names Klaus II after his father. On May 3, his grandfather William Lestrange dies. Orestes is furious to find he has been left out of the will and murders a girl in the slums to vent his aggression.

1881 to 1882 | A fourth girl is presented to Orestes. His other grandfather passes away in the Ministry lift on September 8, 1881. This time he is expecting to be passed over in the will since Felix Turnbull is his mother's father. Therefore, when the paper announces that Orestes's second step-grandmother had emptied both the house and the vault of valuables and fled the country he finds it quite amusing. Orestes worked quickly to secure the position of Chief Warlock. As he settled in, he hired a secretary to help him -- a secretary who just happened to be his wife's most recent lover, unknown to Orestes.
Personality: Orestes is a very traditional man. He strongly believes that things are as they are because that is how they are supposed to be. He s\is dismissive towards women, although he does recognize the duty of men to care for women and sees it as shaming if a man in charge of the care of a woman (clearly defined as a father or brother before her marriage and her husband or son afterwards) should fail to do his duty. As such, he is disdainful of his nephew, who let Andromache fall to the middle class instead of caring for her properly. He would never allow his own mother to ever need to work, after all, and it is a point of no little anger and embarrassment that his own sister is forced to take employment as a governess.

He is also practical; when his grandfather died, he wasted no time in securing the position he vacated. He is not shy about using dark magic (suitably privately, of course) when he thinks it is the best way to achieve something. Orestes has very few scruples, and will always choose what is pragmatic over what is moral. Murder? So long as he won't get caught. Seduce nubile young virgins? Nothing wrong with that. He and his family come first, and the rights of the lower classes do not even rank on his list of priorities.

    Sample Roleplay Post:
It was not often that Orestes had Kristoffer -- or any of his children, for that matter -- in his sole care. It was not as though he was not capable of caring for a child; rather, it was because he did not care to do so. That was what staff was for, after all.

Today, however, Orestes had decided to take his eldest son out to do the last of his Hogwarts shopping. Not the boring parts like robes and books and potion ingredients. No, that had all been done with the staff earlier in the week. Orestes was taking his son for the two best parts of shopping for the first year of Hogwarts: a wand, and a pet.

Walking along High Street with his eldest boy, the Chief Warlock looked down at the boy indulgently. "Would you prefer to visit Ollivander's or the Beautiful Beast Boutique first?"
