Appearance:
- Ambrose is, by definition, tall, dark and handsome. And he knows it. Standing at six feet, which is unusually tall for the time period, he tends to tower over other men. His build is slender and lean, but most definitely well-built and sturdy. He certainly is no slouch. His hair is a rich brown, and is average length and always well-kept and styled. While he makes sure his hair is always impeccably kept, he does favour scruff, and has very impressive facial hair that he also keeps just as maintained as his hair. He is Caucasian, but not incredibly pale, and his eyes are a curious shade of dark greyish-blue, in contrast with his hair colour. One would describe them as piercing. As an upper class man of respect û and also of an obsessively neat and organized nature û he is always very well-dressed and ready to make a good impression, usually found in dress robes or some other upper class fashion for men. His right hand is his dominant hand.
History:
- Ambrose was born the first child of Ulliel and Florence Greengrass, on a rainy summer day in early July, 1850. As their first born, he was rather spoiled for the time that he was the only child û which was most of his earlier years. Being born to a pureblood, upper class family had it's privileges. He grew up being taught exactly how an upper class young man should behave, with proper social etiquette. Although, he never did enjoy any of the social gatherings that his family held or attended û he learned quite young that he much preferred solitude than large group events, and preferred his own company to that of others. This was a trait that stuck with him as he grew older.
Ambrose showed his first sign of magic at the age of six. His parents were throwing a get-together of fellow upper-class pureblood families, and his mother was trying to convince him to leave his room and socialize with the other children. Of course, he was having none of that. Just when Florence thought she had a firm enough grip on his hand to pull him out of solitude, the bottom of her dress was set ablaze, and Ambrose escaped. Initially she was infuriated at the idea that her dress was ruined, but that anger faded to joy at the fact that she and her husband had, in fact, produced a magical child. Of course, because they were pureblood there was never a doubt in their mind that Ambrose would not be magical, but it was comforting to have their worries quelled for good. Needless to say, Ambrose had to pay for ruining his mother's dress, and was forced to join the party after all.
When Ambrose was eight, his younger brother was brought into the world. At first, he did not like the idea of having a younger brother û but it turns out, it worked out for the best. At the time, Ambrose was nearing the age that he no longer felt he needed constant attention from his parents. After all, he did prefer his own company. So, he took advantage of his brother's birth taking up all of his parents' time. And began to spend a large amount of time in the library. Needless to say, he did not form an entirely close relationship with his brother until later on. His mind was constantly thirsty for knowledge, eager to learn how everything worked, and his curiosity would never be satiated until he came to an absolute conclusion. When he was a child, that meant never finishing a story until he reached the end, and continuing to ask questions if he did not understand the ending until he was satisfied that he received all the answers. This would prove quite useful in school.
As one could imagine, Ambrose received his Hogwarts letter at the end of his birth month, July of 1861. He received all of the best equipment of course, and even a cat as a familiar û a maine coon silver tabby by the name of Casper. He much preferred cats, because they, like he, were creatures of a solitary nature most of the time. He was very easily sorted into Ravenclaw, much to his own expectations û that only proved that his intelligence was as strong as he had always considered it. As per usual though, he did not make very many friends. Not because others did not want to be his friend, but because he did not care much for the friendship of others û in fact, he found it rather volatile and useless. Having friends would only distract him from his studies. He observed the lives of those around him who were corrupted by a life of constant social interactions, and determined that he much preferred the company of his own mind and books, for they were the only things that could challenge him. Of course, that was not to say that he would not have conversations with people who crossed his path, or would not greet his fellow classmates in passing. He was always very friendly if he had to be û he was always taught as such û but he never made it a personal mission to begin a conversation with anyone.
Women were an entirely different story. Ambrose knew that he was handsome, and therefore had expected young women to start fawning over him when hormones began to reveal themselves. However, unlike his fellow male students, Ambrose was unaffected. Oh, he found women very attractive, it was true, but he never found any desire in any kind of romantic relationship û just as he never found any desire in friendship. He allowed himself to flirt with women here and there, but while they might have got ideas and developed feelings, he never allowed himself to get attached to anyone. He simply didn't need to. Relationships were just another distraction he never saw any potential in.
As per his own standards, Ambrose did very well in school. He focused fully on his studies, and made sure he understood every bit of subject matter in as much detail as he could. His perfectionist and introverted personality allowed him to excel, when others might have been distracted by a social life. He did become Prefect for both his sixth and seventh years, mostly due to his impeccable organizational skills and high academic standing. He suffered through the social aspects of it, purely because it was quite an honor to be named Prefect, in his opinion. He did swimmingly on both his OWLs and NEWTs, as he had expected, and graduated Hogwarts in the top of his class in the year 1868.
Due to his academic standing, as well as his class and family status, Ambrose was granted employment with the ministry not long after he graduated, originally in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, as an intern. He showed quite a lot of potential within his first few months of working there, and was soon promoted to Investigator in the Improper Use of Magic Office. His natural ability to detach and come to logical conclusions quickly, coupled with his surprising amount of wit that he had been withholding all the years he spent alone, made him quite good at his job. He stayed within that department for a fair amount of time.
It was at the Coming Out ball in the summer of 1874 that he met her û Benilda Flint. She was the first woman to ever leave him utterly speechless. She had just graduated Hogwarts and became a debutante, ready to be swept off into marriage. Being from a family of status and still forced to attend social gatherings, especially as a Ministry employee, Ambrose knew of the Flint family. They were also of wealth and upper class status, so naturally she would be a perfect candidate for courtship. It was mind-boggling that he was even considering courtship, given his usual attitude towards the idea of a relationship of the romantic sort, but something about Benilda was too alluring to ignore. For the first time in a long time, he was the first to introduce himself, and asked for the honor of sharing a dance. Not long after the Coming Out Ball û she had been on his mind the entire time afterward, and kept in contact with her via letters on a semi-regular basis û he asked for permission to court her. Being a man of wealth, status and with a very stable job to support her, permission had been granted.
Needless to say, throughout their courtship he began falling in love with her. These were feelings that Ambrose had never thought he would feel, and he was not entirely sure how to handle them at the time. Their personalities made for quite the intriguing dynamic, which meant that he was never bored with her company. He found himself distracted by the thought of her quite frequently, and it was maddening. But, there was no chance he was going to give her up to some undeserving scum. No, she deserved the world, and he would give it to her. He was simply going to have to deal with his new-found distraction. But he did more than deal with it û he actually came to enjoy it, and found it a challenge. A challenge that he never wanted to go without. By February of 1875, he made sure she knew that. The two were wed that month, and an entirely new adventure began.
The same month of their wedding, everything seemed to be going swimmingly. Ambrose even received a promotion to Obliviator within the Department of Magical Law Enforcement û yet another position that his ability to detach from a situation came in handy. Indeed, his life seemed to be going exactly in the direction he had always imagined û with the unexpected twists and turns of falling in love, and marriage. Their marriage was indeed a happy one though. Everything about Benilda, he loved entirely. Of course, he was not used to relationships, and often could say or do the wrong thing, but he always made it his mission to make the situation right after. Turned out, his obsessive-compulsive need for perfection could actual prove useful when planning grand romantic gestures.
In the early half of 1876, their first son by the name of Bertram was born. The idea of being a father already was only slightly mortifying, but regardless of his detached personality and skepticism, he learned quickly that he was just as good a father as his own had been. Detaching one's self from work or friendship was one thing, but the bond a father had with his children was something else entirely, and it had taken him quite by surprise. It seemed as though the family bug had spread, because one year later their second son, Mordecai, was born. 1877 was also the year that the family had to move to Hogsmeade, due to the Muggle discovery of their race. It was a crazy time at work for Ambrose as well, given all of the adjustments that had to be made and memories that had to be obliviated.
In 1881, Benilda gave birth to their very first daughter, Elvira. Having two sons had been quite lucky, because Ambrose knew how to handle boys. Having a little girl was an entirely different challenge, but one that he welcomed with open arms. Just like he had with her mother, Ambrose swore the moment he set eyes on Elvira that she would have nothing but the best the world could give her, and that was that. 1881 was yet another big year for Ambrose, as he had done so well in all of his previous positions within the Ministry, that he was promoted yet again û this time to a position far more substantial. A position that he had been working toward since he first set foot in the Ministry û Senior Undersecretary to the Minister. He was appointed this position in the wake of the election of Darcy Potter. Change was occurring in the Ministry, and he took full advantage. Next step û Minister.
His job keeps him busy, but he always ensures that he has time for his family. Quite the contrary to what he had always thought growing up, he turned out to be quite family oriented. He deeply cares for and loved all of his children whole-heartedly, and is madly in love with his wife. Life really is surprising, to say the least.
Personality:
- INTJ.
Ambrose has always been extremely introverted. He never was one for friendships, and still is not to this day. Even as a child, he found the company of others useless and dull, and much preferred his own company. Or the company of books. He spent quite a lot of time reading as a child, expanding his mind. Being an independent thinker, he always had an incredible curiosity about the world around him, and how everything worked. In addition he is a very focused individual û once he sets to work on a task, he will not stop until it is brought to fruition. This almost makes him a perfectionist to an obsessive degree. If something is not right or out of place, he has to fix it. This lead to incredible organizational skills, and altogether, all of these traits lead to a brilliant mind.
He did exceptionally well in school, being very academically inclined. He had no cosial life to distract him during his Hogwarts days, unless he was being forced to attend some kind of meeting or social gathering. But even then, he was focused on other things rather than engaging in mindless prattle. He exceled on his OWLs and NEWTs, which eventually lead to his employment within the Ministry, who sought out wizards like him û wizards who could detach from and correctly analyze almost every situation fairly easily.
He also has an air of arrogance about him û he knows he is exceptional, and has been told as such frequently. Why shouldn't he be aware of his attractiveness, or his intelligence? Women fawned all over him in school as he grew into his stature and handsome looks, and he let them. In his opinion, people who do not love themselves cannot possibly love someone else, if they were so inclined to. Of course, he never had any inclination to fall in love with anyone, but the principle still remained. Those who could not take a compliment, or tried to deny their beauty or any other excellent traits they may have, were simply living a life of denial, and therefore an unhappy one.
It came as quite a shock to him when he did fall in love, having never been inclined to have any sort of romantic relationship. In fact, for much of his life he thought it rather silly to get so emotionally detached to someone û they would only serve to distract you from your higher purpose. That was, until he laid eyes on his wife. No woman that had batted her eyes at him before had ever had such an effect on him. He was instantly drawn to her, and she proved to be quite a challenge for him. It was difficult for him to come to terms with û he wanted nothing more than to court her, and she was always on his mind. She had become the distraction that he had never expected, but that he never wanted to go away. It turns out that he is more romantically inclined than he had thought. The only time that he is not as introverted and detached as usual, is around Benilda and his children. They bring out the family man within him.
