Appearance:

Grania stands at a modest 4’11” in height and possesses a fine build. Her hair is brilliantly red and her eyes are a bright sky blue. She possesses far more freckles than she thinks any one person should have. She loves wearing greens and blues. Nia is right handed.

History:

1868 — Grania Neasa Taylor is born in January; in December, she is followed by Muireann Rós Taylor in December.

1871 — Octavius dies. At three, Nia doesn't understand what has happened to her Da.

1873 — Sib goes off to Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw.

1875 — Faolain remarries to Farrell Sheehan. At seven, Nia is again faced with a situation she simply does not understand: the surnames of herself and her sisters is changed from Taylor to Sheehan. She knows this seems odd, but does not realize that society will consider it to be an insult to her father. Almost immediately after the wedding, the family loses everything; used to a comfortable (if not luxurious) life, Nia spends several months in utter shock about their new situation. They are barely well enough off that, with the help of what scholarships the girls can earn, the girls will be able to be educated. That fall, Cally goes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw as well.

1877 — Siobhan is chosen as a prefect. Nora begins her education and is sorted into Slytherin.

1878 — When Aislinn begins her education she is sorted into Gryffindor.

1879 — Nia joins Nora in Slytherin.

1880 — Sib graduates from Hogwarts and takes a job (wasting her test scores, as far as Nia is concerned) as a waitress at Rosa Lee Teabag. Muireann is sorted into Gryffindor. Grania learns she has earned a full scholarship.

1881 — For her third year, Nia chooses only one elective: Arithmancy. An offer from an old school friend lands Siobhan a job as Manager of Whizzhard Books.

1882 — When the Ministry sends people off to explore for a way to expand Hogsmeade, all the Sheehan girls are supposed to be safe. However, someone adds women to the draft and both Siobhan and Cally are chosen to go. This helps Sib secure a proposal from Bennet Potter (who is upper class and his father’s heir!), but Calumina is pulled out of her last month at Hogwarts. Four days after she is supposed to graduate, Cally dies on the trail. Her sister’s death gets Grania to thinking about her father; she begins to feel incredibly guilty about her name being changed to Sheehan.

That isn’t the last tragedy to strike the Sheehan family, either. The amazing engagement that Sib has secured is broken when Mr. Potter’s father dies. Sib goes a little crazy, in Nia’s opinion, and leaves her job and runs off to Ireland to try to reconnect with their upper class grandparents in the hopes of renewing her relationship with Mr. Potter. Shortly after Nora begins courting a middle class boy (despite them both being in school and him in her year). Siobhan returns in September with enough money to build two houses in Irvingly and a book store for herself. Nia is shocked by this development. Over Christmas she sees her new, warm room for the first time (and discovers it is just hers) and cannot quite believe that it’s real.

1883 — Nora ends her courtship in the spring. Grania is disappointed that she is not chosen as prefect. Intending to take Alchemy the next year, she is ecstatic to find when she arrives at school in September that Professor Valenduris has been replaced by none other than Nicolas Flamel. In November, Siobhan marries a middle class man named Thomas Blotts.

1884 — When Mathilda Prince loses her prefect badge, Grania sees it as an opportunity; she has high hopes that she might earn the badge for her last two years.

Personality:

An ambitious girl, Nia wants to become a healer. That is not all; as well as being able to support herself comfortably, Grania hopes that during her internship or while working as a healer she will be able to find a husband who will properly raise her to the middle class. As a result, she is something of a control freak; she does not like it when her siblings act in a way that does not fit in with her plans. Not that any of them listen to her, but she tries; she finds it most effective with Murieann. She is also something of a realist and still can’t quite believe the house in Irvingly, especially after only spending one Christmas and one summer there. She keeps expecting her grandparents to take it away, but she does very much enjoy having her own room.

"No," Nia answered. "I can't vote and I have a scholarship, so I think I'll probably study instead."

She had joined several clubs because she thought it might look good later on, but most of her focus was on her coursework. She intended to become prefect, maybe even head girl, and then a healer. She was going to be able to support herself comfortably even if she never married. "What about you? Are you going? It's not like you need a scholarship."
