Stealing was something that wasn't within Samantha's nature, but when the time came close to a new school year her family often lacked the money to purchase all the school supplies for the children. She was surviving off a scholarship, but it didn't pay for everything she needed for her classes. Being a part of the lower class, she'd seen her fair share of thieves and had an idea of how to get away with such a crime.

The light-haired teen glanced around the edges of the shelves in the book store, looking for any sign of people who might be looking. She stood in the textbook section, her gaze set on a quite expensive Transfiguration book that she planned on reading for her NEWT classes once she found out that she passed. She carefully slipped the book off the shelf and held it carefully as if she was just looking.

After a few moments, she carefully slipped the small, yet thick book into one of the deep pockets of her plain dress, looking around to see if anyone had noticed. She didn't see anyone there, but she couldn't be positive because of all the openings in the shelves around her. If someone were to catch her, she'd claim that she was holding it there so she wouldn't forget it on one of the tables—clever enough, right?

Tristan had been looking for something to take his mind off of all the chaos that was going on in Hogsmeade. He'd been stuck in Hogsmeade thanks to the quarantine but it wasn't as if he really had anywhere else to go, So trying to find a way to get ride of the boredom and take some time to himself Tristan had wandered into the Bookstore on high street, luckily it hadn't burned down like so many other things in town.

He'd just pulled a book off a shelf when he vaguely recognized a girl from Hogwarts on the other side of the wall of books. Looking through the now vacant space where his book had just been he was able to see her pull a book of her own of the shelf and then.. and then place the book into her pocket? Tristan blinked a few times in disbelief at the thought of some one stealing a book. He wasn't a Ravenclaw who had a deep passion for the integrity of Literature, but he was a Gryffindor and the thought of stealing went against his nature. And thought he wasn't wearing his badge right now he was also a perfect. He simply could not stand by as an innocent observer while this girl ran of without paying for her book.

Though on the other hand... perhaps he'd misread the situation. Rounding the corner of the bookshelves he cleared his through as he glared at the girl with a disapproving stare. But Tristan figured he owed the girl a chance to explain herself before he decided what to do, these where trying times after all.

Out of the corner of her left eye, Samantha spotted the dark hair of a taller man. Freezing, she dropped the book in her pocket innocently. He'd caught her, and she knew it. As a Ravenclaw, she was clever and smart, so she knew she could figure a way out of this situation. She looked small and innocent enough, and because she had a certain charm about her, she believed that she could get the boy to believe her.

Innocently, Samantha grabbed two more smaller books off the shelves, putting them both in her pocket, before grabbing three more and holding them in her arms. She carried them to a small table that stood not too far from the taller boy before setting them down on the table. Afterwards, she pulled the books out of her pockets and laid them out in three neat piles, as if she was about to look through them all. It looked innocent enough to be carrying books in your pocket because you didn't have enough room in your hand, right?

His eyes narrowed, watching the girl intently as he saw her grab an arm full of books and head towards a table. It was an innocent enough action but there was just something in the way she moved, almost as if he'd caught her off guard and shed had to change plans all of a sudden.

He shifted his weight from one foot to the other as he coked an eye brow trying to figure out what that nagging feeling in the back of his mind was. Tristan was smart but he'd never really been crafty. He was a little too honest at times and had never been much of a prankster so assuming the worst of some one was a little hard for him. However, he'd been a perfect for over a year now and thought he'd never been very strict in enforcing the rules and doling out punishments he'd started to develop a sense for when was awry.

Tristan took a step towards the girl, he wasn't about to accuse her based just on a feeling - that would be rather uncivil of him- but he had noticed that the books she'd grabbed were all of a different subject and he only recognized one on transfiguration as being on the reading list for Hogwarts.

"Thats quite a lot of books, you've got there" He said forcing a smile. " Are they all for a class or something" He asked assuming she was a student. He wasn't really sure but he thought he recognized her as being a yearmate from a different house.

Samantha looked up at the prefect she recognized as one of the Gryffindor students from her year, but she was unaware of what his name actually was. She gave him a calm smile, acting as if nothing wrong had even happened and with a lack of a guilty expression on her face. She gestured down to the books, nodding her head. "Yes, I do plan to read some of these for school, but I'm having to choose because of my low budget," she explained, tapping on the table with her fingertips.

"Most of them aren't assigned readings, but because I'm going into NEWT classes, it always helps to have a little bit of background knowledge on the subject," she said, picking up one of the potions books to 'examine' it. "Have you read this before?" she asked, holding it out to him.

He took the book from her outstretched hand but as he did so his eyes only darted down to the cover for a moment before they fell upon the girl again.

" I've never really been for potions" Tristan said dismissively, paying very little attention to the book. Of course he wanted to be an Auror so he'd taken the time to make sure he did well in his classes but he'd never really had much of a fondness for potions class.

"You know, there is a whole library full of books back at the school, likely it would have all the titles you are interested in" He said in a matter of fact way. He'd never lacked money for school supplies, or really anything. But he did know the library filled from floor to celling with stuffy old books.
