Event Ideas!

Do You Have an Idea? Sometimes months are sparser than others; other times we have tons of events, but they're all so similar (balls come to mind xD). The staff are always looking for new ideas, so please post here if you have suggestions for... A one-off event (carnival, dance, flower show, etc.) that appeals to the middle and/or lower classes, or to non-humans. A mini boardwide event such as the snowstorm and spiked tea we've had in the past. A major boardwide plot that affects characters from all classes and at least three usergroups. The staff will pop in here every time we feel more inspiration is needed—and there might be board contribution stamps on the table for those whose ideas are used!

I would really like broomstick jousting. >D

This is how I imagine it going but obviously it's flexible:

>> Excalibur challenges one of the other men's clubs to a TOURNEY (lbr it has to be Excalbur who starts it)
>> Men sign up
>> The event becomes widely publicized to bring in as many spectators as possible
>> The other men's clubs get in on it because they don't want to miss out on publicity
>> A "Charity Bracket" could be added if desired for LC citizens/men who aren't in clubs
>> A jousting run is erected with stands in Padmore Park (or on the Quidditch Pitch from the QWC maybe?)
>> Staff do some rolls and fill out the "bracket" of who wins jousts against whom
>> The event forum can be used for anyone who wants to thread their joust (including potential injuries), spectators, concession runs, what have you.
EDIT: OH YES there should also be prizes for winners, sponsored by the different participating clubs.

Probably using conjured javelins as opposed to actual javelins, because then there's a slightly higher bar for magical skill and a slightly lower possibility of grave bodily harm.

We could also thread the jousts like we do duels if people want to do that. :)

one legit non-combative jousting thing was charging at full speed with a lance and trying to catch as many
tiny hoops on it as possible- with magic they could obviously be moving or semi invisible or something if there was a less "plz no broken ribs" class thing.

or you do it like laser tag- how they actually did it with more points for hitting the chest than other parts of the body, points for unseating someone, with lances designed to disolve on impart or something

Inspired by my reading of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell:

> Servants' Balls were a thing and we should have one in the Hogsmeade Hall. I don't think I have a character who would sponsor one. :/

Lord Castlereagh's valet was a notable member; the Duke of Portland's Coachman was another and so was Stephen. They met upon the third Tuesday of every month and enjoyed the same pleasures as the members of any other London club--they drank and ate, gambled, talked politics and gossiped about their mistresses."

I don't have anyone who would be "the grander sort of male servant" but I feel like this should be a thing, for upper servants/shop managers/Ministry employees of the lower class, meeting once or twice a month in either the Hogsmeade Hall or maybe a room in the Irvingly Casino. Then we can use that club as a jumping off point for all sorts of events that they could arrange/host/whatever for the LC, like picnics and sporting matches and the aforementioned servants' balls. I feel like maybe it could be a club without membership dues per ce (or very minimal ones at any rate), but maybe a lower age limit and a "you have to know someone who invited you" sort of thing to keep it respectable?

I realize this last thing is more of a plottage type thing than a specific event suggestion, but I feel like we don't have enough LC men running around for it to really take off without staff stewardship, at least at first. =P

I have a vague idea for a mini-board wide plot! At least I think it's more that than anything else since it would be more involved than a one-off event, but I'm not really sure it'd be accessible for all types of characters without some finagling so /shrug

- [insert dangerous magical creature] is loose in the forest/area around Hogsmeade or Irvingly
- there can be a few pop-up events for attacks/news articles about missing dogs or what have you depending on what the creature is
- town hall meeting about what to do about said creature
- maybe a hunting party or something? IDK, it'd have to be something that wouldn't just be easily conquered by the DRCMC in an afternoon or else that's no fun. =P
- beast is killed and then (either because of size or because of some other magical consideration), its corpse loiters around a bit and is difficult to remove
- town hall meeting about how to get rid of the stinky dragon corpse (or whatever)
- End this with a Exploding Whale style event where someone makes a very ill-fated attempt to remove the corpse and rains blood/guts/acidic blood/etc down on the town of Hogsmeade

• Circus or is that too soon after the flying tigers? Drama - One-off event
  
• Magical bug infestation? Like, some kind of bug that causes some sort of chaos that infects Hogsmeade/Irvingly (or London if we want to really get dramatic). - Mini boardwide event
  
• Another plague? mainly due to Kelly feeling left out from not knowing about this site when the other one occurred XD - Major boardwide event
  
• Magical rampage from the forest? So much upset from all of the non-human haters that a ton of NPCs start causing havoc out of anger and spite? Distruction, possible deaths even, occur? - Mini/Major boardwide event
  

  

[Ophelia Dippet]

I was thinking about Edgar Allen Poe's The Masque of the Red Death yesterday and I feel like we could turn that into a Charming event. ;)

- big party with lots of important people
- uninvited guest shows up with a ... cursed artifact? infectious magical disease? pocket magical creature with dangerous venom? you know, pick your flavor of catastrophe
- guests at random could be struck with symptoms that gradually get worse as time goes on. Something fun and magical, like having all your muscle slowly turned to stone (that's a real thing and is far from magical) or a sickness where you progressively sleep less and less because you have magical insomnia (also a real thing because life is terrifying)
- relevant healers & Ministry workers race to figure out what happened, what caused it, and how to cure/reverse it
- affected characters can either recover entirely or have some lingering issues. Or die. That's the Lynn-approved choice. ;)

People accidentally consume a drink/food (or maybe it's a sort of magical bug? idk) that makes people ramble about their secrets that they wouldn't freely share with strangers/family members. Could stir up some plots or drama!
