"Are you always this forward?" He asked teasingly since it would be a very short thread if he just ignored her entirely. — Tobin Cartwright in Take A Peek
Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Open to Roses! Bonus points if they're friends/friendly with Ellory. xD
Someone had sent Tig a box full of dead animals. How could people be so savage? Tig was the obvious victim of the fight with Ellory, and there were still some idiots who blamed her for it! Couldn't they just leave her alone? The poor darling had been forced to breathe out fish! Her nose had bled! She'd suffered enough!
Brynn was sure that the culprit was one of Ellory Pendergast's friends. Or, at least, that's what Tig had said so Brynn thought so too. She had now taken it upon herself to find who this culprit was and... bitchslap them, or something. She hadn't figured out what yet.
That afternoon she'd found herself in the parlour along with some other Roses. Some of them being Ellory Pendergast's friends. Or at least Brynn thought they were. She couldn't know, it wasn't like she and Pendergast were bosom buddies and had the same friends.
"Someone sent my dearest friend, Mrs. Antigone Lestrange, a box of dead animals. Isn't it terrible? Who could be so savage to do this monstrocity?" Brynn very casually said. She waited for the Roses' reactions. If the culprit was among them, she'd know. Because she felt like fucking Sherlock Holmes.
Brighid was definitely not the most social of Roses. She much preferred to hang out in her room with Shalott or find Ellory or Mara to bother, but poor Ellory was having enough of a time right now without dealing with, well everything, without Bri's constant whining. That whole ordeal had set Bri's teeth on edge and prompted a little theft of potions ingredients and some clever charms. She was rather proud of herself really.
So without anybody to harass at the moment, she'd found a rare desire to adventure to the parlor, though would probably regret this decision shortly.
Or not.
Bri had been minding her own business, staring out the window, a half-finished sketch in her lap, when Miss Malfoy decided to add her noise to the room. The grin that spread across her features was wicked and probably incriminating. Brighid had in fact, been the one to send the dead frogs and annoying box and frankly, she really didn't give a damn if people knew. "Everybody tells me to blame the red hair." She said casually, barely glancing in Malfoy's direction.
It didn't even take a thorough investigation to discover the culprit. She practically gave herself away! Only a friend of Ellory Pendergast would be so stupid. They really ought to read some kind of book called 'How To Get Away With Murder Rule Breaking Behaviour'. 'Don't start a fight in public' and 'Don't confess of sending people dead animals' would be the first two chapters of the book!
She was going to pull that stupid red hair of hers until she was bald! Or, at least, she imagined herself doing so in her head.
"Miss Connolly!" Brynn said sternly. "Is this a confession?"
She probably shouldn't have said anything, but what was the worst that could happen? Would they expel her? Nothing would make her happier. Bri highly doubted that Miss Malfoy was going to do anything drastic, she didn't seem like that type, but she did seem like a tattletale, at least to the redhead. Still, she really didn't care one way or another.
Brighid nearly rolled her eyes so forcefully it was a miracle they didn't stay like that. Setting her sketching supplies down in her lap, Bri turned a raised eyebrow on Miss Malfoy as if she had just said one of the most ridiculous things Bri had ever heard. "I'm sorry, did I stutter?" Apparently Miss Malfoy was hard of hearing.
All Mariah was looking for some peace and quiet, but given the recent events that had occurred, she knew that she'd get nothing of the sort. Brighid had devised up a brilliant plan to get back at Lestrange – genius really. That girl was bad news, and as much as Mariah hated to get herself involved in drama (she got enough of her fair share at home), she couldn't help but slip in her contribution to the gift the horrible woman was to receive.
If only they'd seen her reaction. Mariah would have paid more to have been a fly on the wall. She vaguely wondered how much trouble they'd get in for that, but in truth, she never really thought they'd get caught.
Until now.
Mariah thought they'd just admit innocence to the crime. So, it was with a sort of morbid curiosity and baited breath that she watched the exchange between Malfoy and Brighid, half terrified and half elated that the redhead would be so bold as to outright admit it.
Brynn's mouth gaped open for a bit. Miss Connolly had confessed - just like that! Why had she even bothered making her letter anonymous if she was going to so easily admit to her crime? Unless Ellory Pendergast had actually send the frogs, and now the redhead was lying to protect her? Either way, Brynn could not understand why Pendergast would inspire such devotion into the girl.
"You little beast!" Brynn finally lashed out. She jumped off her seat. "You have made me so angry that I wish I could slap you, but I daresay I am not a beast like you and your little friend Pendergast!"
It was hard not to laugh at the shock on Malfoy's face. She looked like a goldfish with her mouth hanging open like that. Mariah made no efforts to mask her amusement.
At first she was content to just watch the exchange with interest, but the beast comment struck a nerve with her. She shut her book and rolled her eyes. "Don't you think that's a bit rich coming from a girl whose friend thought to turn another innocent girl into a pig?" she pointed out, looking at the girl. "A beast, indeed."
Part of her was expecting to get turned into some sort of animal and get kicked out of Pendergast School – which wouldn't be too terrible, except then she'd have to go back home. Then again, it might be worth it.
While Brighid was more than happy to admit to her deeds, she hadn't expected Mariah to speak up either. Of course her friend hadn't actually admitted to anything, but obviously she knew about it. Malfoy was fuming and that only fueled Bri's need to piss her off even more.
The laugh that bubbled up was harsh and shrill. "That is rich." She echoed Mariah as she set her sketching down on the side table and stood up. She was not of an impressive height, but she could be imposing when she wanted to be. "A slap hmm?" She mused aloud, an evil glint in both her eyes and a twinge of it in her voice. "Why don't you try it and see what happens?" Bri knew the blonde didn't have the guts to actually follow through.
As if dealing with Connolly wasn't enough, Mariah Mohr had to jump in as well. Merlin, how many friends did that dastardly Ellory Pendergast have? What did people even find in her! It was as though she was some kind of veela, except instead of men she attracted stupid, ugly girls!
"I am not a barbarian like you and your little friend Pendergast!" Brynn said haughtily. She turned to Mariah. "An innocent girl? My dear, you were not even there, so let me enlighten you. Your friend Pendergast is no innocent girl. She attacked my friend first!"
Hard as she tried, Mariah's lip curled slightly at the obvious condescending endearment that Malfoy used. How strange that two words could immediately remind her of another beast that lurked back home. Not that Mariah wanted Brighid to get slapped, but she wanted to see Malfoy try to - she was sure Brighid would not take it sitting down and frankly, she wanted to see that beast get in trouble.
"I don't have to be there to know who provoked whom," Mariah responded cooly, narrowing her eyes. "It's clear who has the fouler mouth in this scenario. Trust me, my dear." She set her book down. "I know my family doesn't have the best reputation but I know what a true beast looks like inside and out."
@'Ellory Pendergast'
@'Elsie Beauregard' Sorry for the wait! <3
Brighid didn't even try to hide the smirk that blossomed on her lips when Malfoy instead turned her attention to Mariah- who could clearly handle herself, making excuses about being too proper to put her money where her mouth was.
Nodding along with Mariah, Bri let out a chuckle now. She didn't know everything about Mara's home life, but from the little she did know, it was obvious her friend had some knowledge on the subject of beasts."There's no excuse for poor breeding of beasts, despite marrying into the Lestrange family." Bri added, choosing to ignore the fact that Ellory was related to the Lestranges; she felt like Ell was the exception in that family of wackadoos.
