History:

1864 | Greer is born. She proves to be a rather colicky baby, a harbinger of her anxious adult nature.

1866 | Gordon dies. Even if he had ever paid much attention to his youngest child, Greer is far too young when he passes to have any memories of him survive to her adulthood.

1867 | The family moves to Bettany Observatory, and it proves to be the only home Greer remembers having.

1871 | Adair departs for Hogwarts. Between this, the age gap between her and Fraser, and her mother's devotion to her work, Greer often finds herself left to her own devices. With few children living nearby to call playmates, Greer becomes a voracious reader, especially of the old, romantic Arthurian legends and foreign mythologies.

1875 | At last, Greer departs for school and is sorted into Hufflepuff. Having grown up in a decidedly more quiet environment than what Hogwarts would allow, it is hard for the girl to adjust at first. She does, eventually, make a handful of friends, though she never does fully come out of her shell.

1877 | Greer chooses Divination and Ancient Studies as her electives as she begins her third year.

1878 | Adair has her coming out and goes abroad, only to be married by the end of the year! Greer is a bit sad that she doesn't return to Scotland, but still writes to her often.

1879 | Fifth year proves to be a difficult one for the shy redhead. She decides that she is quite infatuated with a boy in the year above her -- until, of course, she overhears him mocking her hair in the library! If Greer ever entertained any thoughts of actually speaking to the lad, they were certainly dashed immediately and she develops a complex about her unfortunate coloring. She also sits her O.W.L. exams and does passably well in all of them, and chooses to continue with Divination, Ancient Studies, Potions, Charms, Herbology, and Astronomy -- the latter more out of a romantic fascination with the stars rather than any scientific interest she might have inherited from her mother.

1880 | Uncle Tomas dies and Mother inherits his brewery.

1882 | Greer graduates and has her coming out. She feels quite sure that she will not be as lucky as her older sister in the marriage department even in the months leading up to her debut, but the actual event fails to meet even her low expectations. After drinking a glass of champagne between dances, she has an allergic reaction to the alcohol and has to be rushed to the hospital not even halfway into the ball! She recovers within a day or two, but is mortified at the scene she caused and becomes even more anxious in social situations now that she knows she can't take advantage of alcohol to loosen herself up! Her NEWTs are acceptable but not quite tailored to any specific profession, so she is quite at a loss for what to do for a few months after she decides debutante life is not for her. Eventually she settles on what she feels is her one talent: astrology. She submits astrology articles to various magazines under a pen name and spends much time in the observatory when Mother is not occupying it.

1884 | Mother becomes the Astronomy professor at Hogwarts, leaving Greer in charge of the observatory. Though it is a quiet life, it suits Greer immensely as it allows her more time to practice her art. Adair often visits her and vice versa, and though her big sister often tries to nudge her towards this gentleman or that one, Greer has still never managed to successfully catch anyone's eye. Despite being a romantic at heart, Greer is just so painfully shy she doesn't know how to approach men!

1885 | After getting a bit lonely at the observatory, Greer adopts a stray cat and begins on the path to becoming a spinster cat lady.
