Though she did not inherit her mother's red hair, Lena certainly inherited everything else alongside her anxieties; grey eyes, facial structure, slight frame, though she has fallen short of Ida's height at a more average five feet and one inch. She dresses modestly, like her mother, preferring neutral colours to anything especially girly, and usually wears her fair hair in a simple, uncomplicated bun. She is right-handed.History:
1870-76 | Lena Mary Hill is born in the autumn of 1870 and proves, in time, to be the only child of Edwin and Ida Hill. She by no means lacks for affection, with a loving father and mother and, though the Hills are not particularly wealthy, she never wants for anything. Not that she needs very much—raised by a mother who had once not had very much at all, Lena grows into a modest girl, grateful for all that she has and rarely wanting anything more.Personality:
1877-81 | Shot three times by muggles, Edwin Hill dies in 1877, leaving behind a widow and a bereft young daughter that misses her father more and more each day. She and her mother move in with her late father’s parents in 1878, and Lena finds some comfort in having her grandparents near, oblivious to the financial necessity of the move.
She also finds solace in the antique piano abandoned in one of the house's empty rooms, a hobby that soon becomes a passion—a distraction which blossoms into a veritable talent, nurtured by the lessons that her grandparents arrange for her which culminate in her very first recital. But, instead of the pride Lena had hoped for from her mother, Ida seems rather disappointed that her daughter has chosen to waste her energy on something so useless and, in the months leading up to her joining Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Lena finds herself immersed in information she finds difficult to grasp and in textbooks for subjects she is utterly dreading in an effort to please her.
1882-84 | Lena leaves South Bartonburg, her mother and her grandparents, for Hogwarts and finds the school rather different from the dark, foreboding castle of her nightmares. Though she is still dreading her lessons, her spirits are immediately lifted when she learns there is a Music Club—and a piano. She is sorted into Hufflepuff with very little hesitation on the part of the Sorting Hat and throws herself into Music Club with enthusiasm; even her lessons aren't half as terrible as she had been imagining and Lena does rather well in her first year as a Hogwarts student.
Except not well enough for her mother, apparently. The pride Lena feels for achievements is quickly deflated by her mother's disappointment and she returns to Hogwarts for her second year—and each year thereafter—with more determination but decidedly less self-worth.
1884-6 | If Lena had felt under pressure before, she feels on edge every second of each day when her mother joins her at Hogwarts as the House Matron of her own house. And with the prospect of potentially becoming prefect on the horizon, Lena feels even more pressured to do her best—her best being the attainment of straight O's. Nothing less will do for Ida Hill, after all.
Lena is kind, modest, loyal, generous—but has an inferiority complex the size of an astral body. Naturally clever and hard-working, the pressure piled on by her mother and, more importantly, her desperation for her approval, frequently leads to over-exertion and anxiety. An already gifted pianist, Lena nonetheless often feels the need to avoid the music room in order to study, particularly now her mother is her house matron. Lena often feels worthless.
