Alan had had a lot of strange experiences in his life. In the sixteen odd years since he'd discovered magic existed, he'd seen many, many things that he would have otherwise assumed were impossible.

Before today, though, Alan could safely say that he'd never seen a man wave his own severed arm around while demanding it be reattached. He'd also still been bleeding. It had taken Alan, two interns, and a rather burly fellow who worked in maintenance to get the man to lie still. Once they'd gotten him to stop yelling at them--and for the blood to stop--the man kept insisting that a dog had bitten him. Alan wasn't sure if he was delirious or if he was lying because he'd actually been fooling with something that was illegal.

All that said, Alan thought he'd earned something stronger than the coffee he was nursing in the break room. It was technically his lunch time. Technically "lunch" was a very loose term, as it was actually three in the morning. But things had settled to a much more manageable, normal chaos. Therefore, when the door opened again, the first thing Alan said was, "Please tell me there isn't an emergency going on out there."

In all of Coraline's eleven years as a healer, she had seen a lot of chaos- pandemics, panic, emergencies, she had seen it all.

But what she hadn't ever seen was a man waving about his own severed arm and demanding it be reattached. She was busy working on a separate patient, so Coraline hadn't intervened, but it seemed as though Alan was struggling to get him to lie still, even with the help of those interns and that rather large fellow from maintenance. She had heard all sorts of excuses from people who had really been playing around with something illegal, and it was hard to suppress a laugh when the man claimed that a dog had bitten him. A dog. Was that the best that he could come up with?

Nevertheless, she was glad to finally get a break. Coraline was absolutely starving, and she was sure that she wasn't the only one from the department.

This theory was confirmed when she opened the door to find Alan with what looked like his lunch. She grinned at his words, and slid into the seat opposite him.

"No emergency, unless you count how much my stomach is growling right now."

Alan smiled wryly at Miss Gambol. "I'll happily take that emergency over something else," he said. He raised his coffee as if in a toast. "Here's hoping no one else comes in missing a limb tonight." At least that wasn't normal. Relatively speaking.

Coraline smiled slightly and nodded in agreement to Alan's words. She would definitely take that emergency too. At least there wasn't a pandemic or anything happening. She hoped that there wouldn't be another one of them for a good few years, at least.

"I do not think I've ever seen anything like that before- and I've seen a lot of peculiar happenings. Thank Merlin that it doesn't happen regularly. You seemed to be..." she grinned, "in control of the situation, though."

"Nor have I," Alan said. He shook his head. "He was surprisingly strong for a man who'd just had his arm off. I don't know if I ought to be impressed or not." It certainly hadn't helped matters, so Alan was currently leaning towards not.
