For the First Time in Forever

Rose was second guessing her offer to wait for her father to head home. It seemed nice to her to spend a little extra time with the man, but it was quality father-daughter time, and more waiting for him to close up the shop so they could go home. The shop was empty, as was most of the high street since things were closing down for the night. Still, her father was tinkering with something in the back and Rose waited.

At the sound of someone new entering the shop, Rose turned and headed for the front, saying as she rounded a corner, "Sorry, we're closing."

Prosper was a lot of things, but responsible wasn't one of them. Sure, he did his job well enough but that was only because he was being paid for it and his family needed the money to stay afloat. He stayed on top of things at Quality Quidditch Supplies out of necessity rather than any actual desire to do his job well. In every other facet of his life, Prosper was flighty and unreliable. His parents were well aware of this which was why they hardly ever asked him to run errands. Before they'd disowned his older brother, he had been their errand boy. Without him, more responsibilities fell on Prosper and he wasn't coping with them well.

On this particular day, his father had instructed him to go out and purchase something (Prosper still couldn't remember what it was for the life of him) from a shop on the high street. This was the fourth time this week his father had asked him to do it and Prosper was sure that if he returned home without it again things wouldn't end well for him. He'd started the day with every intention of picking the item up on his break, but he'd forgotten about it till now, right when the shops were starting to close.

He jogged down the street to a shop (he prayed it was the right one) and pushed the door open. Prosper was already starting to scan the place for what his father wanted when a young lady approached him. "Ah, really?" His face fell when he heard that the shop was closing. "Can you just give me a few minutes please? If I don't get this thing my father needs he'll wring my neck for sure." Prosper gave her a pleading look, throwing a pout in for good measure.

"Well..." Rose glanced over her shoulder, but there was no sign of her father stirring. She supposed it wouldn't hurt if it was quick. They clearly weren't leaving for a bit, anyway. "Do you know what you need?"
