Transfiguration Years 6-7 [Sept]

NEWT-level Transfiguration was the class Rufus thought he would enjoy teaching by far. He'd known that there were quite a few students signed up—more than some of the other classes—and was excited to see how skilled his students would be. He thought he would start out with a subject he was most familiar with: animagi.

"Welcome class. My name is Professor Scrimgeour and I will be your new Transfiguration professor. Might anyone tell me the differences between a patronus and an animagus form?" he asked curiously, peering around at the students who sat in front of him.

Maddie, who was determined to start this year, as she meant to go on, raised her hand.

She had been so excited for the start of the new term, her grades had been good - perhaps better than expected and now she was determined to excel in her final two years, get fantastic grades and either join the ministry or become an auror - she hadn't quite decided yet. Transfiguration would play a big part in her future -especially since she hoped to become an animagus

'Sir, is it that a patronus is a spell that takes the form of an animal, and an animagus is a wizard who can change his form to look like an animal?' she gave by way of answer.

  

[Katrina Winthrop]

Katrina didn't know why she'd, specifically, chosen to keep Transfiguration if she wasn't going to use the skill in the future. She didn't know what she wanted to be, but she'd most likely follow in her mother's footsteps and get married right out Hogwarts (as if she could ever be that lucky). "Isn't there only one form per person with animagus?" she added onto her classmates', barely focusing in the class.

At the subject Professor Scrimgeour had brought up, Persephone had raised a surprised eyebrow. 

Oh certainly, she was very much interested in Animagi -- she hadn’t done all of that studying over the summer if she wasn’t, after all -- but this being the first day of classes, she was rather taken aback that he elected to begin the year with the most complex of Transfiguration material. It was kind of refreshing, in all honesty.

“The same could also be applied to a Patronus, as well,” Sephey tacked on to Miss Winthrop’s inquiry whilst simultaneously answering it at the same time, “though a Patronus can change form under special circumstances. An Animagus form cannot."

Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure.

Pet wondered what would become of her missing eye if she became an animagus. From all that she knew of the transformation, it would take into account missing anatomy and adjust accordingly but what if she became a creature with more than two eyes? Or less than two eyes?

She remained silent with nothing more to add to the responses from her peers on the matter.

[Zinnia Potts]

Zinnia was easily a student to be forgotten in a big crowd. Without an overly rambunctious sort of demeanor, she tended to just drift away in her own thoughts and go unnoticed. As such, it wasn't much of a surprise that she'd remained relatively quiet during her first Transfiguration class of the year. She'd heard what was being said, of course, but she had still bit mostly lost in her own thoughts.

"They do have something in common though," she said, adding into the conversation even if the question had been about the differences between the two, "No one gets to decide what the form of either is. No one really knows what their patronus will be until they successful cast one. Same as your animagus form. You won't know what form you'll take until you succeed in doing so." She'd hardly looked up from a sketch she was doing of some mystical creature even as she spoke. Glancing up just briefly at the end with a smile before looking back to her sketch and continuing on.

"What kind of 'Special' Circumstances?" Miya asked, not really caring. "It isn't like you can change one of your core personalities." unless she misunderstood how a patronus decided it's semi-permanent form. She had never really bothered with paying that close of attention to her Transfiguration courses.
