Barnaby Archibald Lennox û brother, aged 26
Wilhelmina Josephine (nee Von Mallesch) Lennox û wife, aged 25
Henry Octavius Lennox û son, aged 3
Appearance: Like his brother Barnaby, Ezekiel was blessed with impressive height, inky black hair, and honey hued eyes. Of course, Ezekiel was also blessed with high cheekbones and a striking countenance. He walks with a primal sense of purpose, as though his hips were leading the way, and he can often be seen wearing a delightfully devilish smirk.
His clothes, surprisingly enough, are not flashy: he dresses in muted jewel tones--admittedly with a dash of his favorite color, red, here and there--and keeps the attention on his handsome facial features.
History: Ezekiel was the star child of his middle-class family, more likely than not because he was the first son. He performed well in school because he had the motivation he needed from a loving, supportive family--well, at least, loving and supportive of him. His brother Barnaby, in contrast, proved to be less fortunate, and resorted to acting out in school for attention. Unfortunately, this reaped the opposite of the desired effect: Ezekiel was then praised further for his performance, putting him on a pedestal which Barnaby could never--and [i]would never--live up to. Consequently, Ezekiel developed an ego that was nursed well into adulthood.
Their time at Hogwarts seemed as though it would be a turning point in their relationship. With Barnaby making friends of his own, there was the possibility that the two brothers could lead separate lives. Surely this would lend itself to more amicable communication between the two, when they weren't being shoved down the other's throat at every turn.
But a girl named Wilhelmina Mallesch changed all that.
Her introduction into the Lennox boys' lives was the catalyst that drove the final stake in their relationship. Ezekiel, the upstanding prefect with an outstanding academic record and a charming smile, found himself, for the first time, enamored with a woman that did not know he existed. From afar, he nurtured his affections, working up to the perfect moment when he might profess his feelings for her...but when that day came, he did not get the chance to court her on her own terms.
He found Barnaby with her first.
Any notions of an easy-going courtship was thrown out the window the moment he saw them together, and in its place an aggressive pursuit for her hand was propped up by an innate violent competitive street. He had not intended to be so forward in his approach, but it did not matter anyway: it was a well-known fact that Ezekiel, despite his middle-class background, was an ideal match for any woman. He was going places, and everyone knew it. Wilhelmina would have been a fool to pass him up.
Make no mistake: Ezekiel was in love with that wonderful, tender-hearted girl, but the thought of Barnaby outshining him for the first time in his life was enraging. Consequently, the affection he held for Wilhelmina was outbid by his ferociously ambitious nature. It never stood a chance.
Ezekiel had planned to be a doting husband after they graduated from Hogwarts--really, he did. But he was just breaking into the Ministry, and his career commanded his full attention. If he wanted to live up to the expectations his family--and Mina's family, at that--set forth for him, he needed to devote his time to advancing his position in the ministry.
And all of his work paid off! Of course, he had to sacrifice a few things--like, quality time with his wife and eventually, after 1877, his son--to get where he wanted to be, but by the age of 25 he was on the fast route to the Head of the Department of Mysteries (he doesn't actually get the job until 1879).
But working in the Department of Mysteries came with its own special price. Trying to jumpstart your career and break into the upper-class are stressful feats on their own, but the Department of Mysteries offered up an entirely new set of challenges Ezekiel never imagined he would have to face. The terrors he faced there and the grave knowledge that came with his job were easily compartmentalized in the beginning years, but there is only so much one person may take. This stress, compounded with the demands of a wife and a fast lifestyle (and eventually a toddler), got to him. Life soon went downhill in the Lennox household, as Zeke turned his frustration against the one person that was only there to listen: his doting bride, Wilhelmina.
He would often feel terribly guilty after treating her so poorly, but as his guilt mounted and his pride prevented him from apologizing properly, he would act out against her even worse than the last time. Eventually, in lieu of trying to grapple with his problems on his own, he turned to liquor. Thankfully, that habit quieted down upon the birth of their son, Henry, in 1877, the year they all moved to Hogsmeade for a fresh start, but in its place came an even more disturbing practice: vagrant adultery.
Ezekiel is presently spending less and less time at home and more time engaging in a few scattered affairs with women who have known him intimately long enough to be addressed officially as his mistresses. He is quite confident that Wilhelmina is not privy to his adultery, and he is content that way.
Personality: Ezekiel comes off as a charming, witty, and generally amicable character to those that are not privy to the inner workings of his mind. Beneath the clever jokes and witty rhetoric is a malignant humor only those fortunate enough to be close to him can find.
He is also, first and foremost, from a middle-class family, and the thought haunts him to an unsettling degree. Knowing that he will never truly belong amongst the upper-crust he worked so hard to impress infuriates and terrifies Zeke; he is constantly over compensating for this, and--if you know where to look--it shows. This fear has become an insecurity, which manifests itself in his dogged ambition and fits of fury (which, unfortunately, his wife is quite familiar with).
Perhaps there is a softer side to Zeke. At times, it may rear its head to buy Wilhelmina flowers on his way home from work, or to treat one of his mistresses with a night out on the town. (In a [i]different town, of course. He wouldn't want to raise suspicions.) But this side of Ezekiel has surely been repressed: his parents taught him to behave like a heartless wretch if it would work in his advantage. Unfortunately, this means that he cannot make an exception for anyone--including Wilhelmina.
