    Dear Helena,

    August 14, 1882

I suppose it is nice that we do not have to worry about corsets and chaperons since we are lower class, and that Ventus woman would never write anything about us unless we run naked across the high street which I doubt that will happen. Still, it would be nice to have some more clothes and food. Being Middle Class is better, in my opinion. You have enough money to have a comfortable life and you do not have to worry so much about being proper.

I bet that the hit wizards are a lot more skilled than me, but I heard that when hit wizards first start their job they are taught some defensive spells, so I guess you might be right. Truth be told, I wouldn't mind being paid for kicking some ass.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    13th August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

I still wear mine now and again, mostly at my mother insistence, she is sure that it gives womanly curves, since I hope one day to raise myself in the world I should probably still attempt to keep those old habits. Although the lack of Chaperons is a blessing in disguise, for with one I would not have had the most interesting meeting a young gentleman a few days ago at the carnival.

I suppose as a hit wizard they would have to teach you something, otherwise anyone who knew the unforgivables could call themselves hit wizards, just as being an auror requires more than simply getting good NEWT scores.

I wear a corset too, though mine is hardly as tight as the ones upper class girls wear. I can't understand why not being able to breath is so fashionable, I want to be able to run and move freely, without collapsing due to the lack of air.

We only need chaperons in Hogwarts, where everyone is chaperoned, but they hardly pay attention to the lower class students. Nobody cares if we do something scandalous and I guess this is a good thing.

I will need at least an E at every NEWT class I take, so I guess I should start studying hard.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    15th August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

I am sure you will them! We will work very hard and get the grades together! Since I intend to get excellent grades as well. Since regardless of what we decide to do after school, the best grades will stand us in the best stead.

My family would care if I did something scandalous, I recently spoke with my cousin from the other Princes and it would be nice to get to know them again and being overly scandalous would jeapordise that. As well as many work possibilities after school, for example, no one wants a teacher, or even a professor at Hogwarts who is scandalous or of ill repute. After all who would hire a professor of low morals, I doubt Professor Black would.

We could also help each other with the classes we are best at. I could surely use some help in Herbology and the only reason I am keeping it is because it's needed for my future occupation.

My parents would want me to have a good reputation, but they have no right to speak when they screwed up with their lives when they were younger than me. My mother still hopes that I will marry up to the upper class and, truth to be told, I wouldn't be opposed to that possibility.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    17th August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

I think I am rather looking forward to Herbology next year, much like Magical creatures and potions we are moving on to much more advanced plants and even some very dangerous ones next year. I think it will be fascinating to get to use the plants in class and then later in potions. Moreover I believe we learn more about animagus this year, I would love to learn to be one, or maybe trying to master the corporal patronus.

No indeed! Is there someone from the upper classes that you have your eye on my friend? I mean one of those Quidditch stars of yours?

    Your Friend,

    Dear Helena,

Being an animagus sounds to be a pretty cool thing. I wouldn't mind being able to turn into an animal whenever I feel like it, but I heard that one needs a lot of time to become an animagus and I am not sure if I have the time to do it. I want to focus on other things.

I am not interested in anyone, currently. None of the current Quidditch players are intereesting in my opinion. Maybe after graduation I will manage to find someone, but only someone from the Middle Class would possibly want me.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    19th August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

I think if I was an animagus I might well be something like a bird, I think I would be a creature that flies, or perhaps a fox. I could imagine the things that I would get up to with the ability to move through life as an animal how much easier would transport and travel be. I would also love to learn aparation this year.

Do not under sell yourself my dear! Perhaps a gentleman from the middle class who is a famous Quidditch player will decide that you would make a good bride and you could give him all sorts of grief about his training regime.

    Dear Helena,

I think that my animagus form would be a raven, since my patronous is a raven. Being a bird seems as a nice form, though, it is useful. Imagine being able to turn into an elephant or an ant?

I wouldn't mind marrying a Quiddich player. And I honestly would rather marry into the Middle than the Upper Class. Middle Class people have more freedom and enough money not to starve.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    21st August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

Something huge like an elephant would be fun I suppose in some circumstances, but not exactly practical, I mean if a wizard can turn into something normal sized like a bird or a domestic animal you can do it in Hogsmeade, but something huge like an elephant would be rather a sight in the middle of the high street. It would be very disappointing to to find that you had put in all of the work to turn into an animal only to find the animal form to be disapointing or impractical.

Very true! An upperclass gentleman might well be wealthy and financially secure I would imagine so entirely stifling as to be a bore after a very short period of time. I also dont think I would have a great deal in common with an upper class gentleman and they might expect more timidity than perhaps I would be willing to submit to.

    Dear Helena,

Most of the animagi I know usually turn to small animals anyway, like birds and cats. I think that Mr Prewett, the one who graduated this year, can turn into one a koala, some animal that can be found in Australia. I think that it looks like a weird monkey, but I have never seen one in my life, unless there's one at the carnival.

The patronous is less disappointing, I guess. Only someone really vain wouldn't like his patronous form for being too big or too ugly, though I suppose I wouldn't be too happy about having, let's say, a snail as a patronous.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    21st August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

Oh a Koala! I have never seen one live, I have seen one in a muggle book that I bought in London last year. They are very cute! If I had known that about him I might have asked to see it, it is certainly an improvement on his usual visage! Alright I admit it that was rather wicked of me but I am a slytherin am I not?

I think it would be hard to find a creature that did not look spectacular as a patronus, the beautiful ghostly white, like the ghost of an animal. So beautiful! I agree though I dont imagine how effective a snail would be as a patronus, since it is supposed to be able to charge off something like a dementer. OH no I don't think I can wait until school gets back and we can use magic without getting into trouble because I really want to learn that spell now! I mean I was able to get a mist last year but I am determined to make it corporeal this year.

    Dear Helena,

I cannot wait to turn seventeen. Next summer I will be able to use my wand and I won't have to do everything in the muggle way. I agree that I cannot wait for the school year to start. Who knows, maybe this one will be better than the last one. Hopefully there will be no hussies.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

    21st August 1882,

    Dear Merry,

Oh indeed! It will be nice to be able to help out in the house, you know with cleaning and mending charms having ones own wand rather than relying on mother to do it. I imagine that apparating will be incredibly useful in the long especially at home.

Well my dear! There is not long left before we return to school, but if you would care to meet before school begins to get a few last minute supplies please do send me an owl, I should be available at a moments notice!

    Your Friend,

    Dear Helena,

I cannot wait to learn how to apparate. I heard that it is not a pleasant thing, though and that you may feel sick for a couple of minutes. Well, it is surely better than being hit by a bludger.

As for the shopping trip, I would love to. I've already bought by supplies, but I am sure I could accompany you anyway.

    Sincerely,

    Merry

It is a good plan, I shall no doubt see you before then but if not I shall see you at the school.
