    Callum Baines
    #1
    In Character
    Full Name: Callum Rhys Baines

    Nicknames: Cal

    Birthdate: January 31st, 1848

    Current Age: Thirty-Four

    Occupation: Obliviator

Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw, though he was only able to attend for four years.

Wand: Mahogany, 11 ¢ inches, veela hair. Rather argumentative, Callum has to work to get it to behave.

    Blood Status: Half-blood

    Social Class: Lower Class

    Family:
    • Robert Baines Sr., Father (51, Deceased at 40) | Robert left the family for America when Callum was just sixteen, and was not heard of again until his death.

Guinevere Baines, Mother (48) | Though once employed as a kitchen maid, Guinevere has bounced amidst various forms of employment since her husband's leaving, unable to focus on any one job in particular. Most recently, she has found employment making alterations at a muggle clothing shop in Bristol.

Robert Baines Jr., Brother (31) | Being in Ravenclaw did not ensure that Callum was the most intelligent of his siblings, as Slytherin Robert plainly illustrated. With grades so exceptionally good that no one thought twice about piling on the scholarships, Robert, unlike the rest of his family, was able to complete seven years at Hogwarts. Currently, he works for the ministry as an obliviatorùa job Cal himself had always wantedùthough within it is rather low-level, and still unable to finance his way to a higher class. Robert married in 1880 and his wife is currently expecting their first child. Robert and Callum have never gotten on particularly well.

Bronwen Pugh, Sister (28) | The sibling with whom Callum is closest, Bronwen is the quiet, passive sort. A Ravenclaw like her brother, Bronwen completed two years of her schooling before returning to her parents and assisting her mother as a kitchen maid. Today, she is the wife of a farmer, and has two sons aged nine and six.

Vanessa Brydon, Sister (26) | The younger of the two Baines daughters, Vanessa was never afforded the opportunity to attend Hogwarts, leaving her magical skills rudimentary and underused. Unsatisfied with her life in Pembroke, she moved at fifteen to London, where the family lost track of her entirely for several years. She resurfaced at the age of twenty-four, married with half a dozen children, and refuses to tell anyone what happened in her "time away". Her boys are eight, seven, and three years old; her girls ten, seven, and five.

Llewellyn Baines, Brother (23) | The youngest of Callum's siblings, Llewellyn works at Hogsmeade Station. Llewellyn, like Vanessa, was unable to attend Hogwarts.

Enid Baines, Estranged Wife (26) | Callum loved his wife once, immensely. The two years since their daughter's death, however, has been hard on the pair, who no longer share a residence. Enid took ill while Callum was on the Ministry Expidition; though he has yet to be informed, she has since died.

Dylan Baines, Son (16) | Aparently, upper-class families don't particularly like it when their fifteen year old daughters get impregnated, and Dylan's mother was certainly no exception. Pulled from school and sent to live with an aunt in the countryside, it was decided by her father that saddling Callumùonly just of age at the timeùwith an infant would be appropriate "revenge" (and he's very glad that was their choice!). Callum, in turn, left the infant with his mother, until Dylan was five or so, at which point Cal was stable enoughùas much as he could be, reallyùto take on the boy directly. Incredibly bright, the fifth year Ravenclaw will be able to complete his schooling due to a limited amount provided in the form of a scholarship coupled with Callum's position at the school, and Cal sincerely hopes his eldest will be able to make something of himself.

Somerset Agrippa, Son (15) | Though Cal knows the boy being his is a possibility, he has not lost any sleep over it, nor has he perused the matter.

Gwendolyn Yates, Daughter (13) | With only the names of mother and father and no memory of the faces of either, Gwen spent much of her life in an orphanage, where her darker skin and general quirkiness made the Hufflepuff a prime target for bullying. Immediately upon discovering her æfather's' name was also the name of the Hogwarts caretaker, the youngster made herself known to him; even though he recognized the mother's nameùand thus knew it to be possibleùCal would not have taken the girl in as he did had his daughter Winifred not died just three months before.

Bethan Baines, Daughter (7) | Callum's youngest living daughter and eldest child with Enid. After her mother's death, she now resides with Callum.

Winifred Baines, Daughter (4, Deceased at 2) | Typically, Callum did not think much on his youngest daughter until after she was dead. He loved her, to be sure, and did his best by her, but did not realize quite how important she was to him until her death left him shaken.
Appearance: All in all, Callum is largely average, which suits him just fineùhe doesn't need to stick out. At five feet, eleven inches in height, the wizard is large enough to hold his own when it proves necessary but not so tall as to be imposing; his is a rather lean frame, is it has always been. Both shaggy hair and expressiveùoften too much so for his likingùeyes are brown in colour, set against an average complexion. Right-handed, Cal has little use for writing or wandwork (though uses the latter much more frequently than the former), for all that he has been trained, to some extent, in each. His clothing style is a simple one, garments not quite as well-kept as they were when he was still with his wife.

    History:
    • January of 1848 | Callum is born the eldest child to Robert and Guinevere Baines, and the trio reside at the home of his maternal grandparents in Pembroke until able to afford to rent a residence of their own in the summer of the following year.
    • May of 1849 | Robert's mother passes away.
    • October of 1851 | Robert the Younger is born the couple's second son; the first major barrier between the two proves to be the attention a new baby requires detracting from the attention to which Cal is accustomed, particularly given that their parents' work responsibilities leave little time for a family life.
    • July of 1854 | The family welcomes their first daughter, Bronwen. Robert's father passes away later that month, leaving the family a modest inheritance.
    • June of 1856 | Vanessa is born.
    • September of 1859 | With enough savings set aside to finance it, Callum is able to attend Hogwarts, where he is sorted into Ravenclaw house. He takes immediately to the atmosphere of the school, though perhaps focuses more on socializing than his studies; Cal proves unable, as a result, to receive any sort of financial assistance for his attendance.
    • December of 1859 | The family's last child, Llewellyn, is born over the Christmas holidays.
    • September of 1863 | The family is unable to finance anymore schooling for Callum. Not at all pleased by the prospect, he jealously watches Robert return to the school and finds a job at the local market.
    • March of 1864 | Unable to live with his parents' constant arguments and Robert's successes at school forever thrust before him, Cal finds a small residence of his own, though it's little more than a small bedroom in size.
    • May of 1864 | After a particularly violent argument over the family's financial state, Robert Sr. abandons the rest of the clan in favour of brighter prospects in America. He is not heard from again, and Callum takes on more responsibility in an attempt to pick up the slack financially, though he still maintains a residence of his own.
    • March of 1865 | A young bastard is born to Miss Brenna Davies of Cardiff, fifteen and, until recently, betrothed. Her father's idea of punishment for his role in the child's conception, young Dylan is leftùessentially for dead; the Davies, really, had no reason to believe Callum had enough moral character to actually look after the infantùwith the seventeen year old who, in turn, leaves the infant with Guinevere and the rest of the Baines household.
    • September of 1865 | An unexpectedly good year financially, in spite of many changes, sees Bronwen able to begin her studies at Hogwarts.
    • September of 1867 | Another bad year means no more schooling for Bronwenùand none at all for Vanessa.
    • August of 1870 | News of Robert the Elder's death reaches the family just as Callum feels ready to take on the raising of his son.
    • July of 1873 | Bethan Baines is born to Callum and partner of two years, Enid Kirke.
    • September of 1874 | Callum finds employment as caretaker at Hogwarts, though Enid and his children continue to reside in Pembroke.
    • April of 1876 | Young Winifred Baines is born, and Enid insists Callum finally make an honest woman of her. He agrees, knowing she'll never stop nagging him otherwise (oh, and because he loves her. That too).
    • September of 1876 | Dylan begins his schooling at Hogwarts, and is sorted into Ravenclaw.
    • February of 1878 | Enid and the girls move to Hogsmeade, allowing Callum to be much closer to his family.
    • September of 1878 | Quite suddenly, Winifred's life is taken by a particularly aggressive fever. Both parents and siblings are left bereft, and struggle to adjust to the loss.
    • October of 1878 | Her name was Lola Gwendolyn, and she was a showgirl a biracial "orphan" in Hufflepuff house. She was also, though he wasn't inclined to believe her childish claims initially, Callum's eldest daughter (...to the best of his knowledge). Quite selfishlyùhe was still hurting immensely from the loss of his youngest, and thought adopting this newcomer might make his life feel less crapùhe took the girl in, though Enid was none too pleased with this new arrangement.
    • December of 1880 | Tensions between Callum and Enid reach their head, and the latterùBethan in towùmoves into a residence of her own.
    • May of 1882 | Callum sets off on the Ministry's expidition.
    • August of 1882 | Callum returns home to learn that his estranged wife has passed away. He is devistated. Bethan moves into his home.
    • September of 1882 | Fed up with cleaning up after students, Callum begins working in earnest towards his goal of becomming an obliviator. Every spare moment is spent doing everything he can to prepare himself.
    • December of 1882 | Callum finally passes the necessary Ministry tests to enter his dream occupation, though his lack of schooling ensures that he will spend the first six months on probation and working with a senior Obliviator.
