Marisol Blackthorne (nÚe Huntington) | Mother | Deceased (c.1834-1872)

    Appearance:
Upon first look, one can tell that Orion is rough around the edges. In fact, he can be a rather intimidating man. He is large in stature, standing at 6'3" and weighing in at 90 kg (200 lbs) of muscle û the physical demands of his job help him maintain said physique. His skin tone is darker, and he often simply looks dirty given his job. His hair is cut just a bit short, and he usually has some sort of facial scruff of varying degrees depending on the time of year, but he is never clean-shaven. He is certainly not a bad-looking man, but he doesn't take as good care of himself as he should. His most distinctive facial feature is his eyes û they are a very pale green, standing out against his dark skin and hair. His other defining features include his large stature, intimidating demeanor and excessive scarring from the countless "disagreements" he has gotten into. Being lower class and the Hogwarts Groundskeeper, he is usually dressed very casually and his clothing is often just as dirty as him, from whatever work he might have been doing. His left hand his dominant.

    History:
1855 | In November of this year, Orion is born to Clayton and Marisol Blackthorne. He was not supposed to have happened, as the two can hardly support themselves, much less a child. However, Marisol could not bring herself to end the child's life, and so he was born. He has a very modest childhood, as his family struggled to support the added finances a child brought. Being a halfblood, and undeniably a wizard, his parents knew that one day he would be invited to attend Hogwarts, and thus much of their extra finances (albeit not a lot) were put towards saving for his inevitable education.

1860 | As to be expected, Orion shows his first sign of magic at the age of 5. This feat is the first sign of his violent side - having decided he didn't like frogs, Orion turned one into a spider and crushed it. It was being way too noisy. It is this year that tragedy strikes his family, upon the death of his father. Though he was too young to truly understand what had happened, he was clearly affected negatively by his father's passing. His mother discovers he doesn't necessarily play well with others - he is a very stubborn child and when provoked, even by the simplest and most childish arguments, he would turn to aggression and violence to get his point across. She believed that this was due in large part to his anger and confusion over the loss of his father, but it is a trait that has stuck with him ever since.

1867 | Due to his late birthday, Orion's Hogwarts letter doesn't arrive until this year. The only reason he is able to attend is because his parents had been wise and begun saving upon his birth. He receives all of his supplies and robes second-hand, and does not bring a pet with him. He likely wouldn't get along with a pet anyway - he doesn't really get along well with anyone. This proves to hold true throughout his time at Hogwarts, despite his being sorted into Gryffindor - people simply avoided him as often as possible, having received a reputation as quite the rapscallion. Not to mention he simply didn't look approachable or friendly. Many believed he should have been placed in Slytherin, but clearly the Sorting Hat saw something within him that none others could - not even himself.

1870 | It seems that Orion was destined to be unhappy, as this year brings the death of his last known relative - neither of his parents had siblings, and both sets of his grandparents had passed not long after his birth. His mother dies over the winter holidays of his third year, not very long after the New Year. Now left entirely alone, Orion learns to fend for himself. His mother left him what money they had left, and he made that last as long as possible until he could get a job of his own. He returned to Hogwarts after winter break and was even less inviting than usual, often getting into physical fights with anyone who slighted him. His interest in dark magic piqued this year, and thus his grades in Defence Against the Dark Arts improved. He had never particularly done well in any of his classes before the death of his mother, but knowing now that he would have to support himself sooner than he had expected, he tries to pick up his academic act with much difficulty - he simply was not an academically-minded person.

1871 | Orion's OWLs are upon him in his 5th year, and he manages to only scrape by, except in Defence Against the Dark Arts, which over the past year and a half had become his best class, Care of Magical Creatures a close second. While he didn't particularly care about magical creatures, some of them were pretty horrendous and interesting, so he actually paid attention in that class. Though he doesn't do exceedingly well, these two classes are certainly higher than the rest of his grades. He does not practice dark magic, as he has no real knowledge of it, though his parents were involved in that realm slightly, but it certainly is a subject he would like to know more about.

1872 | It is in the summer of this year that Orion's life changes indefinitely. Orion had used the money that his mother and father left him to keep the small and humble house that had in the slums of wizarding London, and had begun frequenting some of the less respectable places. Although he was merely 16, his appearance deceived him and he found that he was very easily granted access to the local dingy pub. On a particularly late night, with the light of the full moon ablaze in the inky night sky as he was leaving the brothel, he stumbled both sleepily and a bit drunkenly into the cemetery near his house, where he was attacked. He had seen the creature briefly before it hurled its grizzly form towards him, and immediately knew it to be a werewolf. Panic setting in, he tried to fight but the creature was massive and way too strong for him. His blood stained the headstone near him as he squirmed and screamed in agony, the monster hardly sparing him any pain - tearing its fangs into his arms, neck and almost every other area it could manage. His screams must have alerted someone in the area, for almost as soon as the beast let him alone, his body was found by an older woman and her husband. Bleeding uncontrollably, his throat hoarse and every muscle and nerve burning with the worst pain he could have never imagined, he was brought to the nearest infirmary to be taken care of. Unfortunately, they found him too late. The infection had already taken root, and his life would never be the same. The next full moon, his first transformation occurred - it was as if his mind wiped clean and he forgot entirely who or where he was, the instinct to hunt taking over. He had no idea what he had done that night, but he woke up naked in the brush surrounding that same cemetery. He stunk of dog, sweat and blood, not a particularly charming combination. While he was absolutely terrified of his new condition, he tried to learn how to live with it by keeping himself as far from civilization as possible, and found some sick poetry within his situation. He had always been a violent, temperamental and aggressive boy; some might have even called him a beast. Hah! If they only knew.

1873 | Orion would have been finishing his 6th year and beginning his 7th this year, had he returned to Hogwarts. Unfortunately, knowing that his condition was unsafe and that he was already doing badly enough in school, this new side of him definitely wouldn't help matters. While he certainly didn't like anyone, he preferred not to accidentally maul people every full moon. Someone might catch on. Thus, he did not return and stayed in London, beginning to look for jobs. His grades while at school had not been particularly great, and his reputation preceded him. The best he could manage was security for the hole-in-the-wall pub near his house, which ended up working just fine for him. He got to see plenty of scantily clad women keen on a lay - he never claimed to be a saint - and could take out his plentiful pent-up aggression on perverted scumbags, should anyone try to pull any stunts. It was not the greatest money, but it was money and that was all that mattered at the time. However, every so often he would be reminded of the position of Hogwarts Groundskeeper. While he was not sure they would let him back after having dropped out, the work was good enough, and it would grant him access to the Forbidden Forest without question on full moons. The idea remained in the back of his mind, waiting to hear if the position was ever vacated. The previous Groundskeeper was an old fart, so he figured it shouldn't be long.

1877 | The Muggles of London discover the wizard population, and once again Orion's life is uprooted at the age of 21 (shortly to be turning 22). The magical folk being ostracized and forced to leave and set up a new village for themselves in Hogsmeade, Orion couldn't help but worry. Luckily, Hogsmeade was established close enough to Hogwarts to allow access to the Forbidden Forest, allowing him an even better retreat for the full moon than he'd had previously in London. He could not afford nice, or even decent living conditions, and was forced to set up house in the slums, although he could not bellyache. He had grown up in the slums of London, why should the slums of Hogsmeade be considered anything less than perfect for him? He once again found work as security for the brothel that was established in the slums called Maison de VÚnus, his previous experience providing an asset.

1878 | The position of Groundskeeper is vacated this year, and Orion immediately applies for the job. While his grades were never all that satisfactory in school, and he'd had quite the reputation among students, there was no doubt that he was a decent fit for the position. He could certainly handle the work, and he was more than strong enough to protect the school, should the need ever arise. His decent grades in Defence Against the Dark Arts and Care of Magical Creatures did help his chances, as well. He was never a particularly honest fellow, so he didn't bother telling Headmaster Black of his condition. He had been living as a werewolf for several years, and could ensure with absolute positivity that so long as he had access to the Forbidden Forest, no harm should come to any students. Therefore, why should he bother concerning people? There must not have been an overwhelming amount of applicants as, much to his surprise, he was offered the position. After all, it was not the job of the Groundskeeper to be proper by any means. It was their job to protect the grounds of the school, watch over the school's keys, do plenty of heavy lifting, and take care of the beasts on the premises. Care of Magical Creatures was not among his better classes until after he was turned, but he was a beast himself, and therefore his natural instincts would prove useful.

1883 | Orion has been the Groundskeeper of Hogwarts since 1878, and is not considering retiring any time soon. His job provides him with housing on the grounds and allows him privacy and the ability to remain anti-social, although he is expected to at least be civil to any students that happen across him - a feat he finds rather difficult at times. Children were bloody annoying. He was usually avoided by students regardless as his large, burly stature, usual scowl and countless scars were quite intimidating. Access to the Forbidden Forest was more than helpful, as he retreated there every full moon, left to wander. He happened upon the Vampire Clan territory once or twice, which resulted in nasty fights that never left him unscathed, but he has not approached that area purposely in quite some time - and would like to keep it that way.

Temperamental. Strong-willed. Callous. Intolerant. Impulsive. Dogmatic. Improper. Courageous (potentially the only reason he was placed in Gryffindor). A real git.
