Did you know? Churchgoers and worshippers had to endure a foul stench during prayers due to the amount of bodies often stored within the vaults of churches and chapels.
Father is quite insisting that all we girlsââ¬âsave Cordy, who has work and an engagement on her sideââ¬âattend Cousin Bennetââ¬â¢s (how strange I feel calling him that; I have only met him a handful of times!) engagement party on Wednesday. True to form, he thinks it best we mingle with The Noteworthies; even if we canââ¬â¢t get a husband out of it, I overheard him saying, at least weââ¬â¢ll be out and about.
Needless to say, I am hardly thrilled. While I do hear that this Miss Browne is taller even than I am, I should find an engagement party quite without mirth regardless. Please say you will come to lessen my burden? I suspect it goes without saying that Father will not be moved on the topic.
I shall have to look into my schedule. There's been a strange influx of spiritual activity in Bath as of late that is requiring a great deal of extra work. It is rather interesting though, the sudden influx. I haven't seen one like this in quite some time.
But.. because you ask and you already sound as though you're miserable enough, I will do my best to be there.
I had hoped that, as the head of your unit, you might be a bit more willing to delegate. At the risk of sounding vain, I should think the life and death of your favourite sister is far more pressing than this ghost or that startling a muggle or two!
I do jest, of course, but I hope you are able to find time to attend. I should feel so dreadfully out of placeââ¬âI lack both Bellaââ¬â¢s grace of conversation and Cressidaââ¬â¢s lack of care of what otherââ¬â¢s think of herââ¬âwithout my big brother there to make sure I do not make a mess of things.
Being the head of my division is perhaps the exact reason why it isn't that easy to just go to a party I'd rather not be at. Like I said, its been very busy with all this added work. It is also very interesting but perhaps I can talk to you all about it in person at the party.
Just.. know that I will not be the life of the party by any means and I am not going to stop you from making a fool of yourself if that's what you chose to do. You do have to make your own path in this life, you know? But, should you fall, I will be there to dust you off and help you back up because what else good are big brothers?
