Kayte did not realize that it was New Years Eve, and thus, not exactly the best time to go calling on old friends. Despite the hustle and bustle that was unusual for the neighborhood, she crossed the street and went several blocks down before arriving at Mrs. Beaumont's. It had been a while (or so she believed, she very well could have been there the day before) since she had called upon her friend, and so thought it high time that she visit again. They had so much to speak of.
Besides, being a widow could be lonely business. Kayte missed her husband dearly. She could sympathize with Cassie.
Upon being let inside and seen to the tea room, she warmly offered Mrs. Beaumont an air kiss upon her cheek (not both, she wasn't french after all), "Mrs. Beaumont, dear, how are you? How is your health? Have you been well?"
