Wooly socks are a favourite item of his and paired with a knitted cardigan, he is set for life.
History:
1814 | Born in the seaside town of Aberystwyth to a lower class family. One of the only four in the area. Culhwch, his father, is a fishmonger to the muggle residents, and his mother, Afanen, serves as a barmaid in a local pub.
1816 | Two years later his younger brother, Hefin, is born and the two lads get on immensely. Dai has fond memories of paddling in the sea and building sand castles under his mother's supervision with him.
1819 | His first magical feat manifests while on a sailing trip aboard his father's boat. He splits an oncoming wave that could've drowned them all, leaving Culhwch enough time to steer them clear of danger.
1820 | Afanen contracts a chill and dies suddenly. Dai and his brother spend most of their time helping their father.
1823 | Joins the family business officially as an apprentice.
1825 | Dai's Hogwarts letter arrives and he is excited but anxious about leaving home and the family business. He is sorted into Hufflepuff and soon makes a small group of friends, though he is bullied terribly by upper class Slytherins. He is surprisingly adept at flying and practical lessons, but struggles in written tests.
1826 | A Slytherin girl in the first year, Gwyneth, catches his eye. Though she doesn't bully him, she ignores him and finds his clowning to be an irritation.
1827 | Hefin arrives at Hogwarts and is sorted into Ravenclaw, starting a separation between the two that would only grow in width. Gwyneth, now a popular child, seems unaware of Dai's existence but Dai doesn't stop his pursuits. The bullying desists when a Slytherin ringleader, Elgan Gwalchmai, befriends Dai. The two begin a lifelong rivalry.
1828 | He tries out for the Hufflepuff quidditch team and serves as keeper. He quickly earns a reputation for humorous displays for every goal he blocked. He is nicknamed "Dead-End Dai" for the formidable wall-like barrier he poses before the enemy players.
1829 | With hard study and natural ability, Dai earns the highest marks in his Transfiguration OWLs - missing out on only one point for handwriting. He earns a scholarship for his excellent grades, keeping in Hogwarts. He begins his practical tutoring into become an animagus. During a inter-house quidditch match against a visiting school, Dai is selected as keeper and accidentally catches the snitch while reaching for an incoming quaffle. He finds Gwyneth in the stalls and drops the snitch in her lap with a wink.
1830 | Dai stumbles across Gwyneth's friends turning on their classmate. Though involuntarily, Dai partially turns into his animagus form for the first time, his legs morphing into a tail, while attempting to defend her. He unfortunately gets stuck and has to flop all the way to his transfiguration professor who assists in the reversal. He would not be able to summon the ability purposefully until five years later.
1831 | Competition from other larger muggle fishing companies makes his father lose business. The loss of financial stability and the absence of his sons at Hogwarts depresses his father who falls ill from grief. In his final year, Dai is offered to try out for three different professional quidditch teams. Patriotically, he intends to audition for the Dowlais Dragons. Gwyneth eventually thanks Dai for his help last year and admits a strange interest in him but explains that nothing more can come from it, the class difference being too much.
1832 | At his father's bedside, Dai promises to rectify the business, squandering his chances of joining the Dowlais Dragons.
1835 | The business is still failing and Dai struggles to keep his promise. From Gwyneth's suggestion, Dai rebrands the fishmongers as a butchery and business steadily improves. He proposes to Gwyneth but refuses to marry her until he can provide for her, something he promises he will be able to one day.
1837 | Dai manages to raise enough funds in his own eyes to be a good husband and they marry.
1840-78 | He and Gwyneth raise a family, who raise families of their own and life is good, for the most part.
1879 | Hefin reveals their magical nature down the local pub and family friends turn against them. The dirty looks soon turn to violence and they must watch their backs.
1880 | Dai is forced to uproot the family to Hogsmeade, thinking it will be a safe haven. He is distraught that he must leave the family home and business. In his rage with his brother, they duel in the shop and the house is demolished in the process. Dai sets up a second branch of the family butchery on High Street and is determined to make a good home.
1885 | 5 years later, Dai has an excellent reputation for providing on the finest cuts of meat and serves all classes.
Personality: Dai's approach is preceded by his booming raucous laughter which is painfully infectious. It is extremely difficult to be in a bad mood around him. He lives by a life ethos of positivity and goodness. He has accepted his lower place in the world and is determined to have a great existence regardless. His favourite sight is to see friends and family gathered around his table, laughing and digging into his cooking. Dai never really dreamed about what job he'd want as a child, family was always the most important thing. He is loving and passionate, the flame between him and his wife just as present as the day they married. Despite his charitable nature, he is also fiercely competitive and dislikes losing. The occasions he doesn't win, he explains away as the result of outward influences like the weather. Though his physique wouldn't suggest it, he is extremely sporting and energetic.

Wand:
Seal | With the best transfiguration marks in his year, Dai was tutored by his professor in between quidditch practice. It was no wonder that his inner animal was a seal. A friend of the sea, Dai spent much of his childhood sailing with his father and became a strong swimmer. His love for food started early and was a large since birth. The fatty deposits of a seal are all too familiar. While in his animal form, his bushy beard remains. Seals are known for their playful nature and Dai is certainly as jovial.
Unicorn Hair | The marble white hair of the unicorn is teaming with healing magic and transfigurative energy. Dai's skill as a great conjurer is only strengthed by this. Though useless in the academics, he is well versed in the practical uses of transfiguration and defensive magic. The purity of this wand allows Dai to summon up a gigantic patronus shield, though it usually manifests as an agile yet rotund seal. It also enables good balance in potion brewing but this isn't a style of sorcery Dai utilises often.Blood Status: Pureblood
Hawthorn | The rare wandwood resulted in the only wand of this combination available in Ollivander's at the time. Associated with the life cycle, both life and death, make it ideal for transfiguration magic. This reflected in Dai's life-giving position as patriarch of the Penllwyd family but also the slaughter of animals he performs as butcher. Strong sense of love and protection.
Supple | Sturdy enough to show strength but flexible enough for intricate metamorphosis, it lies in equal balance.
17 inches | The long wand is particularly elegant giving hint to the precise natural of the glamouring magic that Dai favours. It is also quite threatening when drawn showing the power the man holds.
Social Class: Lower Class
Family:
Gwyneth Penllwyd nee Gwgan, wifeAppearance: A giant among men, Dai is both tall and wide. Easily filling doorways, the 6' 2" man has an ample stomach to match. Perfectly rounded due to perfect food, in his opinion. He has the strength of a rugby player but no visible muscles to show for it. Dai is notably hirsute, and sports impressive back and chest hair as well as a full beard, giving him the appearance of a cuddly bear. His hair is sheer black and dotted with grey hairs, though they are more concentrated in his beard. His leathered and weathered face is in perpetual smile, showing off his yellowing teeth. A fan of prized ales, his breath is not particularly pleasant but he polices it with mint imperials. His umber irises are deep but hardly visible behind his one lazy eye.
