Appearance: When Elijah Belby walks into a room, you would instantly classify him as part of the middle class. Though he doesn't care about what others think about him, he does like to keep a sharp appearance, making sure that he is well trimmed and in fashion. His rather long brown hair tousles down to his shoulder blades, framing his oval face well. His eyes brown, but at a first glance, you would think them rather dark and somewhat mysterious. Elijah takes advantage of his strength and gets in more bar brawls than most do in their lifetime.



As for his attire, Elijah has little money to spend and so prefers to wear simple white blouse and a black coat. Elijah is of a high (but not over the top) height at 6 feet and 1" and he is usually fair skinned but easily tans whenever he goes out to a summer day. Elijah also has a stubble that mostly occurs when he's too immersed in his work to bother about it (which is quite often) or when he thinks it suits him at the moment.

He has never been a particularly tall or heavy man but tends to seem rather bulky though he has a healthy weight and height ratio, his weight being 168lbs. He doesn't have many distinguishing features but would consider his smirk as one, as well as his snide comments to go with it.


History: Elijah Cole Belby was born to the Belby family on October 12, 1861. The Belbys were a pureblood family from the lower class who were in a lot of debt from payments, mostly due to a Mr Belby who enjoyed, perhaps too much, gambling. Nonethless, Elijah was born healthy and at an early age, began showing signs of magic. Though many looked down upon them, they were a typically happy family and didn't care about being part of the lower class, though occasionally, Eli did wonder what it was like to be part of an actual community and live in the grander parts of town instead of the Slums.


Elijah went to Hogwarts, naturally, and was a hard working student but sometimes became lazy and laid back when bored. He was distracted easily in classes and didn't really care about school that much. Well, that was until he came home for the Christmas holidays one evening. He was near the middle of his fifth year at Hogwarts, his studies didn't seem so bad and he was studying for his OWLs. He knew he had to study hard, after all, the debts were not completely payed by his parents yet and he was more than eager to help out. So Elijah decided that after Hogwarts, he would see where life took him and perhaps help out his parents by getting a job. He wasn't particularly good at many subjects but seemed to have a nack in Potions. He was known as the best in his class at the subject and he often found himself staying behind class just to ask the professor to elaborate on a certain part of the lesson and he knew that was a good place to start.

So on the day they came back for the holidays, Elijah found himself in his house, though something did seem off. No one came to greet him and there was a silence that seemed to echo in the small and eerie house of his. He went into the main room and found himself stepping into a pool of red blood, seeping across the floor. There were two bodies on the ground, lying motionless. Both his parents were brutally murdered.


However, even after both his parents were killed by the men that lent them money, the debt wasn't written off and instead handed over to Elijah. He didn't know what to do. He didn't really have anywhere else to go after Hogwarts and though he had a couple of friends there, they weren't close at all. Elijah knew he had to get a job as soon as possible, right after the end of his year at his school. He didn't need to complete his NEWTs as long as he got his OWLs he guessed. Elijah applied to as many jobs as possible that was actually achievable from his OWLs and he hoped that the Apothecary would look past the fact that he didn't have NEWTs and accept him there.


Luckily, he was accepted by the local Apothecary but started down as a helper to do jobs like cleaning and managing different counters of medicine. Nonetheless, Eli worked as hard as he could and soon became an employee instead. He knew that even with this job and its' steady income, he still wouldn't pay off that massive debt. He needed to discover something, perhaps. Anything, a cure or a medicine or something between those lines. Anything at all, to make sure that he could still live.


Personality: On the surface, Elijah would be considered as an arrogant, judgemental and impulsive wizard. He acts before he actually thinks but he he doesn't believe in regrets or looking back at the past. He could be your friend as easily and as quickly as he could hex you.

Though he's incredibly lazy when it comes to chores and work, when he commits to something, he will do everything in his power to get whatever he wants and will never give in, no matter how long it takes. Elijah fears of being powerless and being confined, which is why he is desperate and will do anything, by all means, to get rid of his debt. As he doesn't like confinement, he is well guarded and never lets anyone in. This is one of the reasons he doesn't like anyone getting close to him and as soon as a relationship gets to a point where he would trust someone, Elijah would instinctively bail on them. He sees his only way to power is to avoid those feelings of love and friendship and of all those lovers he has seen (though rare in number), Elijah vowed to never become one of them and to concentrate on his work, thus forming the care-free and snarky persona he is.


Elijah is an extraordinary liar and though he doesn't want to become as low or "scum" (as he says so himself) as the conmen around him, he is not afraid to blackmail or use somebody to get his way. He's very adept at talking himself at getting out of trouble and would hardly hesitate to betray someone out of personal gain. That being said, Elijah can be very loyal once you get close to him- which is not very often. Though many would tell you otherwise, Elijah is indeed a gentleman at heart and will stay true to his word no matter what happens, well, only if he actually made a real deal with someone.

Nevertheless, Elijah holds his head high (perhaps too high for his class) and hides his true feelings very well. He adores to insult people, making him feel inferior to those around him and doesn't let his guard down easily. Though, behind his insults, there is some truth and although he's probably the last person who has the right to insult and judge someone, he spits out insults compulsively and his excuse is that he just can't help himself, which in one way, is completely true.

Sample Roleplay Post: There was something about running towards a solid wall that scared Ben. It was his first time going to Hogwarts and he wasn't really expecting to have to run straight into a brick wall to get there but nonetheless, Ben ran towards it, eyes completely shut and for a moment, he felt an intense rush. He opened his eyes. His parents stood by him, smiling and awaiting the train that was to come. He was going to Hogwarts. Gabrielle placed her hand on his shoulder at an attempt to relax him as his father patted him on his back- a little too hard perhaps.

Ben could feel the ground tremble beneath him as the sound of the rumbling of the train approaching grew louder. Several students advanced towards the train so Benjamin decided to follow them into it. His mother dropped her arm, previously on Ben's shoulder to allow her son to pick up his trunk. He smiled at his parents and his mother kissed his cheek briskly as Benjamin withdrew from Viktor and Gabrielle. He glanced behind him briefly to feebly wave back at his father.


He heaved his trunk onto the train and dragged it along, looking for a space to sit. He looked into several full compartments; one in which his cousin, Victoire, was already sitting in. He reluctantly continued his search and found himself an empty compartment, just for him.
