    Julia Ellesborough

    Full Name: Julia Catherine Ellesborough
    Nicknames: Jules, rarely
    Birthdate: May 15th 1849
    Current Age: Thirty-five
    Occupation: Meddling Spinster
    Hogwarts House: Slytherin
Wand: Cedar, 10”, unyielding, unicorn hair
    Blood Status: Pureblood
    Social Class: Middle
    Family: Charles Ellesborough - Father
    • Julia was always Charles’ favorite child, and though he was often too busy with work to spend much time with his children, she never resented him for it. It’s been said that she mimics his facial expressions.
    Mary Ellesborough - Mother
    • Though Julia was always closer to her father, her mother’s death hit her like a ton of bricks. She has never forgiven Oswin for ‘causing’ it.
    Chester James Ellesborough - Brother
    • James is probably Julia’s favorite person. One of her favorite hobbies is meddling in his life, she runs the Ellesborough household for him, and her current life goal is to get him married so that she can finally have a sister. She also occasionally debates shaving his mustache off when he’s asleep.
    Oswin Clarence Ellesborough - Brother
    • Likewise, Oswin is probably Julia’s least favorite person. Julia has never liked him, and even if she ever got around to forgiving him for causing the death of her mother, she finds his ‘morals’ far too objectionable to play nice.
Appearance: Standing at the fairly unremarkable height of 5’3”, Julia is thin and does not have much in the way of curves. She has big brown eyes and brown hair and a similar mouth to her brother, James. She’s quick to smile - or smirk, depending on who you ask - although she has the tendency to smile with one side of her mouth. She dresses neatly and fashionably, though picks her dresses so as to avoid attention.
History: 1849: Julia is born, the first child of Mary and Charles Ellesborough. She proves to be a demanding child, though once she’s older she’s usually rather sweet.
1853: Julia accidentally turns a dog purple in an attempt to get attention. She is, predictably, very pleased with herself.
1855: James is born. Even if he is a boy, Julia is delighted to be a big sister, and quickly takes to dragging the infant around with her when she can get away with it. When he is six months old she accidentally drops him in the garden. She is still hearing about it.
1857: Julia begins to take an interest in the running of the household when she figures out that it involves throwing dinner parties, and tries to figure it out as best as she can.
1860: Julia goes to Hogwarts, where she is sorted - to no one’s real surprise - into Slytherin. As there is not really a ‘dinner parties club’ - (1970s Julia would have been a Slug Club member) - she joins the art club, instead, and becomes very fond of sketching. She’s quite friendly, but fairly unremarkable where grades are concerned, though she does take well to Herbology.
1862: Julia selects Arithmancy and Divination as her electives. James is admitted into a private school after auditioning for their choir, and though she sometimes pokes fun at him, she is vaguely proud of him.
1864: Oswin is born. Julia, who had been desperately wanting a sister, is NOT thrilled. She almost-ironically takes to calling him Olivia, and continues to to this very day.
1865: Mary dies. Julia blames Oswin. Also, arguably because of the loss of her mother, Julia does not do as well on her OWLs as she would have hoped. She continues with Herbology, Arithmancy, Charms, Potions, and Art.
1866: James comes to Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor.
1867: Julia finishes school. Her father is still too busy mourning to organize a season for her, and Julia - who has never held much interest in marrying - helps her father to re-enter society rather than attempting to find a suitor.
1868: Julia adapts to being a socialite, and still does not have a real season.
1869: Julia’s best friend from Hogwarts marries.
1871: Julia, rather resigned to the idea of being a spinster, stops making even the loosest effort in finding a suitor.
1873: James finishes school and goes to take up an operatic scholarship in Rome.
1875: Julia, admittedly rather bored and a little bit lonely with most of her friends busy spawning, begins to help her father run the Ellesborough household. Oswin goes to school. James works in two prestigious Italian operahouses, and Julia is terribly proud.
1878?: The Ellesboroughs - or rather, the Ellesboroughs minus James - move to Hogsmeade.
1879: Julia adopts a pomeranian which she names Harriet, after the Austen character.
1882: Julia’s father dies. She begins running the household for James and is delighted to do so. Oswin finishes school and goes to study art in Berlin, which, you know, good for him she supposes. As much as she enjoys sketching, she thinks that music is a more legitimate job than art.
1883: Oswin, who gambles - Julia isn’t sure if she’s judging him morally or for losing - is made to move back home so she can keep an eye on him. Every conversation they have tends to end in Julia hitting him with the nearest newspaper. She also makes the executive decision to contact a London opera house on behalf of James - if Oswin is going to come back to Hogsmeade than James better too, damn it! After the Christmas period and his leaving party, James returns home drunk and with a dog. Julia is half-exasperated and half-amused.
1884: Julia finally pulls out the proverbial big guns and gets James to agree to try and get married. He also moves to join her in Hogsmeade! Later that year, James is gossipped about for having sex with a veela on the lake bank, and Julia is not thrilled. She is completely exasperated when their cousin’s eleven year old daughter comes to join them - as maternal as Julia is, she likes to know these things, and she hadn’t even known that Isotta existed!
And now the world might be ending, what with the plague and the fire and all. She’s getting more and more tempted to send someone - the universe, maybe - a strongly worded letter.
Personality: Maternal. Somewhere between ‘meddling’ and ‘overbearing.’ Occasionally scheme-y. Easily exasperated. Very loyal to the people she likes and definitely not someone to cross. Dog person. Cheerful spinster. Socialite.
