Pork and apple is a combination that is always sure to delight! Do not be afraid to experiment, but be careful with your seasonings so that your meal will not be overly sweet. Snitz and Knep
Take of sweet dried apples (dried with the skins on, if you can get them) about one quart. Put them in the bottom of a porcelain or tin-lined boiler with a cover. Take a nice piece of smoked ham washed very clean and lay on top; add enough water to cook them nicely. About twenty minutes before dishing up, add
    the following dumplins:

Snitz and Knep is a hearty, rustic dish best cooked in a large iron vessel.

Mix a cup of warm milk with one egg, a little salt, and a little yeast, and enough flour to make a sponge. When light, work into a loaf. Let stand until about twenty minutes before dinner, then cut off slices or lumps, and lay on the apples and let steam through.

This rustic dish will make a homey and filling meal, and requires no compliments to make a full meal.

Partners in Crime: Meet the Aurors Who Keep Us Safe!
There is nothing more important to a community than its safety, a fact made utterly apparent by the spat of tragedies which have tormented magical society in recent months, but wizarding society is in luck! Watched over by a faithful, committed force of men who have made it their job to keep our streets safe, Witch Weekly readers can rest easily knowing they are in such good hands. They are, of course, our aurors, and two members of this dedicated taskforce have kindly consented to speak with us today; Mr. Charles Macmillan, 24, who married the youngest daughter of the late Mr. Edric Selwyn last year, and Mr. Javert de Montfault, 27, son of Mr. Jean de Montfault, owner of the De Montfault Theatre.

Mr. Charles Macmillan, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Macmillan.

Gentleman, thank you so much for agreeing to speak to our readers! May we start by asking what made you both choose such a path?

CM: To ensure the safety of our people, of course! I knew from a very young age that I would risk my life to ensure the safety of others - becoming an auror seemed a perfectly natural thing to do.

JDM: Every little boy wants to be a knight. I wanted to devote my life ensuring the safety of others.

How very noble you both are! Are you ever afraid? It seems a frightfully dangerous career!

JDM: Fear is your worst enemy. I try not to let it defeat me.

CM: Particularly not when the safety of others is at stake. If Mr. de Montfault and I were afraid, who would remove the criminals from our streets and keep witches and wizards safe in their beds?

Quite true. We feel safer already! But tell us, Mr. Macmillan; does your wife not worry dreadfully for you?

CM: Mrs. Macmillan understands the importance of what I do, and I expect my daughter will too when she is old enough. I expect she will be proud to know her father risks his life for such a worthwhile cause.
Mr. Javert de Montfault, 27, son of Mr. Jean de Montfault.

We are certain young Miss Macmillan will. And Mr. de Montfault - is there perhaps a young woman who might be particularly concerned for your welfare?

JDM: Perhaps. Though I can only hope she thinks of me as often as I think of her.

Oh, how romantic. We do hope a proposal is on the cards!

JDM: Ideally. Mr. de Montfault smiles and shifts his gaze away!

We will contain our torrent of questions! We understand you are both partners - how well do you work together?

JDM: Mr. Macmillan is like a brother to me.

CM: I can think of nobody I trust more. I trust Mr. de Montfault with my life.

Lastly - but terribly importantly, of course - do you have any advice for our readers on keeping themselves safe?

JDM: Don’t get into fights. And do not drink unlabelled potions.

CM: And avoid travelling alone, where possible. Criminals, in my experience, can be quite cowardly and are more likely to be dissuaded from their vile intentions by larger groups.

Advice we shall all endeavour to take! Thank you so much for joining us, gentleman - and good luck, Mr. de Montfault!

    JDM: Thank you.

    CM: It was our pleasure.

Harmony Aidworth is always by your side! More a Richard, Less a Dick
    Dear Miss Aidworth,

Arithmancy was my best subject at school so needless to say that I deeply believe in the theory of numerology. I found some of my closest friends that way, so I fully trust it with my relationships. I am presently courted by a lovely man and I suspect that he will soon propose, but here is where my worries come. His name is Richard and according to numerology the two of us should make an excellent match. You surely now wonder what my problem is. Well, you see, he exclusively goes as Dick and when I did the calculations with his nickname I was shocked to discover that it made us a terrible match! What should I do? Should I take him as a Richard, or as a Dick? His name is Richard, but he is a Dick, so you see why I am conflicted.

    Please help,
    Miss Algebra

Arithmancy. A useful branch of magic if used correctly!

    Miss Algebra,

Do not fret! You are going to be a great match, as your first calculation says! He might think himself a Dick, but he is actually a Richard and there is no way for him to escape that. It is your responsibility to take that silly, childish nickname away from him and make him use his proper name! The numbers are obviously warning you that he still has a childishness in him, but you my dear will turn him into a man! He is your true love, but it is your responsibility he’s more a Richard and less a Dick.

    Sincerely,
    Harmony Aidworth
