Ruth is a bit taller for the average Victorian woman. Standing at 5 ft. 4 in. She is taller than her two younger sisters as well as her mother. While she supports a slim figure, she is rather toned and stronger than she looks, in addition to walking with a sturdy stride, much to their mother's chagrin. Her brown hair can be rather wild if it gets too tangled in the wind so she tends to keep it up in a simple style. More often than not a few strands will fall down into her blue eyes when she's working vigorously. Rue's angled features provide for a rather severe stare when she's concentrating too hard, but - when supplied with perhaps a corny joke or a chocolate frog - a smile is always sure to follow along with a laugh. She has a medium complexion and is right handed.History:
Originally from Boston, Massachusetts the Adlers were known as a respectful lower class muggle family. Charles, a police constable and the patriarch of the family, is a stern looking man with an even more severe moustache to add, moving from the United Kingdom to the States in hopes of finding better prospects. Despite this, his personality is quite eccentric. His wife, Florence is a fretting woman with an expression as if she'd forgotten something and was trying to remember what it was. The family originally started out as middle class, though before their oldest, Lincoln was born, Charles decided to invest in a friend's business idea which - unfortunately for them - tanked, leaving the family to be financially docked down to lower class. They have since been able to stabilize their financial situation, though have not quite been able to recover from it.Personality:
Born the second eldest of 4 children, Ruth was named after her grandmother, Tallulah Sage Rothschild. With her mother being a bit of an eccentric one, Ruth put up with being called Tallulah for the better part of her infancy. At age 7, she put her foot down and petulantly demanded to be called Ruth instead. Despite respecting their daughter's wishes, the Adlers still call her Tallulah when she is in deep trouble. It was also always Lincoln that kept calling her Tallulah to bug her. Ruth would always search for a way to taunt her brother in return about his name, but Lincoln was absolutely enamored with the words of his namesake, Abraham Lincoln, that Ruth's insults fell quite short during their childhood.
Growing up, Ruth was an incredibly intelligent child and extremely curious about everything. She adored playing with her younger sisters, Mary and Beatrice at home. Sometimes she would demand to go with their mother to bring their father lunch so she could wander about his office and pretend to be a police officer. Always encouraging of his daughter's dreams, Charles didn't have the heart to tell his daughter it'd be extremely difficult for such a feat to happen.
Ruth's magic was the first to crop up amongst her siblings, despite Lincoln being the eldest. Lincoln never ended up showing any magic, which surprisingly did not bother him, as much as magical powers appealed to him. From a young age, it was Lincoln's most ardent ambition to become a politician in the "normal" world, and he was hell bent on seeing it through to the end. Her magic first showed itself when she was chasing after Lincoln. She'd chased him up a tree and he'd evidently climbed way too high. Though they always had a rough sibling rivalry, the two were far from hating each other. So when Lincoln slipped and fell from a good two stories up, Ruth screamed and shut her eyes, not wanting to see her brother die in front of her. It wasn't until she heard his laugh of surprise that she opened her eyes again and saw Lincoln floating serenly down towards her. That's when the chaos in their house started.
It was always chaos in the Adler household, mostly because their father's office was in a surprising state of disarray and they had a startling number of pets to take care of. However, when Ruth's magic appeared, things started getting even more chaotic. Suddenly she was having so much fun, and books in her father's study were flying every which way. And when her younger sisters' magic appeared, it threw the house even more out of whack, even when an official from the magic school nearest to them showed up and explained to them what was happening.
The family took it in strides, with Florence involving herself even more in the girl's curriculum. Charles even went as far to make the girls promise they would always carry revolvers and derringers with them in case their magic 'faded out'; he wasn't that knowledgeable about magic and didn't attempt to understand it either. Even when he was made aware that the revolvers probably wouldn't work around magic or even against magic, Charles insisted it, and even taught the girls how to clean the weapons too. All the girls made sure to make a show of putting the weapons in their trunks at school but conveniently "forgot" the ammunition at home.
When the girls went off to school, the house was eerily silent, for it was Ruth and Lincoln who had made the most noise in the family. Lincoln missed his sister dearly and found it rather amusing that they received letters via owl while his siblings were away. Tragedy struck in Ruth's 3rd year, though. Florence caught tuberculosis and had quickly perished. The girls were allowed to go home for the funeral, which allowed the family a brief recovery period. Though they had to go back to school too soon, the sisters kept up correspondence with their older brother. Summers were the girls' favorite part of the year because they were all together as a family. Their happiness quickly ended when the girls received news that their father had died from a gunshot wound received whilst on duty.
This was during Ruth's 5th year. She'd decided that she would become a hit-wizard. She worked hard for the last few years of school and was soon invited by their aunt and uncle to come stay in the United Kingdom. In time, it was revealed that their mother's sister had unknowingly married a wizard. This fact was kept from Ruth's family for the same reasons they kept it from their mother's side of the family. The only reason they had been found out was because of some research their uncle had done at the British Ministry of Magic out of curiosity. Thinking she could possibly get more of a chance overseas, Ruth – sponsored by her aunt and uncle – made her way to York, England. Unfortunately throughout this time, the pets of the Adler family were slowly dwindling. They were soon left with Louisa, a rather large Maine coon cat, Thénardier, a rather mischievous but shy fox, and two small pet tortoises, Bonnie and Clyde, who had a tendency to be so sleepy at times that they could function as paperweights when need be. These were the pets that Ruth insisted on bringing with her to England.
With a reference from her uncle and the proper grades, Ruth made it into the hit-wizard trainee program when she was 18. When she was 20, she graduated from the program. During this time, her 2nd youngest sister Beatrice graduated from school and was ready to make her way to England as well. Ruth soon saw that it was time for a place of their own - with the salaries of at least two of the three girls and the allowance coming in from their brother, they would be able to afford a comfortable living.
Ruth found them a comfortable but cheap flat located across from Mrs Ferrars, a nosy but well-meaning widow. Soon she would come to regret finding a flat with her sisters. While perfectly respectable and quiet, Beatrice and Margie often clashed. Margie's propensity to speak in foreign tongues to herself often grated on Beatrice's nerves - likewise, Beatrice's habit of being rather out of touch with her feelings grated on Margie's nerves. Growing up with the two, Ruth has gotten quite good at mediating arguments and diffusing tension.
Rational, logical, level headed. Enjoys cooking tremendously and often tests out new cooking recipes on her sisters. Often the mediator between the two.Sample Roleplay Post: [At least a paragraph.]
